12 Historical Quotes Against Sodomy That Every Christian Should Know
Virtue Online ^ | 12-14-13 | TFP Student Action

For millennia the Catholic Church has consistently opposed unnatural vice. Here is a brief sampling of useful quotes from Saints, Doctors of the Church, Church Fathers and Ecclesiastical Writers who condemn homosexual vice in their writings.

1. Athenagoras of Athens (2nd Century)

Athenagoras of Athens was a philosopher who converted to Christianity in the second century. He shows that the pagans, who were totally immoral, did not even refrain from sins against nature:

"But though such is our character (Oh. why should I speak of things unfit to be uttered?), the things said of us are an example of the proverb, 'The harlot reproves the chaste.' For those who have set up a market for fornication and established infamous resorts for the young for every kind of vile pleasure - who do not abstain even from males, males with males committing shocking abominations, outraging all the noblest and comeliest bodies in all sorts of ways, so dishonoring the fair workmanship of God."1

2. Tertullian (160-225)

Tertullian was a great genius and apologist of the early Church. Unfortunately, after an initial period of fervor, he succumbed to resentment and pride, left the Church and adhered to the Montanist heresy. Because of works written while still in the Church, he is considered an Ecclesiastical Writer and, as such, is commonly quoted by Popes and theologians. His treatise On Modesty is an apology of Christian chastity. He clearly shows the horror the Church has for sins against nature. After condemning adultery, he exclaims:

"But all the other frenzies of passions–impious both toward the bodies and toward the sexes–beyond the laws of nature, we banish not only from the threshold, but from all shelter of the Church, because they are not sins, but monstrosities."2

6. Saint Augustine (354-430)

The greatest of the Fathers of the West and one of the great Doctors of the Church, Saint Augustine laid the foundations of Catholic theology. In his celebrated Confessions, he thus condemns homosexuality:

"Those offences which be contrary to nature are everywhere and at all times to be held in detestation and punished; such were those of the Sodomites, which should all nations commit, they should all be held guilty of the same crime by the divine law, which hath not so made men that they should in that way abuse one another. For even that fellowship which should be between God and us is violated, when that same nature of which He is author is polluted by the perversity of lust."6

Any Christian worth his or her salt knows that sodomy is wrong. If not, they should question their true belief and understanding of the Bible.

... the Sodomites ...

A very apt way of identifying those people.

hard to defend the Gospel when the President is bisexual. Now more Americans will believe they have to try it because the President says homosexuality is moral. It’s a mixed up crazy world

The fact we have to oppose “sodomy” on a constant today, as well as those who choose to murder babies, children, and that of the elderly....coupled with all the sexual perversion which has become the “standard” of behavior today ..certainly attests to how depraved this nation IS...not becoming but has already more than passed over the threshold of the standards God intended would protect man from himself.

Every Christian 'knows' what God says about Sodomy and sexual perversion, it's very clear in God's written word to us. The most ancient writers can do is reinforce what is already known....and obvious few hear them any better now then they did then or we wouldn't be in the condition we are today that we see around us.

Only the Holy Spirit of God can change the wiles of men..... few today are interested or willing to hear or act on the Spirits lead and conviction...instead they are heaping up Pastors, Priests and others who “tickle their ears” with what they want to hear.

Yep, I have recently switched exclusively to calling them what they were historically called.

Take back the language! Don’t let them hide behind the word “gay”

The Communist Takeover Of
America - 45 Declared Goals

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”

Not crazy... it is all planned.. those 45 goals are a blueprint for the last 50 years... and this country doesn’t have 50 more years left...

One of the most important, non-canonical books, is The Didache. Estimated Range of Dating: 50-120 A.D. It is a short yet succinct writing. Note the following:

Chapter 2. The Second Commandment: Grave Sin Forbidden. And the second commandment of the Teaching; You shall not commit murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not commit pederasty, you shall not commit fornication, you shall not steal, you shall not practice magic, you shall not practice witchcraft, you shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is born. You shall not covet the things of your neighbor, you shall not swear, you shall not bear false witness, you shall not speak evil, you shall bear no grudge. You shall not be double-minded nor double-tongued, for to be double-tongued is a snare of death. Your speech shall not be false, nor empty, but fulfilled by deed. You shall not be covetous, nor rapacious, nor a hypocrite, nor evil disposed, nor haughty. You shall not take evil counsel against your neighbor. You shall not hate any man; but some you shall reprove, and concerning some you shall pray, and some you shall love more than your own life.

Direct and to the point.

Thanks...but I take no pleasure in stating what I did...

....it's more than heartbreaking to see and hear the mindset of man today, the utter stupidity being thrown around by the Godless is bad enough, but when the church leaders and others like them so easily incorporate worldly standards into the churches as we see today, and accept the grave sins of so many with no reference to repentance...and somehow think quoting ancient writers is going to make it right...my blood really boils....it didn't work then and it won't work now without God moving in a mans heart and the willingness to listen when He does.

It’s also disgusting.

Putting things where they do not belong is never a good idea.

This is all good— but lacking Only in the personal witness of the modern man. Those who say it isn’t right for them lack the juevos to insist it is Just NOT Right. IT remains a sin against God and Man —a crime of infamy worthy of death.

Well, these saints can kiss goodbye the possibility of a show on A&E.

Seriously, though, they are correct in every word.

I understand how you feel. We’ve become a nation of immoral people who will have to answer to God one day. We are, as a nation, in dire need of a spiritual awakening. Apathy, ignorance and living in one’s own little world have made it possible.

I think that’s when Mr. Hussein was still running the Iraqi government and he was there to, um, help his subjects.

The next Spiritual Awakening will not be that of God's doing...we are already seeing vast numbers of deceptions and false teachings escalate both in and outside the churches..and this nations people, and worldwide, are ripe for deception and so willingly mislead. I believe we've crossed the threshold where mankind is fast loosing the ability ‘to see truth’ and love to see lies and believe in them....just as He said it would be.
