Husain Abdullah is a devout Muslim. He’s also a safety for the Chiefs, and he made a promise to himself if he ever did find himself in the end zone.

“If I get a pick, I’m going to prostrate before God in the end zone,” Abdullah said.

Early in the fourth quarter, Abdullah dropped deep in a zone coverage, read Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s eyes and broke hard, intercepting his pass...

I’m torn. What if his celebration included beheading Belichek? Hmmmm...

Without reading all the comments ahead of mine I’m going to assume that someone has already mentioned the possibility of the officiating crew getting beheaded for dissing the religion of peace.

As a die hard Chief’s fan I hope Abdullah gets flagged for this again and again and again this year.

This kind of behavior in that circumstance is "rubbing it in".

Against the Patriots? No such thing.

What’s Muslim got to do with the issue?

Tim Tebow was not fined for taking the Christian prayer stance in the end zone. OTOH, all the celebrations shenanigans in general, end zone and otherwise, will continue until the NFL players themselves begin to chide their fellow players when they act like it is somehow unusual for them to accomplish what they are being paid to accomplish.

When asked why he does not celebrate a td Walter Peyton said, “I act like I have been there before and I will be there again”, or something like that.

In modern era NFL the cool players can’t or won’t police the jerks. That’s the nature of the game today, modern officiating + a penalty sysytem, a million camera angles, and only 16 games meaning so much $ for everyone. It’s up to players, and they get drafted from a super-popular farm system that makes it hard to weed out the jerks before they make it to the big show. So they have excessive celebration rules suitable for 2nd graders.

If baseball only played 16 games they might not stick someone when they are acting jerky either. 162 games makes it much easier to make your point when it’s not going to cost you.

Antonio Brown got fined for the same thing, and he is not a Muslim.

Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 (d) states 'players are prohibited from engaging in any celebrations or demonstrations while on the ground.' However, the officiating mechanic in this situation is not to flag a player who goes to the ground as part of religious expression, and as a result, there should have been no penalty on the play."

Isn’t a football made of pig skin? Or have they changed it so as not to offend moslem players.

I just watched the video of this ‘goal line celebration’ and I have to say it was NOTHING like the ones I have seen before.

I mean that literally, it was NOTHING.

He slid. Gee, imagine that. The laws of physics apply even to football players.

After he stopped, he bent over and touched his head to the ground. I think I would do the same thing. I might even be praying to God in that instant.

I saw no actual ‘celebration’ at all.

I did see other parts of the game and saw players performing very animated and lengthy ‘celebrations’ and yet there was no flag.

I don’t get it.

Apparently, it was the “excessive slide” that drew the penalty.

The only way he could have 'stopped' sooner was to have plowed his own face into the turf.

He took the ball to the ground and slid until he came to a stop. I don't see how he could have avoided sliding or shortened the slide , unless he had retro rockets or something.

I have no problem with celebrations when a plan succeeds, however, if your ‘exuberant display’ goes on for more than 5 seconds, you are no longer a football player, you are a cheerleader.
