It's Not Homosexuality or Having an Abortion: CNN Poll Reveals America's Most Agreed Upon Sin
Christian Post ^ | 01/08/2014 | Morgan Lee

Posted on 01/08/2014 10:23:50 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Ninety-four percent of Americans believe that "being married and having sex with someone else" is morally wrong, the highest figure on a list of eight actions that CNN asked 1,010 adults to ethically classify earlier this month.

"Cheating on your taxes" followed adultery with 90 percent of Americans classifying it as morally wrong. "Having an abortion," "engaging in homosexual behavior" and "looking at a pornographic magazine" came in at 57, 50, and 46 percent, respectively.

Glenn Stanton, the director for Family Formation Studies at Focus on the Family, explained Americans' lack of consensus on what made an action morally wrong by arguing that they lacked a comprehensive ethical framework with regards to how they made their own decisions and evaluated others.

"It's an emotional or gut reaction," Stanton told The Christian Post. "There just seems to be less consistent moral thinking all the way through in terms of a general moral narrative that people have."

"It's kind of a buffet mentality: 'Well, that seems fine to me, that doesn't seem problematic to me,' rather than having a moral system or moral code that people have and hold and run everything through it," he added.

Stanton said he was not surprised that adultery was rated as highly because it is consistent with a philosophy that called for "consent" and "nobody getting hurt."

"It's our biggest sexual ethic today. If two people consent to it than it's fine, regardless of what that might be," said Stanton.

But adultery violated this principle, he said.

"In cheating on your spouse, the two cheaters may be consenting, but the cheated upon-spouse is, in a way, a participant and they are not consenting," Stanton added.

Stanton, who wrote a book about cohabitation in 2011, The Ring Makes All the Difference, was not surprised that only 32 percent of Americans believed it was morally wrong to live "with someone when you're not married."

"I've heard older parents say [to their children] 'Why don't you guys just move in together and see how this is going to work out?' Seventy-five percent of cohabiters have some intention of marrying. They are kind of cohabiting out of the idea of 'let's test this relationship,'" said Stanton. "Rather than a moral thing, they're seeing this as a pragmatic thing."

Americans showed the least judgment toward "drinking alcohol beverages" and "smoking marijuana," which was legalized at the beginning of the year in Colorado. Only 15 and 35 percent of Americans, respectively, agreed that those actions were morally wrong.

ORC International conducted the survey for CNN from Jan. 3-5. The sampling error poll, which was administered over telephone, is plus or minus three percentage points.

The income tax is an immoral tax on a man’s labor and so “cheating” on those taxes can’t possibly be immoral.

I don’t seem much of an issue with cheating on income tax. Mostly because it is nearly impossible to get do income tax without getting SOMETHING wrong.

So-called “tax evasion” isn’t morally wrong, much less a sin. So-called “tax evasion” is a victimless economic regulatory offense, like undocumented immigration, and like undocumented immigration, it should not be viewed as a moral issue.

In fact, it’s high time to get rid of the emotional and prejudicial rhetoric regarding “tax evasive”. No tax payer is evasive. Rather, some tax payers simply fail to fully document their economic activity with the IRS. The fact is that these hard working undocumenting tax payers pay thousands every year in state and local taxes through sales taxes, property taxes, gas taxes, etc. It’s just that the undocumenting taxpayer wants to save a little on his federal taxes so that he can make a better for his family. It’s also important to note that undocumenting tax payers put thousands every year into the local economy, which contributes to economic growth for the benefit of everyone.

The fact that an estimated 30% of federal income tax filers are undocumenting proves that our income tax system is broken. The income tax system is needlessly complicated and expensive to comply with. Often, one needs to hire a specialist to navigate the system’s complexities. Sometimes even a lawyer! What we need is comprehensive tax reform to streamline the system and reduce amounts owned by everyone.

Curious results, since my own opinion is the American pop culture worships sex, not God. However, adultery is personal, whereas the two guys in the apartment on the third floor “aren’t hurting anybody”.

Neither in morally wrong when the government has confiscatory taxes and selective enforcement and punishment as we see today!

Extend that to the rationale for the 43% that believe there isn’t another party in the decision to have an abortion. (You know, like dad, or the baby).

My earnings do NOT belong to caesar. They belong to me.

The government stealing them by force to use for immoral purposes (such as promoting homosexual perversion) is criminal.

Seeking to keep as much of my earnings out of their hands as possible is a moral good.

God asks for only 10%. Anything above 10% that the government would ask for is instantly immoral.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I’m surprised it’s this high since there has been an all out assualt to accept it as normal. This must really make the pro-homosexual crowd crazy. That no matter what they do, half of the population will never accept them as “normal”.

My point is, Jesus does address taxes. And instructs those who follow him to pay their taxes. It doesn’t mean you have to agree with the level or taxation, and doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be fighting to lower them, but by saying “not paying taxes is a sin” in no way puts government ahead of God.

