if any christian reads their bible they know the church - the body of believers - and the world - are going to be at odds.
the church has no desire to be changed to the world. the church has the desire that the world be transformed and join the church. voluntarily, not by force.
:-) another “mistranslation”
Very well said.
I just taught a Bible study and one of the ladies is in a care home and she was telling me about the Bible study leader there.
The leader there was saying “The world is changing and so we don’t need to follow the Bible anymore.”
My friend told her that the Bible still applies — even today in our modern world.
I was under the impression that the Catholic Church was eternal. They have been in the 21st century for nearly 2,000 years, just as they have been in the 11th century and the 31st century. Truth is timeless.

Oh yes! Perfect answer because it is the CORRECT one.
Boy, you were sure LISTENING to all those sermons.
Second, so much about modernity is...overrated.
1. TRUE, TRUE, TRUE.
2. It's a much healthier world, especially for women. Few women die in child bearing anymore. That USED to be a big killer.
Living a long time is only worthwhile if one is healthy and if one can do good in the world, that is, HELP people and bring them closer to God.
And make life better for all animals--except fleas, earwigs, mosquitoes and potato bugs. Major UGH.
Europe came into the 20th Century in 1914 by launching the Great War. So much for the idea of inevitable progress which the 19th century so cherished.
Not vote, nominate. That was an awkward sentence.
Yes! Pope Francis comes to mind.
The Church is not falling to pieces. It has never been better. This is a wonderful moment for the Church, you just need to look at its history.

-— but my own first thought reading your question was “B-O”. -—
That’s who came to my mind first.
