63 ex-Catholic Priests in Washingon: We Back Gay Marriage
Seattle Post-Intelligencer ^ | 10/8/12 | Joel Connolly

Sixty-three former Roman Catholic priests in Washington state will announce on Thursday that they support Referendum 74, which would make Washington the nation’s seventh state to legalize marriage between same-sex couples.

The stand comes as the state’s four Catholic bishops intensify a campaign of pastoral statements and videos urging parishoners to vote against marriage equality.

In the latest pastoral letter, Bishop Joseph J. Tyson of the Diocese of Yakima told his 41 parishes that Referendum 74 “jeopardizes freedom rather than expands it” and “endangers our religious liberty and the rights of conscience.”

“Once marriage is redefined as a genderless contract, it will become legally discriminatory for public and private institutions such as schools to promote the unique meaning of marriage . . .This law will challenge our right to educate about the unique value of children being raised by his or her own mother and father in a stable home,” Tyson wrote.

The 63 former priests, with collectively more than 800 years of service to the Church, beg to differ.

“We are uneasy with the aggressive efforts of Catholic bishops to oppose R-74 and want to support the 71 percent of Catholics (Public Religion Research Institute) who support civil marriage for gays as a valid Catholic position,” they said in a statement.

Former priest Pat Callahan, who organized the statement, added: “This is the first public action we’ve taken.” Callahan was in the Catholic priesthood for 15 years.

Washington, Maryland and Maine will vote on marriage equality this November. Minnesota is voting on a constitutional amendment that would enshrine marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman.

The ex-priests in Washington are taking a lesson from the playbook of their counterparts in Minnesota.

Minneapolis-St. Paul Archbishop John Nienstedt has warned any active priests opposing the gay marriage ban to.......

It appears that being an "ex-Catholic priest" is some sort of badge of honor in Washington.

Headline should be: 63 sexually confused Ex Priests gather in Washington to explore their identities.

Gee. I wonder why they are EX priests.

I bet it’s not nearly as fun being a homosexual priest now as it was 20 years ago.

A male trying to mate with another male’s anal canal is insane. A female attempting to mate with another female using a rubber appliance is insane. It’s like having Aunt Rosie sitting at your table trying to eat by sticking a turkey baster in her ear and telling you that’s her lifestyle. It may be, but it’s still insane behavior.

“Ex-catholic priests” equals “no longer recognized by the Church” so why would their opinions matter anyway?

They no longer can speak for or represent the Catholic Church, so their opinions and actions are theirs alone.

The only reason the media is paying any attention to them is because it complies with the media’s agenda to push homosexual marriage as the new norm. If they were ex-Catholic priests united with the Church on its position re: homosexual marriage then it wouldn’t even be in the news.

Even if the far left fringe forces us to provide governmental recognition of gay “marriage”, that will not change the reality that any real marriage is between a man and a woman.

This isn’t about two old homosexuals sitting by the fire reading Newsweek magazine. This is an attempt to make society say that it’s OK for a man to stick his penis into the anal canal of another male. Sorry, that kind of behavior is insane.

notice the leftist don’t say “gay marriage” or “same sex marriage”

no they use the stealth propaganda phrase “marriage equality”

equality implying an equilibrium.

Why are they “ex-Catholic priests”? Why are they no longer priests? Were they involved in homosexual activity?

Someone should run a background check on these ex-priests. There's probably at least a couple pedophiles in the group.

Given their flagrant denial of Catholic teaching, I’m glad they’re ex-priests.

I believe God could not have made it clearer:

Leviticus 20:13

King James Version (KJV)

13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

From:
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus+20%3A13&version=KJV

I know liberals who have actually read the Bible say these are Moses’s words but this is the part in the Bible where things are really intricate. Did Moses have the architectural and engineering ability to design and write about the precise instructions for the Tabernacle and the Ark?

I’m sure that since Moses was brought up as Egyptian nobility, which included an education, they will say it is possible but anyone reading the Pentateuch would realize Moses would have to have a modern PhD in Engineering and Architecture among other things to design what God designed.

Maybe we should ask Moses if the plane impact and fire could have brought down the WTC?

The vast majority of former priests who are not currently under state supervision were the thousands of priests who requested laicization to get married in the 1970s.

They voluntarily left the priesthood assuming they would be invited back - but the election of John Paul II ruined that dream for them.

Embittered, they formed their own associations and created a cottage industry based on selling their "priestly" services to divorced and former Catholics for weddings and funerals.

They can always be relied upon to make contrarian statements regarding the Church.

Their average age is about 70 now, so in a few years their grand experiment will be over.

What next, a story on how 63 disgruntled workers hate their former bosses and know how to run the company better?

And this story passes for news...
