I’d like to see someone try to establish a non-Russian Orthodox Christian church in Russia, and then post here about how Putin “cares about restoring Christianity.”
All during my childhood we were told to pray for the conversion of Russia. I wonder if having done this, this may well be our last chance to survive. We saved them, they save us.
I don't really care about Putin. He very well may have ulterior motives. Some of them might actually be good motives if we were not so PC.
Secondly there is a difference between politics and religion. Catholics should know this. We have been doing this for years. Politics we disagree on, but there is one true thing that Putin and I share. No denying that. I am closer to Putin then I am Obama. So are all of you. For good or for ill Putin is a Christian. May not be the type of person I want to be around except in a pew, but then again neither is Obama.
Now I am going to go read the article. :)
Maybe the Russians like being Russian Orthodox.
"Russia has considered herself a Christian nation for over a thousand years, making the duration of her 70 year experiment with atheistic communism pale in comparison. Over the last 25 years, Russia has revived, restored or newly built more than 25,000 churches and 800 monasteries". This is true. We had slavery, they had communism, so because of that neither country can ever be moral again? Seems short-sighted to me.
"Vladimir and Natalya Yakunin, who co-sponsored the event through their leadership of the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation, are known to be within President Putins inner circle and are currently under economic sanctions from the United States and the European Union". These people are under sanctions from OUR government because they are pro-life, pro-family and anti- LBGt or whatever the Hell it is. I side with the Russians on this one.
There is an old saying that could pertain to Putin.
When faced with a choice of a skunk, would you rather have the skunk on the inside of the tent spraying out or on the outside spraying in?
There are Lutheran Synods in Russia. One of them has a pastor whom I send support to (he has some health issues that had to be taken care of in Europe).
Even with the dust up in the Ukraine, the Lutheran’s have been for the most part ignored. But there have been Lutheran’s in Russia for a long time.
Evangelicals are viewed as tools of the US, and not welcome. Catholics are ancient enemies from 1054, and treated as such.
Also remember to the Russian Orthodox (like the old school Roman Catholics) if you are not Orthodox, you are NOT Christian. You are at best a pagan, at worst a heretic.
These people are under sanctions from our government and a slew of other governments because their leader invaded and occupied another country. How Christian is that?
In fact my city alone has a Methodist and a Catholic Churches, first is American-run and the latter related to a US consulate. There is a huge Armenian apostolic Cathedral, Synagogue and two Mosques.
Are their state permits prominently displayed by the front door?
I haven’t paid attention but I don’t think houses of worship needs any, unless they are into licensed activities.
Who do you think gives them permission to conduct Sunday Mass?
They sure liberated the world from nazi domination in ww2.
LOL, once they ended their alliance with the Nazis they fought on our side, and they didn’t liberate anyone, they enslaved everyone they could, until we stopped them.
First we had to save Berlin with the Berlin Airlift and then we all had to form NATO to keep the Russians from conquering the rest of the world, and then generations of us served in the Cold War and in the deadly proxy wars in a desperate attempt to slow their global conquest.
We finally beat you guys in 1991, but here you are again, still doing what you always do.
Putin is the only one I think that qualifies. We'll need his courage, intellect and conservatism to defend agains the western worlds' march against faith and family, and its' ultimate sell out to domination by Islamists. .
Can you think of any other as qualified?
He's stuck in your craw because of your hatred of the old time Russians and now because he's reacting to an NATO army we are putting on his border.
You really are one sick puppy.
There is no question that you have mental issues.
"I would not be interested in the idea of becoming president of Russia at a time when the country would be developing normally," he told France's Le Monde newspaper, according to AFP.
"But if it appeared necessary to overcome the crisis and to carry out constitutional reform, the essence of which would be to redistribute presidential powers in favor of the judiciary, parliament and civil society, then I would be ready to take on this part of the task," he added.

Like in Korea. South Korea is still there, without the Russians and so is Vietnam. Mostly all stupid efforts as the USSR was doomed to failure, with or with out the bloodshed.
The most stupid is Carter's boycotting the Olympics and top it off, Reagan supporting the headchopping Islamists against the USSR who were doing essentially what we are doing now in Afghan and Iraq.
Our role in destroying Serbia is nothing to brag about. You need a no thumbs on scale to judge what's been going on in the world and not be constantly ranting that their has been no change since the USSR became the the new democratic Russia.
