UN 'cannot stand by' during 'crime against humanity' in Mosul, says Chaldean Patriarch
Catholic Culture ^ | July 24, 2014 | Diogenes

In an urgent message to UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, Chaldean Catholic Patriarch Louis Sako has said that the UN “cannot stand by and be a witness to the ongoing atrocities committed against Christians” in Iraq.

While thanking the UN leader for his public condemnation of the violence against Christians in areas controlled by the Islamic State, the Chaldean prelate asked for energetic international pressure to stop the persecution. He emphasized that “the militants want to wipe out the Christian community.”

“The instability in Iraq threatens the entire region,” the Patriarch reminded the UN leader. He pleaded for diplomatic action to end the violence, and to ensure that Iraq’s government respects the rights of minorities.

In a separate message, the Chaldean Patriarch joined with the Christian leaders of Mosul in statement expressing shock and pain at “what happened to the innocent Christians of Mosul because of their religious affiliation.” Citing the statement by Ban Ki-moon, the Church leaders said that the violence in Mosul was “a crime against humanity.”

“We are waiting for practical acts to reassure our people, not for statements of condemnation and denouncement,” the Church leaders said.

As you all know, I practice my Catholic faith in a Maronite (Eastern) Catholic Church. The roots of the Maronite Church go back to Antioch where the term "christian" was first used and where St. Peter served as bishop before going to Rome. Our pastor is from Lebanon; he is a celibate, monastic, missionary priest in his thirties. Some of our parishioners travel back and forth to Lebanon on a regular basis. Lebanon is often used as an example of a country where both christians and muslims coexist on a fraternal level.

I appreciate how these Catholic christians have shown the love of Christ to their fellow muslim neighbors over the course of many centuries. However, I still view their approach as naive. The christian population of Lebanon is shrinking. Now that Iraq is in the hands of Islamic fundamentalists, it is only a matter of time before they extend their caliphate to the surrounding region.

Please pray for peace in this region, Ping!

Since we’re run by anti-American Muzzies—don’t expect the US government to do a damn thing.

Adding my prayers.

I was a bit surprised today to hear Al Kresta express (on his Catholic radio show this afternoon) some anger and frustration and consternation at the complete silence (on these genocidal Islamic atrocities) from many quarters which should be speaking up loudly (and acting where appropriate) from many quarters, including the Church, the USA, the UN, etc.

Where are their indignant voices?!?!?

Right. There was a time when the U.S. Gov’t would act on it's own, not needing to be petitioned. Then the day came when the U.S. Gov’t would sit on their hands until their moral leadership was questioned - then they acted.

Now of course we are at the stage you have pointed out. Shameful.

All we can do is pray. In time justice will happen. God Bless ALL the Middle Eastern Christians.

Good life’s work but wake up Louis Sako. UNaccountable bureaucrats (socialists) DO NOT CARE about atrocities committed against Christians in Iraq. You will get ZERO support. Their totalitarian partners would just as soon cut your head off, infidel. Collateral damage for a larger agenda.

Get ready to have an important Christian community in exile.

Exactly…and the mid-eastern klansmen's jihad will advance relentlessly.

Paleo-nazis cleansing their lands.

The universalism of Islam, in its all-embracing creed, is imposed on the be- lievers as a continuous process of warfare, psychological and political, if not strictly military. . . . The Jihad, accordingly, may be stated as a doctrine of a permanent state of war, not continuous fighting."— Majid Khadduri - The Quranic Concept of War

A VERY important Christian community in exile. History unfolding and evidences of an alternative ideology wiped out forever.

The ONLY way the UN would decide to involve itself in Mosul is if someone rose up to fight ISIS and begin to make progress in that fight. Then we’d hear calls to “stop the bloodshed.”

Until then, the UN is disinterested in the slaughter of Christians or the mutilation of girls.

The UN probably won’t “stand by” but the Christians won’t care for the UN’s intervention at all. The UN will use the confiscated churches and monasteries for refugees, Moslem refugees being processed for shipment to Boise and Moline.

With all due respect to Chaldean Catholic Patriarch Louis Sako, the UN “[CAN] stand by and be a witness to the ongoing atrocities committed against Christians” in Iraq. The UN hates Christians right behind the Jews. The UN is a criminal, Muslim psycho loving organization.
