Baptists Plan Exodus from Boy Scouts
CNN ^ | 5/31/13 | Daniel Burke

(CNN) – For Southern Baptist pastor Tim Reed, it was Scripture versus the Scouts.

“God’s word explicitly says homosexuality is a choice, a sin,” said Reed, pastor of First Baptist Church of Gravel Ridge in Jacksonville, Arkansas.

So when the Boy Scouts of America voted to lift its ban on openly gay youths on May 24, Reed said the church had no choice but to cut its charter with Troop 542.

“It’s not a hate thing here,” Reed told CNN affiliate Fox 16. “It’s a moral stance we must take as a Southern Baptist church.”

Southern Baptist leaders say Reed is not alone.

Baptist churches sponsor nearly 4,000 Scout units representing more than 100,000 youths, according to the Boy Scouts of America.

That number could drop precipitously.

The Southern Baptist Convention, the country’s largest Protestant denomination, will soon urge its 45,000 congregations and 16 million members to cut ties with the Scouts, according to church leaders.

The denomination will vote on nonbinding but influential resolutions during a convention June 11-12 in Houston.

“There’s a 100% chance that there will be a resolution about disaffiliation at the convention,” said Richard Land, the longtime head of the Southern Baptists’ Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, “and a 100% chance that 99% of people will vote for it.”

“Southern Baptists are going to be leaving the Boy Scouts en masse,” Land continued.

And if you don't quit, you piss off God and they win anyway. And for extra points, they get to rape your children on camping trips.

Somehow, I suspect that Homosexuals were not attracted to the Boy Scouts because of the Scout law of being Morally Straight, or to be Reverent. And if they were not attracted to the Scouts because of what the scouts are in spirit, then the only attraction is what the Boy Scouts are in the flesh.

Little boys.

Kinda obvious.

I understand your statement, and I do agree with you that the evil people in this world want to burn society to the ground. And they will succeed, for to fight them on their own ground makes you just as evil. This is the very reason Hell was created by God. You don't have to fight them, and you don't have to join them. That battle is God's. You just fight your own evil inclination, that is the battle you can win.

The Tribulation is man made. The Utopia of Sin that they wish to create, is the very hell on earth that they will have to live in. Right before the "Great Tribulation" which is not man made, is God's wrath, and Hell, the Utopia they deserve.

You ever wonder how God was going to solve the "Evil, can't live with them, and can't kill them conundrum"?

He removes the evil for destruction from the Good for relationship.

“If you quit, you let them win.
This is what Obama and the secularists want.
They want all of the foundation forming, values building organizations destroyed.”

The Obammunists have already won, because they’ve already destroyed our institutions by perverting them and hollowing them out. To continue to participate in such Potemkin institutions is to give tacit approval and support, unless there is a REAL chance of re-seizing the levers of power of a destroyed institution and re-turning it around to what it once was. If a destroyed institution cannot be saved, then it is best to allow it to completely collapse and found an alternative organization from scratch.

The Boy Scouts did the one thing, they should never ever have done.

They abandoned their central membership list.

Millions, no tens of millions of former Boy Scouts are out here in America. We every day think proudly of what was for many the formative days of our lives.

Boy Scouts were an important part of growing up. It was a source of challenges, and freedoms. All of it.

Now it is about homosexuality.

The Boy Scouts could not have chosen a more damaging thing to do.

What is needed now, is a challenger to the Boy Scouts.

Another program. Virtually identical to what the Boy Scouts (used) to be.

I no longer support the scouts, as a homosexual program.

I cannot.

“They” have won already. What’s the difference?

They exit with principles intact through the front door heads held high while the perverts slip in through the back door.

“...they’d better band together and form a new organization similar to BSA that retains the traditional values of the BSA.”

You know, I was going to say that exact thing. But then it hit me when I read your comment - how would that new organization keep from getting sued by these destructive people?

Perhaps it would HAVE TO BE an explicitly religious organization.

Perhaps it would HAVE TO BE an explicitly religious organization.

I don't think so, and I don't think the Supreme Court case the BSA won in 2000 was decided on a religious freedom basis. It was decided that the BSA was a private organization and, therefore, had a right to freedom of association and to set its own membership guidelines.

A new organization would have to be privately funded, but it would not have to be specifically religious, though any new BSA-like organization would have some religious content.

“If you quit, you let them win.”

As far as the BSA is concerned, they HAVE won. Past tense. The BSA now supports homosexuality as a valid, morally straight choice.

That is unacceptable to baptists.

Don’t go to the comment section. If you’re a Christian, you might feel a little like Jews felt in Germany just before the Nazis came to power. Lots of hatred and even threats of extermination.

Good.

Every single individual who values principle should exit this now-profligate organization. And I AM NOT condemning the guiltless individuals involved in scouting, but the organization as a whole.

But it you remain a supporter, either by finances and service, in this organization going forward, you are a supporter of perversion.

You hit it on the nose. To stay in Scouting I would have to believe homosexuality is morally straight.

As a FOS I used to give 365 dollars a year to national. They will not see another penny from me.

Putting horny 17 and 18 old homosexuals in the woods with younger boys is not something I will ever support.

The BSA won its supreme court case that recognized their right to set their own membership guidelines. And then the national leadership threw it away.

Yes, they bowed to their corporate sponsors.

There are a lot of religious church sponsored groups, but I'm not aware of ones that have the purpose that BSA has. Most of them have the purpose of Christian education and fellowship.

I agree that expanding the purpose of those groups to just encompass what BSA does would not have the appeal.

I’ve listened to parents and our scout master discuss “solutions”. Make every campout a family campout - no parent, no child. No more campouts for the older boys old enough to consider having sex. Only go with the troop that comes from a conservative Christian school and bans gay students, so there are theoretically no gay boys in the troop. No more camping except “day” camp.
Now it’s a choice between leaving and working within a flawed organization.

That’s a great name for the group. Find a way to get the word out, so these former troops have a place to go. What an opportunity to teach these boys US history and the Constitution and the bullying behavior of perverts and why one shouldn’t give in to bullies.

Interesting, Seems like a half way between the little league and Bible camp, unless I am reading it wrong.

Thank you.

God is NEVER in a no-win bind.

If people stand up for God they'll triumph. The fact that they can't see how they could possibly win by doing what's right rather than calculating the odds first requires faith which is exactly why God hides His path to victory.

If people could see the solution in advance they wouldn't need faith.

The Boy Scouts organization has demanded that God no longer be a member of the organization in any way, shape, or form, not acceptable to the mob in Sodom.

Either follow Lot out of town or die with the mob.

I wish he had not started his statement with...”It’s not a hate thing here..”. Why do we have to apologize, anyway? Do you hear the homos say...”We are not against Christianity but”, or “We are not against the Bible but...” This is starting from a defensive posture.
