The king is in the field

Jewish tradition emphasizes that the month of Elul is a special time of Divine good will and mercy – a time that is particularly conducive to prayer and repentance. Actually, the month is part of the preparatory process for entering into the awesome judgment of Rosh Hashana and the cleansing power of the Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. God makes Himself especially close at hand.

>>SNIP<<

A popular rabbinic teaching describes the reality of the Elul encounter as “the king is in the field.” The analogy is to a great king who pays a surprise visit to his subjects while they are at work in their fields.

>>SNIP<<

What is this field? On one level, it is simply the playing field of life; the stuff of our everyday experience.

But on a deeper level, the field is none other than Mount Moriah, the Temple Mount ….

>>SNIP<<

During this month of Elul, Israel would be well-advised to examine her neglect, disdain and abandonment of the “field which the Lord has blessed” – the Temple Mount.

Absolutely. The King is in the field; and furthermore, the King is letting everyone in His field know that He is unhappy with His people. When we read in westernjournalism.com about an $8 billion, not million, bribe to the Muslim Brotherhood to start a second Holocaust of Jews in the Sinai Peninsula, we have no other choice but to get the message. The King’s message is unequivocal—if you all want to be spared from this fate, then repent, give charity to yeshivos, and do mitzvos. Don’t know Hebrew? Try http://www.alephbais.com/learnheb. The King wants to wake you up, and hopefully, you will wake up without this horrible decree coming to pass, G-d forbid!

I don't know if anybody in Israel can be spared this fate (a second Holocaust). More important, everybody can be spared from God's wrath by believing in Yeshua HaMassiach.

Thanks for the links, I do want to learn Hebrew. I am looking forward to the day when Massiach rules the world from Jerusalem!!

Yes, it is possible to be spared from a second Holocaust, but only with repentence! The field to which the author is referring is the troubles which the King has to bring upon people to get them to repent. Anyone who wishes to see the “mountain” or the “field” or the “house” will have to return to the King first. When people have repented, then the King will do miracles greater than Purim, miracles which have not occurred since Creation. BTW, there is a book called the Gates of Repentence by Rabbeinu Yonah. It is available in Hebrew with an English translation.

I agree the Lord has offered Israel protection if they repent and turn to Him. However, Daniel, Ezekiel, Joel... prophesied that the time would come when all the nations of the earth would turn against Israel and there will be a great killing. For believers (Christians and Jews alike) what matters is not so much what happens here on earth but what happens beyond death. Charity, mitzvos... won't be enough.

Leviticus 17:11 says " For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul". It is crystal clear , it is the blood that makes atonement... it doesn't say anything about alternatives. Let the blood of Yeshua HaMassiach atone for your sins and nothing else will matter.

Personally, I think the author of the article was referring to the Temple Mount as the "field". Can you say with certainty that the King does not want His people to clean the Temple Mount from the abomination of desolation and erect the Third Holy Temple?

You are referring to the Holocaust that already happened.

In my opinion, giving charity to Jewish yeshivos and returning to mitzvos is enough to save Jews from a second Holocaust. Charity and performing mitzvos save from death! For Jews, doing the 613 commandments is the main event. Keeping the commandments, not learning, is the most important thing, especially to save Jewry from this horrible decree.

You are referring to the Holocaust that already happened.

Really? What does Ezekiel say? "You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates’— to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are again inhabited, and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land." (Eze 38:11-12). At the time of the Holocaust there was no nation of Israel: the places were wasted but the people had not yet been gathered from the nations. I'm not even sure it speaks of today, since Israel is not at peace or prosperous (too much $ spent in defense). But I'm pretty certain Ezekiel was not talking about the Holocaust that already happened.

As for fulfilling the 613 mitzvot, if you were able to do that, where does it say that it will save you from the wrath of God? Like Leviticus says, only the blood atones for sins, and without a Temple there hasn't been any sacrifices for 2,000 years. Only the blood of Yeshua HaMassiach can help you!

I do not agree with you. The books Shmiras HaLashon and the Chofetz Chayim detail how life and death are in the power of restraining one’s speech. Those books are both available with an English translation. Anybody who does not live near a Jewish bookstore and wants to read these books can order them online; and he should, because they can change his life for the better! The Chofetz Chaim, in English is incredibly good, but both books have the power to get him where he needs to be spiritually.

Are you telling me that Lev. 17:11 is wrong when it says " it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul"? It does not say it is one of the things that make atonement, but the thing.

The books you are talking about were written by men, wise men, but men nevertheless. Leviticus was written by inspiration of God.

Doesn’t the month of Elul plus the ten days have some kind of connection to the number 40, i.e. Israel’s 40 years in the wilderness?

Also, wasn’t Elul the month in old Israel when the tithing was done? The tenth that is the Lord’s separated out from the rest of the flock?

Let the blood of Yeshua HaMassiach atone for your sins and nothing else will matter.

Amen. John 3:16.

The entire Bible is the word of God, not men. As for the blood, that is not the only way to atone for one’s sins. There are people who achieve atonement by refraining from forbidden speech, such as gossip, telling false tales that one knows are false, swearing, cursing, fighting, and so on. Restraining one’s tongue is so difficult that attaining this level is enough to prevent a second Holocaust.
