"900-year-old Catholic prophecy says successor will be 'Peter the Roman'"
Although a Roman Catholic pope had not stepped down in nearly 600 years, the startling resignation of Pope Benedict XVI was predicted by the co-authors of a book published last spring about a medieval prophecy that the next pontiff will be the last.
In Petrus Romanus: The Final Pope is Here, co-authors Tom Horn and Cris Putnam examine St. Malachys Prophecy of the Popes, said to be based on his prophetic vision of the next 112 popes, beginning with Pope Celestine II, who died in 1144. Malachy presented a description of each pope, culminating with the final pope, Peter the Roman, whose reign would end with the destruction of Rome and judgment.
Horn explained to WND in an interview today that his conclusion Benedict would resign rather than die in the papacy was based not only on St. Malachy but also on a host of historical and current information.
We took The Prophecy of the Popes, we took what was happening in Italian media, and we determined, based on a great deal of information, that Pope Benedict would likely step down, citing health reasons, in 2012 or 2013, he said.
St. Malachy was an Irish saint and the archbishop of Armagh, who lived from 1094 to 1l48. Malacy described the penultimate pope, which Horn believes is Benedict, as Gloria Olivae, or Glory of the Olive.
Pope Benedict XVI was not a Benedictine priest, yet he chose the name of Benedict, the founder of the ........

Ping for later.
I recall Pope Benedict XVI being called the “last Pope” too.
A lot of people last year suggested he might resign - including Pope Benedict’s brother.
After spending some time with Malachys Prophecy, I concluded it was like Nostradamus: quite weak in some key areas, very sparse and broad, applicable to a number of readings, capable of back-reading once you knew the result.
The authors seem to be setting up a fall-back position if the next pope does not choose the name Peter:
“In any case, Horn noted, Catholics believe the pope inhabits the Petrine office as a successor of the apostle Peter.”
So, whatever the name he chooses the “Peter” prophecy will be confirmed.
It easy to take the next logical step and say: “Well, he will be the bishop of Rome, oíla! “Peter the Roman” is a done deal.
Cardinal Turkson the frontrunner at this time is Peter Cardinal Turkson. Interesting..
Makes sense actually. The second to last Pope would try to uphold tradition but be forced out by a growing progressive majority who will then put the final Pope in place to reform the church and make it younger and more hip.
Prediction: the next Pope will not be named Peter and will not be Roman, but his actions will confirm he is Peter Romanus
Here is another interesting prophecy while we are on that topic:
Saint Hildegard (12th Century)
The time is coming when princes and peoples will reject the authority of the Pope. Some countries will prefer their own Church rulers to the Pope. The German Empire will be divided.
***Before the comet comes (big one expected this year), many nations, the good excepted, will be scourged by want and famine. The great nation in the ocean that is inhabited by people of different tribes and descent will be devastated by earthquake, storm, and tidal wave. It will be divided and, in great part, submerged. That nation will also have many misfortunes at sea and lose its colonies.***
[After the] great Comet, the great nation will be devastated by earthquakes, storms, and great waves of water, causing much want and plagues. The ocean will also flood many other countries, so that all coastal cities will live in fear, with many destroyed.
All sea coast cities will be fearful, and many of them will be destroyed by tidal waves, and most living creatures will be killed, and even those who escape will die from a horrible disease. For in none of those cities does a person live according to the Laws of God.
A powerful wind will rise in the North, carrying heavy fog and the densest dust, and it will fill their throats and eyes so that they will cease their butchery and be stricken with a great fear.
This book will be found in the Library under the FICTION section.
Funny. This whole thing is based on a prophecy the Catholic church considers a hoax and is really only accepted my mystic types.
No Pope has taken the name Peter since that fisherman guy 2000 years ago. No Italians are anywhere on the leading list of candidates being rated by the bookies.
Hence “Peter of Rome” is a very, very long shot IMO.
Some prophecies can be self fulfilling.
Didn’t take long for the PhonyCon Liberals to trash WND, I see.....
DU must be down again. And their hero was born in Kenya
Yes, but, Ratzinger chose the name Benedict. The Benedictines or the Olivetans as they are also known brings him in line with the prophecy. He knowingly assumed a name that comported with the second to last Pope of the prophecy. I find that interesting. We will know soon enough if it is an actual Peter, a roman or someone who just happens to pick a name that lines up. Interesting times to be sure.
Every single time there is a new Pope, some meatball out there says that it’s a prophecy that they are the last one, or at least the next to last one. Gotta hedge your bets.
In a year holding a three, or seven,
or five, or nine, or maybe not,
Two things, might be people, or armies, or buildings,
Or anything really, blades of grass,
or stoats, or crapulous charlatans spouting mimsy,
Might do something nebulous.
Insert made-up-bit here.

“No Pope has taken the name Peter EVER.”
Fixed it for you. :)
I think the next pope will be called Ringo I
I believe we are in the end times and this next pope will be the last one. I hadn’t heard about this prophecy and don’t care about it. I haven’t said until now that a certain pope would be the last one.
