Is the Catholic Church ‘Evolving’ on Gay Marriage? (Time magazine)
Time ^ | 9/8/14 | Christopher J Hale

Bit by bit

Last week New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan gave his okay to the St. Patrick Day Parade Committee’s decision to allow a gay group to march in the 2015 parade under their own banner. This was a remarkable shift from one of Dolan’s predecessors Cardinal John O’Connor who in 1993 declared that to allow a gay group to march in the parade would be a slander to the Apostle’s Creed.

This closes a remarkable summer in which a number of high-ranking Catholic prelates have signaled that Pope Francis’s more open posture on gay issues has permeated through the Catholic world. In May, a top-ranking Italian bishop said that the Church should be more open to arguments in support of same-sex marriage. And just a few weeks ago, one of Pope Francis’s closest friends Brazilian Cardinal Cláudio Hummes said in an interview that he “didn’t know” whether Jesus would oppose gay marriage.

All of this comes as the Catholic Church prepares for October’s Synod on the Family. This blockbuster event will bring bishops from around the world to Rome to discuss among other things, how the Church should change its pastoral practices towards those in same-sex relationships.

All this begs the question: is the Catholic Church “evolving” on gay marriage? Of course, it should be noted from the beginning that this possible evolution is unlikely to become a revolution. Don’t expect Pope Francis to come out in support of gay marriage anytime soon. His “evolution” on this issue will not look like that of President Barack Obama.

If it does, then it’s be an anti-Biblical position.

Dolan wants to be the convivial Irishman, slap you on the back, tell a joke and be everybody's friend.

The attributes of a good bar owner won't work as an Archbishop.

The answer is No as the Catholic Church, God and the Bible cannot and do not evolve and that fact keeps our world from slipping into anarchy and destruction.

The Church has always had weak and poorly informed leaders. That is why the Church has protection from the Holy Spirit to protect it from being officialy changed by sophists in the Hierarchy.

Just wait.

Read the article - threw up in my mouth.

Nothing but lies and statements taken out of context.

Dolan’s actions are not taken out of context. The man is set to do more damage to the church than the molesters.

Only in Time magazine’s drug induced fantasies is the Roman Catholic Church “evolving.” It shall stay the true course under Pope Francis.

I think Franklin Graham is right, one has to wonder if these are the last days we are in.

Hey the Catholic Church could have stepped in many years ago and just said that voting for pro abortion pro homo candidates would be reason for excommunication etc, but they are more talk than action

I am equally critical of the ALL Black Church and Liberal Protestants etc

Why do you think liberals are so happy about Pope Francis?

There’s no “evolving” possible. Two people of the same sex simply can’t marry each other; it’s an impossibility. Marriage has never ever been conceived of that way, and saying that a bizarre secular legal fiction is something that the Church is going to “evolve” to accept just shows how little Time magazine knows about the Church. Or marriage. Or anything.

The parade is not a Catholic event.

Although it seems once it was.

Lavender mafia strikes again.

Is the church "evolving" on gay marriage, Time breathlessly wonders.

I'm reminded of all the election year articles that we're starting to see (as we do each election year), with headlines like "Are Jews Abandoning the Democrat Party?" and "Black Americans Have More Conservative Values Than Whites" and "Is This The Year Maryland Goes Repub?"

(the answer is NO to all, in case it needs saying... and yes, that last one was facetious)

Dolan is not the Catholic Church, so no.

Not all leaders are good ones. Unfortunately, Dolan is behaving as a fool. This is a mistake.

It is, especially with the Italian Bishops pushing to embrace “non-traditional” families and the general tone coming from the papacy. This pope will introduce fundamental changes in the Church and not for the better.

You will never see a Roman Catholic priest with the acquiescence of his Bishop officiate at a gay marriage. However you will see the homosexual editors and writers at Time do everything they can to demean the Catholic Church.
