Is he going around telling people to follow his Rhemas?

Never even heard any of them talking about something like that nor heard anything like it in the one basic course I went through 20 something years ago and growing up in a very legalistic church anything extra Biblical would have set off huge alarm bells and had me running for the hills.

Besides most of them would have run for the hills if they were required to follow some extra Biblical "Rhema" especially the veterinarian couple, the doctor and engineer.

A very good portion of the families were rather well educated and not easily led. A few might have fallen for something like that but watching an exodus of their friends would definitely set off alarm bells.

I am sorry, I still do not think you understand or really see the whole.

Show me some "Rhema" he got all of his cult members to follow that does not have some Biblical background.

Seriously, unless you can find an example where he is forcing his cult to do something not Biblical than this is ridiculous and useless and I am done.

I agree with you that protestant v catholic and all the un essential stuff makes me ill.

My beef with BG and the Duggers is rooted in the innocent children damaged and forced into these systems of belief. BG and the Duggers should not be celebrated or emulated. The truth must be known. The Duggers consider the television show to be ministry. Outreach. I will oppose them to keep any more kids from being abused by the BG system.

So that is my “why”.

“Sometimes I really do not understand the logic of others and maybe that is my biggest problem.”

I went to the Gothard seminar many moons ago. Didn’t blow my mind like it seemed to do for others. It seemed to suit a certain type of personality, as I have come to believe about many churches.

I’m sick of listening to man. I want to hear from The Lord! I’ve been soaking up Scripture by listening to it while at work and on the bicycle. Listened to Romans today and it was just awesome hearing glorious truths of God in Christ. I love Paul dearly. It amazes me that God by His Spirit can speak to me TODAY by way of a child of His who’s been gone for so long. But He does. Why do we really care what some man has to say anyway, when our Father has spoken through His Son so richly, and through His appointed apostles and prophets?

Bless you.

No, I am so sick of the nick picking at stupid stuff "Christians" do when they should be picking the logs out of their own eyes instead of the sawdust out of others that are trying very hard to stand for God.

Is there a single denomination we can not find something to nit pick about the Free Methodist super holiness thing, can't remember what it is called now. Church of Christ belief they are the only ones going to heaven because they are the only ones doing it right, yep, my kids and I are damned because we played musical instruments in church, Baptist and being dunked over sprinkled, or being a real Christian once the Holy Spirit bathe you with speaking in tounges or Catholics praying to saints and on an on. Every denomination has something the others think they are wrong about.

Seriously find me a perfect teacher of the Bible that you are positive has it exactly right because isn't that is why we have so many denominations?? Some preacher decided he read the Bible better than the last and it happened over and over, well that and someone did not like the color of the carpet picked.

We all need to try and be discerning but unless you can tell me where all the Gothard "cultist" are following some extra Biblical teaching as a whole then what is your point other than to cause hatred toward a bunch of very good families spread out through almost all denominations, trying very hard to put God first in their lives and for the most part succeeding very well.

So explain the cultist extra Biblical teaching these not so easily led people spread out through so many denominations listening to other pastors every weekend are following in lock step.

Extra bilical teaching spread through so many churches?

The umbrella of authority.

I found this correct pronunciation on youtube. I don’t endorse the video it in the link as I have not watched it except to give you a correct pronunciation. Go to 19 seconds.

Just ask the Catholic church about their umbrella of authority...not exactly something new.

Did you ever go to a basic seminar? It was nothing different than what the Bible teaches. Does the Bible teach you to follow God? Listen to your and honor your parents? Give to Caesar what is Caesar's? Etc.

Seriously, that umbrella of authority you are having trouble with is Christianity and why our founders knew democracy would end once Christianity ended. We and our willingness to follow that umbrella, govern our own actions by respecting God, parents, teachers and government because when we stop...chaos.

He gave an allegorical name that people understood to explain some Biblical teaching and that is a problem? That is extra Biblical? Gee, then every sermon for the last, no I will not say how long has been cultish because they have all done their best to explain in layman's term what the Bible is trying to say.

Neither, like I said before, not for me. I got drug to one basic seminar over 20 years ago and my sons had many interactions with many of the families in home schooling activities.

Look, from what I remember of his seminar, and that was over 20 years ago, it was the basics of Christianity laid out in very easy to understand format. Having come from a very legalistic and Bible based upbringing I was very surprised not to find fault with some part of the teaching, I think I missed one day though.

Nothing earth shattering but done well.

I am sorry the guy turned out to be a loser personally but that does not take away from the good he did do in this life or the very good families that took part in ATIA. So they took a different road than some of us and some of them do not wear the cutting edge of fashion....good for them that does not make them into a cult neither does not understanding what he was trying to say.

I got to see a bunch of very impressive families over the years who were part of the ATIA schooling part of the program and this thread really disgusted me. They did not deserve this smear.

The real question is why you are so hot-to-trot to smear them all with one brush? They harm you somehow? You grow up in one of these families and feel repressed somehow?
