Posted on 04/04/2013 6:39:18 AM PDT by marshmallow
Two gay seniors at George Washington University say they feel alienated because the chaplain at George Washingtons Newman Center rejects homosexuality, and they arent going to take it anymore.
The seniors, Damian Legacy and Blake Bergen, have announced a coordinated campaign to rid the campus of the Roman Catholic priest, reports The GW Hatchet, the schools independent student newspaper.
They also assert that 12 or more students have quit the Newman Center in recent years because they cant tolerate Father Greg Shaffers ardent anti-gay and, for the record, anti-abortion beliefs.
Shaffer has worked for five years at George Washingtons Newman Center. He told the Hatchet that religion and unrestricted speech play a vital role at a diverse university like GW.
Legacy and Bergen say they are primarily upset about the counseling Shaffer offers. They say he urges students who have homosexual feelings to lead a life of celibacy.
Catholic Church doctrine maintains that homosexual desire isnt a sin, but acting on that desire is, according to the website Catholic.com.

Maybe the queers should quit for being so intolerant?????
How very tolerant and open-minded of them.
Aww... because “they feel alienated.” “Alienated” by WHAT???? Is the priest walking around shouting that they’re going to hell?
This is all going too far. Sooner or later....something is gonna happen...either we all just “give up and in” like Portman—or someone says—and MEANS—that is ENOUGH!! WE ARE taking our country BACK!!
We’re losing . . . every day . . . incrementally and sometimes in giant steps . . . but we’re losing.
I don’t see a single thing going our way. As far as I can see, the only thing fighting for us is the NRA . . . just about all the republicans have caved in dramatically in almost every singe thing we’ve been fighting for.
It’s a shame that the NRA is the only organization besides the remnants of the TEA Party that are hanging on to what’s left of our Constitution.
Agreed. Without the NRA there would be no one left..
The tide is about to turn on them, big time.
They are on the wrong side of history, they just haven't figured it out yet.
This nimrod says he wanted to become a priest . . . but then he gets involved in an active homosexual relationship. Then he gets all in a tizzy because the chaplain says that is Wrong.
But - at the same time - the Liberals spend their time blaming the Church for child abuse, when that abuse was overwhelmingly (85%+) perpetrated against pubescent boys. I.e. homosexual "chicken-hawking". The Church has taken action and cleaned out a lot of these guys (who never should have been there in the first place, but some American bishops were infected with the Spirit of the Age in the 1960s and 70s - but that's another long story).
So . . . the Church is trying to get the homosexuals out and keep them out, to avoid homosexual molestation of teenage boys, but the liberals are condemning them for picking on the homosexuals.
And they're doing the exact same thing to the Boy Scouts.
By sticking their fingers in their ears and claiming the molestation of boys has nothing . . . no! absolutely nothing! . . . to do with homosexuality, they are managing to keep two entirely inconsistent ideas in their heads at once.
These people are nuts. Also evil.
“because they cant tolerate Father Greg Shaffers ardent anti-gay and, for the record, anti-abortion beliefs.” <p. Further proof that, for the left, “tolerance” is a one way street. And their solution to the “alienation” they claim to feel is to alienate the Father from the entire campus.
Perhaps we should make such Christians identify themselves with an emblem. I suggest cross with male and female figures holding hands - a yellow pin, badge or patch. Then we can identify them as we approach them in the streets and walk to the other side. We should teach them a lesson some evening in early November - break the windows of the Newman Center and similar buildings with bricks and hammers and such. Then maybe if they still insist on their views we can load them on trains and move them to central locations out of our proximity.
We thought that diversity was about being tolerant, multi-cultural. But it was an innocent mistake. Diversity meant to be diverse from morality in society. It simply is another name for evil.
Now, why would gays worry about getting pregnant?
Is this so?
How does that square with the Bible's various scripture admonishing "lustful desires," "carnal desires," "lusting after another man's wife committing adultery in one's heart," etc.?
I ask those of you that are versed in Catholic doctrine if in fact this is so, or is it merely journalism malpractice by reporting fantasy as fact?
“Cardinal Newman” Society PROMOTES CATHOLIC DOCTRINE. Join another “club” if you don’t like the one your in.
The homofascists never rest.
(... But not for those who hold dissimilar beliefs...)
Good summary. Have a Guinness!
Catholic teaching is clearly stated in the Catechism:
CCC 2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
CCC 2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
CCC 2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
I occasionally spend a moment puzzling about why homosexual men are so into abortion.
Catholic doctrine maintains that homosexual orientation per se, is not sinful but disordered. Homosexual acts are acts of "great depravity" and the lust or desire to commit such acts would also be sinful.
As I suspected, it is the act and the lust for the act that is considered sin, not merely the lack of desire toward the opposite sex.
Those kinds of persons have always existed, they lack strong sexual desire, certainly for the opposite sex.
They were always the unmarried uncle or aunt in the family.
Sometimes they were referred to as the spinster auntie or the perennial bachelor uncle.
Many times we looked forward to their visits for they oftentimes brought gifs for the kiddies as they weren't spending their money on their own families!
Now, however, society pushes them toward same sex affiliations as society cannot imagine life without sex!
Why don’t these two students leave instead?
Love the sinner; hate the sin.

The chaplain needs prayer. The GW University is a private, secular university, so they will have all the political correctness such a place could muster.
Lord Jesus, we pray that Father Shaeffer receive divine protection in his mission of speaking truth. In Your Holy Name we pray, Amen.