Did his first wife consent?

Joseph Smith, BY's predecessor, was legally married to Emma.

She did NOT 'consent' to any of the other women he had.

The MORMON GOD threatened EMMA to obey Joseph or she would be DESTROYED!!!

Guess what... she wasn't.

The GOD of Mormonism is a big kidder I guess...

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 132
51–57, Emma Smith is counseled (commanded) to be faithful and true; 58–66, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.

51 Verily, I say unto you: A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you to offer unto her; for I did it, saith the Lord, to aprove you all, as I did Abraham, and that I might require an offering at your hand, by covenant and sacrifice.
52 And let mine handmaid, Emma Smith, areceive all those that have been given unto my servant Joseph, and who are virtuous and pure before me; and those who are not pure, and have said they were pure, shall be destroyed, saith the Lord God.
53 For I am the Lord thy God, and ye shall obey my voice; and I give unto my servant Joseph that he shall be made ruler over many things; for he hath been afaithful over a few things, and from henceforth I will strengthen him.
54 And I command mine handmaid, Emma Smith, to abide and acleave unto my servant Joseph, and to none else. But if she will not abide this commandment she shall be bdestroyed, saith the Lord; for I am the Lord thy God, and will destroy her if she abide not in my law.
55 But if she will not abide this commandment, then shall my servant Joseph do all things for her, even as he hath said; and I will bless him and multiply him and give unto him an ahundredfold in this world, of fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, houses and lands, wives and children, and crowns of beternal lives in the eternal worlds.
56 And again, verily I say, let mine handmaid aforgive my servant Joseph his trespasses; and then shall she be forgiven her trespasses, wherein she has trespassed against me; and I, the Lord thy God, will bless her, and multiply her, and make her heart to brejoice.

Whatever HAPPENED to Emma???

Eliza was a devout Mormon.

At age 38, she became Joseph Smith's 14th plural wife (in addition to Smith's lawful wife, Emma).

In 1842, after learning Eliza was pregnant, Emma Smith beat Eliza with a broomstick and
knocked her down a flight of stairs, causing Eliza to miscarry Smith's baby.
Wow!!

I guess ol' Emma got VAPORIZED by GOD!!!

We know that multiply him thing sure didn't work out!

Should one really care what the merchant of poisoning wells says?...those who do not keep the Lord's commandments receive no truth!

Because it is only when one keeps the commandments of the Jesus Christ the Lord's comforter will reside in us.

John 14 Jesus speaks of many mansions—He says that He is the way, the truth, and the life and that to see Him is to see the Father—He promises the first and second Comforters.

15 ¶If ye love me, keep my commandments.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

***

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

If Godhead are all one why is the Father greater than his only begotten Son Jesus Christ?

I always read all are one in mind.

How can one be keeping the Lord's commandments when one is always engaging in Faultfinding, figure pointing, undermine ;

Romans 15

5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

7 Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

Now we too are commanded to be one in mind as Jesus is one in Mind with the Father The Father is greater than Jesus and Jesus is greater this his followers yet we are all ONE.

Strange that people don’t realize that a third Person IS involved, when two “consenting adults” sin. That’s the Almighty God and His wrath. To the extent that it’s only them involved, only they’ll pay the price for those sins. But if a nation encourages their sin, then the whole nation will pay the price for those sins.

THAT’S the part of the equation that our Founders understood, and that’s why our laws were indistinguishable from God’s commands. That wasn’t some accident. And we were richly blessed for our collective obedience. But our leaders and our people are too stupid to see that obedience = blessings and disobedience = wrath. THAT’S how our formerly rich and prosperous nation is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. That’s not an accident either.

The Chinese long ago know about this ( and they were not Christians ).

Their wise men would say that there were 4 entities that know -— Heaven, Hell, and two consenting adults.

So, this is not just a “Christian” thing. This is common wisdom passed down from above to humanity, which the moderns are forgetting.

RE: I thought adultry was also having sex before marriage?

Having sex with someone other than your spouse after marriage is adultery. Adultery violates the bond of the marriage union.

Fornication is a more general term usually referring to any kind of sexual misconduct or sexual impurity outside of the bounds of marriage.

Both are condemned by Scripture.

Matthew 15:19:

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies ... (KJV)

Sorry to tell you, but Brigham Young was beyond the reach of the U.S. Law at the time. Polygamy was a well established form of marriage for many societies throughout history. Because of the Homosexual loby, it will be very legal within the next decade in some if not all states.

I don't agree with either form of marriage, but facts is facts and while he's in Deseret/Utah it was not illegal to be a bigamist. That was a huge point of v\contention and required a change of LDS rules before Utah would be admitted to the union in the late 19th Century.

Little did we know how ahead of the game they where. If only they had rewarded sodomy they would have been ready for the 21st century.
