Husain Abdullah is a devout Muslim. He’s also a safety for the Chiefs, and he made a promise to himself if he ever did find himself in the end zone.

“If I get a pick, I’m going to prostrate before God in the end zone,” Abdullah said.

Early in the fourth quarter, Abdullah dropped deep in a zone coverage, read Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s eyes and broke hard, intercepting his pass...

What’s Muslim got to do with the issue?

I don’t understand the “slide” he did. Was it after he was already in the endzone? Or was it part of his getting into the endzone & scoring? If it was after he already scored, then it’s a penalty for celebration and has nothing to do with praying.

Ban that and that means someone like Tim Tebow would be banned for a similar act

:: “If I get a pick, I’m going to prostrate before God in the end zone,” Abdullah said. ::

Here’s a conundrum; what God is he honoring by this display? The God who sent His Son to earth so that “charos” may abide with His creation or, the God who demands the head of those who disagree with that he is sovereign?

I give you Matthew 14: 10-12.

I think it was a judgement call by the official. Apparently, it was the “excessive slide” that drew the penalty.

I saw several ‘celebrations’ that IMHO we could do without.

These guys are supposed to be professionals , and yet they resort to acting like effeminate 12 year olds.

I didn’t see Abdullah’s ‘slide’ so I can’t offer an opinion on it in particular.

“For me, I just got a little too excited,” Abdullah said. “I think it was for the slide.”

Game officials didn’t say anything to Abdullah after the play, but Chiefs coach Andy Reid did when Abdullah came to the sideline.

“He said, ‘You can’t slide,’” Abdullah said.

I don’t think so. This is a nation with a Constitution that clearly says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”. With all the beheadings or threats recently by followers of Islam lately its easy to understand the anger but as Christians we would be hypocrites to not let the player do something we see Christian players do all the time when they raise their finger to the sky and look up.

oh..

>>There are exceptions made for religious expressions, such as Tim Tebow’s prayer while kneeling. But Abdullah may have broken the rule by sliding with both knees into the prayer.

“For me, I just got a little too excited,” Abdullah said. “I think it was for the slide.”

I hate the rule that you can’t celebrate a touchdown.

Early in the fourth quarter

K.C. was up big at this point. This kind of behavior in that circumstance is "rubbing it in".

It's the kind of thing in baseball that would result in Ahmed pulling red threads from his teeth after his next at bat. Or, in hockey, six sutures across the bridge of the nose.

Ignoring the prayer aspect, this act will come back to haunt him.

I agree that these little celebrations are childish, but having said that, it is after all, a game.

Where do I even start...which one do I pick on first...

“Chiefs”
“Muslim”
“Religious freedom”
“Reid saying he can slide in Mecca”

Or, BETTER YET, maybe the title of the next article that follows at the website...

“Chiefs offense gets on a roll thanks to execution, playcalling”

The majority of fans don’t mind all the fruity self-congratulatory prancing and chest slapping after mundane plays. It makes it unwatchable for me, and even if many fans don’t dig that stuff, they still watch. The lowest common denominator fan seems to lap it up, the NFL has only become more popular since the swishy celebration became routine. Modern era football has no element of cool players self policing the game, and that should be a big element of any sport in my opinion.

Yup, no one wants 90+ anywhere. Its bad enough when it happens by accident, no reason to give anyone a reason to do it on purpose to you or a team mate on account of your jerkitude. Sadly, most NFL fans have no problem with this crappola, many of them really dig it like pro-wrestling or something.

Be looking for CAIR to join NOW in calling for Roger Goodell's head over this.

Figuratively speaking of course.

The National Football League is not Congress. They can make any rules they want regarding what can and cannot be done on the field.