And an echoing Amen!
“We thought that diversity was about being tolerant, multi-cultural. But it was an innocent mistake. Diversity meant to be diverse from morality in society. It simply is another name for evil.”
Diversity is where nations go to die.
“I occasionally spend a moment puzzling about why homosexual men are so into abortion.”
Baby-killing and sodomy are Satan’s sacraments.
I think the students' obsession with anus worship has hampered their cognitive abilities leading them to confuse the term 'celibate' with the term 'chaste'.
Besides, everyone knows you can not marry an anus.
An "act" can be a thought (interior act) or word or deed (exterior act.) Any homosexual act, interior or exterior, is a sin.
Related, but morally disinguishable from this, is a homosexual "orientaion," a response pattern which is not willed. For some people, this produces more-or-less persistent temptations which are not willful, i.e. tempting thoughts or feelings which you are determined to resist and overcome.
So, as Jesus said, if you look at somebody to intentionaly excite you own lust, you have committed adultery with them in your heart: this is a sin.
But if you have involuntary feeling which you are resisting that is a temptation, not a sin. Holy Scripture says that Jesus was tempted in every way that we are, but without sinning.
I wonder why this GWU senior would go to a priest for counseling, knowing that the priest would try to help him resist temptation an win a victory over the unwelcome tendencies related to his orientation. Was the student genuinely surprisd that a priest would encourage him to gain self-mastery by the grace of God to remain free of sin?
That's about what I'd concluded.
Uhhh...What did you want him to say? Did you want him to give you a round of applause? Buy you flowers? Throw a party? Marry you on the spot?
It's not like he was merely picking on homosexuals. He would say that if you were engaging in ANY sin, be that sin premarital sex, procuring an abortion, adultery, stealing, doing drugs, being an alcoholic, etc. The job of a priest is to guide people to Christ and discourage people from sinning because sin separates people from Christ.
He's mad because the priest didn't toss out Catholic and Biblical teachings and praise his decision. A priest isn't going to do that. If he wants that, find any gay pride group, and they'll celebrate his relationship with open arms.
To have my faith leader view me that way, just because of one piece of the way that God made me, and to think that one part is responsible for the destruction of my human dignity, it just didnt I cant even begin to describe the mental conflict that it creates, Legacy told the Hatchet.
I think the priest is obviously aggravating his conscience because he can't just disregard what he said and walk away, he has to remove the priest completely.
How long before we become like Sweden and part of the Bible and Church teachings become hate speech? We'll be like China where we have a "Patriotic Catholic Church" who has to tow the party line.
Very good points. There have probably always been many people who really weren't interested in getting involved, so to speak, not only sexually but emotionally. They often enjoyed the company of their brothers and sisters and their families, but either had other interests or just simply personalities that weren't going to be comfortable in that life.
And now in our sex-obsessed society, they've all been forced to announce that this means that they're "gay." Look at all the effort modern literary "scholars" put into trying to prove that one or another early writer who never married but had friends was either actively homosexual or secretly lusting for his friends. Said writer would have been shocked and disgusted, but now, since sex is all, this is unthinkable to the modern mind.
The spurious claims go unanswered, even repeated with each gay defender adding more "facts" of their own until many "low information" people actually believe the lie and argue the pro-gay case!
Almighty God, please supply this Campus Ministry chaplain with the clarity and courage to defend Holy Marriage as established by Divine and Natural Law, and to minister to those who are struggling in the grips of a corrupt and degenerate culture. Increase his faith in the wisdom of Your designs; animate his Bishop to confirm him in the Truth. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Salvation: who's his bishop? would it be--- Wuerl? :o(
Redouble the prayers!
They could just quit the Catholic Church and go Episcopalian. The ECUSA celebrates homosexuals, having elevated to bishop at least one openly gay man who left his wife and children to be with his male partner. The ECUSA even seized property of parishes that didn’t want to go along with gay pride. It’s perfect for Legacy and Bergen.
There is no evidence she was a lesbian, but now all the university literati (with the morals of papparazzi) are combing through her papers trying to find out if she got down with her life-long female friends.
It is truly disgusting, especially since Cather was intensely private by nature, and a classicist by training and temperament. There is nothing she would like less than ginned-up gossip that she had passionate affairs with women --- for which there is (still) no evidence, but the Queer Theorists keep on dredging along.
It's like trying to make a Sapphist out of Emily Dickenson.
Should have destroyed her correspondence instead of leaving it for posterity.
I've read most of Willa Cather's novels, after refusing to read "My Antonia" in high school. Good stuff.
I’m told she burned boxes of private papers, so I really don’t understand what the deal is with the literary executors. Maybe they traced down the people she wrote to, and got the letters from them???? Claiming they had rights to them, because they were written by Cather? I don’t know.
I liked The Song of the Lark. I like the simple language, and the fact that (somehow) it can have srong emotions and at the same time be bracingly unsentimental. Takes a great writer to do that.
That's a good description.
Being from the Midwest, I like the stories set in Nebraska.
earth to gays...........Catholics consider homosexuality a sin, you can’t change that with your bigotry
catholic doctrine says sexual intercourse is for married people. Marriage is between a man and woman. That is all.
I'm puzzled by the same thing vis a vis abortion and lesbians. It's not like they are going to need them.
In other words they’re upset that a Roman Catholic priest actually agrees with the official teaching on the church he was ordained in and I assume took vows saying he would uphold?
It would be like someone being mad at the president of the League of Women Voters for supporting female suffrage.
