THE IDEA OF A POPE IS BASED ON A FALSE INTERPRETATION OF SCRIPTURE, THAT JESUS WANTED TO BUILD HIS CHURCH ON PETER, INSTEAD OF HIMSELF. WHY WOULD JESUS BUILD HIS CHURCH ON A SINFUL MAN?

I prefer to see Roman Catholics as being on the same team as I am, struggling in their way to promote Jesus Christ.

Bravo...wish more of us (Catholic and Protestant) saw things your way.

There is a clear difference between praying for someone who is alive, and praying to someone who died, so they can petition God for me or others.

Deuteronomy 18:11 - Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

For me that is clear enough.

Once you believe in the afterlife, which we all do, I don’t think sending a prayer request to a departed Saint, or anyone, is that hard to understand. Plus if one believes Saints were allowed to perform miracles on Earth. Perhaps this became excessive worship at times but no one ever mistook a Saint for God.

Only if you believe Catholics ignore the 1st Commandment.

When you ask your neighbor to pray for you, is that person acting as a mediator? No. He is merely offering his prayer as well. So why not ask your neighbors in Heaven to pray for you? Why not ask His mother? The people at the wedding feast at Cana did, and look what happened! (John 2:1-11)

Perhaps you need to recognize that the English word “pray,” has multiple meanings. If you believe that all prayer is identical, then you are constraining the definition.

Pray, as in worship due only to God, is one thing. Pray, as to petition others on our behalf, is something totally different.

Finally, are the souls in Heaven “dead?” Assuming you go to Heaven, will you be dead? NO! You will be praising God ceaselessly! As a member of the Body of Christ, you will also be petitioning Him for the souls of your brethren on Earth.

Garbanza....THANK YOU!! You are the FIRST non-Catholic on this site that has ever admitted to knowing about prayers for intercession. You are to be admired.

Do you really think the current Catholic group is anything like the Catholic group (catholic as in universal) of 2,000 years ago?
I mean really when was the first pope elected?
Mary is sinless?
So you don’t go with that she and Joseph had other children, I guess.

So then I can argue how was Mary born sinless inside a sinful body? I always saw it as Jesus was man, but not of Mary or Joseph. He was created as Adam was pure and sinless, but unlike Adam he was also God.

I’m disappointed in this news. I never knew he was so anti-Catholic. I’m still not sure this isnt some hoax of some sort. If it’s not, I guess it’s a good life lesson to not assume too much, good or bad, about anyone.

No, because in the book of Numbers we are told how God will choose the leadership of the church.

This man made fakery is just offensive to me. If people want to worship it, I guess that is their choice.. it is just sad, because it isn’t about God.

If God wants there to be a Pope, sure enough everyone, who knows God, is going to know who the person is.

God raises up his children. Man does not rise up God’s children.

But- we have to read the word of God to really understand.

Without the Catholic Church and her traditions you would not have a canon of scripture.

Yeah, I see you've been watching that Catholic comercial aring during 'The Bible' claiming the Catholic church is the reason why there is a Bible.

That is a lie that has been around for years. It ranks right up there with another lie that the Catholic church is the one only true church.

Religous bigotry. Pure and simple.

What is wrong with asking Mary to pray to Jesus too?

When Jesus taught us to pray, He didn't say "Our Father And Saints". He simply said "Our Father". There's a reason for that.

Prayer to God, and God alone, is sufficient. Timothy 2:1 is quite right - praying FOR others is very useful and we are commanded to do so. Praying TO others who are not God is not necessary.

“Christ was not fully man...He is God as man. He is Divine.
He is more than just man.”

Yes he was fully man. He was just a much flesh a blood as are you and I. God’s word says he was just like me and you in every way. He was fully man as well as fully God. To deny that Jesus was a man is to deny Jesus’ suffering.

Heb. 2:17&18: “17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Heb. 4:14-16 “14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Knowing the Bible, I have to admit that this watching of the smoke looks silly to me. I have lost a lot of what little respect I had, for the Catholic religion, over this.

We Catholics are members of an historical, traditional religion. In our current age where the election of a new pope can be tweeted instantly around the world, the tradition of the white and black smoke might seem silly to you. But historically, smoke signals provided a good way for the citizens of Rome to know what was up. News could spread out from the central hub of Rome and interested folks could gather in St. Peter's to await the new Pope. The smoke is not a matter of doctrine. The Cardinals don't have to do it. But it's a neat tip of the hat to previous generations.

If you think the smoke is silly, don't look at it. I personally think covered dish suppers are silly, but I haven't lost respect for Protestants because of them.

Yeah- I guess so. Ceremony can be beautiful. BUT when men create a ceremony and assign it to God, when God did not create it.. the ceremony becomes offensive.

That is the lesson of the Bible.

They can have their organization, sure- and all the ceremony they want-but it isn’t about God.

The Catholics I know are making jokes about this- and talking about drinking games..

I think that in this smokey thing, it is sad- that there is no reference, reverence or love for our Lord, Jesus the Christ- who died for us.

In Exodus the children of God followed the Holy Spirit, a pillar of smoke- so this idea of man made smoke , to communicate a man made decision, is blasphemous to me.

So, what you are saying is that there is as much spritual significance and relevance in a covered dish supper as there is in selecting a new pope.

As a Christian - I totally agree with you.

Would a “tweet” make you feel better?

How would you feel hundreds of years from now to when communicate the election results traditional “tweets” were used instead of some new technology?

You’re complaining about silly things. Smoke is the traditional method. Big deal. Get over it.

It’s “blasphemous” to use smoke signals to covey information?

Ponderous man, just ponderous....< shakes his head in disbelief > ...and here I thought I’d heard it all when it comes to criticism of the Catholic Church.
