Featured Term (selected at random):

QUO VADIS?

Latin words for the question that, according to legend, was asked of Christ by Peter as he was fleeing Rome during Nero's persecution. Christ is said to have answered, "I am coming to be crucified again." Peter took this as a rebuke, so he went back to be martyred. It is also the title of a famous Polish novel (1895) by Hendryk Sienkiewicz on the life of the early Christians in Rome during the reign of Emperor Nero.

“Quo vadis?” Literally, ‘where are you going?’ in Latin. The citation gives a religious context, did not make that clear.

I was taught it meant “whither go’st thou? I guess that is the same but fancier.

A good friend of mine is a huge fan of Sienkiewicz’s books, especially “With Fire and Sword” and the rest of his trilogy. My buddy told me, “The Catholic Faith is almost a palpable character through out the Trilogy especially in the 1st book.”.
