Although the topic of violence in Islam is a controversial one, Benedict XVI placed it at the center of his treatment of our knowledge of God within his often misunderstood and misrepresented Regensburg Lecture, given eight years ago, on September 12, 2006. Put simply, false views of God’s nature can lead to religiously motivated actions, such as terrorism and violent persecution, which are contrary to the nature and will of God.

Why do Catholics presume to know what God Muslim’s believe in? It doesn’t matter what Catholics or Christians may think. Why not ask a Muslim and I am certain you will get a different answer. After all we are infidels to them.
It is most likely about the real differences that cannot be denied.

How could any mere mortal possibly know about the nature of a supernatural being or beings?
Unless of course he was approached by a supernatural being, like Muhamed was.

A finite being cannot know all of an infinite being, true, but the finite being can know something, in accordance with his capacity. You cannot love what you do not know, and we are meant to love God with all our hearts, so some knowledge of God is necessary. The tricky part in the past with regard to apparently conflicting theologies was some missing information that successfully explained both points of view simultaneously. Thus the great work of Aquinas, who reconciled Aristotle and Augustine, when many of St. Thomas’s contemporaries thought it impossible.
So who today would dare reconcile Christianity and Islam?
