And you DO have the right mindset as shown here: ... let Him do the job of keeping me ...
Many folks will shout from the rooftops: "SAVED BY GRACE!!! and will slink into the cellar and whisper, "kept by works."
I think the problem we've encountered here is not whether one can lose their salvation, but HOW they could lose it.
Sinning will NOT cause you to lose it; or we'd ALL be lost. (The hand in the cookie jar)
If one KEEPS on sinning after many... Hebrews 10:26 ... well; good luck with THAT!!!
There is a LEGAL problem with David's sin with Bathsheba. He SHOULD have been stoned to death - yet he wasn't. Why? (I won't get into that now...)
Reading Psalm 51, where he pours out his soul in realization of his sins - adultery, murder - he apparently didn't lose his salvation.
We read, in verse 12,
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Not 'restore my salvation' but 'restore the JOY of my salvation'.
UNBELIEF - that's the problem with losing your salvation.
UNBELIEF that GOD can keep' you.
It's easy; the devil is a real convincing persuader.
Elijah, after just defeating the prophets of Baal; gets all bent out of shape over threats from Jezebel, goes into hiding and has a massive pity party.
John, languishing in jail, facing a VERY short haircut, wonders if Jesus is really the one...
Well, you know I ain’t in UNBELIEF!!
My BELIEF is all I got, Sister Elsie! Or should I say Brother Elsie?
Perhaps that’s what keeps me in belief....I don’t have anyone else but the Lord and I am sure not going to abandon the one that brung me to the dance. I am nuttin’ if not loyal...says the one who believes in pre-trib. If post-trib, good thing it is on Him.
Know what I mean, Vern?!
David was a “man after God’s heart.” True Godly sorrow for sin is what separates a believer from a professing one. That and the terrible consequences...I would just rather forgo them and not do the sin in the first place. But I did have to learn that the hard way.
Exhaustion is overtaking me these last few days so if not around much it is not because I have abandoned the fight. Just resting up to fight again another day.
God bless ya, Elsie!
And jodyel, facing a nervous breakdown, flees Michigan for Texas after the Lord fought a two-year battle to restore her to a job she was wrongfully terminated from. But not before everyone in the place knew Who had wrought the victory. So point made even if I did not stick around to enjoy it. Was too sick.
Has her breakdown in Texas and spends the next 11 years recovering.
Elijah and I have lots in common...so do Jonah and I.
I never doubt my salvation. Lots of times I have not liked my circumstances and doubted if I had heard correctly from the Lord, especially in times of long waits, but never my salvation or my Lord. He always gets it right even if I don’t like it or get it. So I am on His team all the way!
And another thing for me is that I am not physically, emotionally, or financially able to do a lot of “works.” In fact, I am the Mary in a family full of Martha’s. Don’t you know I stick out like a sore thumb.
Busy, busy, busy...I don’t think so. lol
So if the Lord loves me and saves me and keeps me, when I do little in return except love Him back...well....I am sure.
HE has, vastly!
And YOU are one of the blessings!!
Thanks for your testimony through the dark night that overtook you.
He IS faithful!
You have chosen... ;^)
well!
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lords feet listening to what he said.
Later, Mary was confused, and called for a council of the church fathers to explain just what Jesus MEANT.
Wow, thanks...not sure what to say to that except praise the Lord!
Hey, what about ME, stumpy?! I didn’t pull you outta the heap of human hubris, give you a cigar, and put you on the circuit just to have you give me the what-for when another dame shows up. (nothin’ personal, sister, this is between stumpy and me). Now, pick up yer bottom jaw and lace up them boots, we gotta road to ride. And a ring to rumble up.
;)
No worries, my friend.
Btw, I have not posted to that discussion you are having with roamer cause that is way over my head and out of my league. But I am following along and learning.
So you go, girl!
Hey, feel free to jump in ANYTIME. You are ALWAYS welcome, dear sister in Christ!
OH, I went back and read the post you were referring to! It’s a joke that I have with Elsie, (I HOPE he remembers THAT!), trading barbs and insults, all in fun (It IS for fun, isn’t it, Elsie??!..)
