If Christians Don’t Vote, More Christians Will Be Persecuted
Townhall ^ | 11/1/2014 | Joy Overbeck

Posted on 11/02/2014 4:41:39 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Mike Huckabee said on his show recently that only about 40 million of the 80 million evangelical Christians in America are even registered to vote. Only about half of those actually vote in presidential elections and only half of them, about 10 million, vote in midterms like the important election coming up Nov. 4. His numbers seem pretty accurate according to various sources, yet nearly 80 percent of Americans say they’re Christians.

As is often observed, if you don’t vote, you can’t complain. If Christians don’t vote in this election and help turn this country back to our Founders’ faith-based values we can’t whine when the government steals more of our religious freedoms like this:

If Christians voted in greater numbers for principled Christian leaders, from school board to Senator, these abuses of our religious liberty would cease. Here’s what George Washington had to say about it: “I earnestly pray that the Omnipotent Being who has not deserted the cause of America in the hour of its extremist hazard, will never yield so fair a heritage of freedom a prey to "Anarchy" or "Despotism."

Washington and the Founders had had enough of despotism; it’s the reason they revolted against England. From the beginning, ours is the only nation in the world ever to declare in its founding documents that the fundamental rights of man come from God, not government or king.

Anyone who doubts America’s foundation as a Christian nation has only to read the Declaration of Independence, written by Jefferson who liberals actually claim as an unbeliever. The Declaration calls upon the Deity three times and at the end declares upon “a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence,” another word used for God at the time.

I wonder if some Christians have a “conscientious objection” to voting because they see Jesus as more involved in the next world than this one. But Jesus said he came into the world to change it, and that required some aggressive worldly action such as taking a whip to the corruption of the money lenders in the temple.

Jesus was a very political guy: he boldly confronted the “government” of his time, the Jewish religious leaders of the Sanhedrin ruling council. He engaged in civil disobedience and strongly criticized these rulers for ignoring the people and caring only about their self-interest. If he could have voted, he would have voted to throw the Sanhedrin out.

Many Christians may think there’s no need to vote because the Lord is coming soon through the clouds to sweep us out of here and into his holy presence. But Christians have believed that ever since Jesus departed through those same clouds, over 2,000 years ago. Christ himself told us that “nobody knows the day or hour” but the guessing game continues.

Other Christians believe that since “God is control” we should stand passively by and let God work things out. But if the Christian founders of this nation would have believed that misinterpretation of scripture, they would never have revolted against England, the mightiest power of their time.

They did it in order to establish a new nation, one that would give its citizens unique privileges: freedom of religious belief, freedom of thought, freedom to worship, and freedom to speak out against rulers’ oppression. All of these are under fire today. Keeping those freedoms means being “the light of the world” as Jesus instructed his believers; it means voting November 4.

What? “Christians” like Catholics, Episcopalians, Methodists, Lutherans, etc. who vote overwhelmingly Democratic/Socialist?

Watch the movie, “Persecuted”.

While it’s a bit melodramatic, it shows how phony some “Christians” are. They even “pray” and call upon the name of the Lord, but their behavior and their love for the things of this world betray them.

Huckabee is referring to those who are self-identified “born-again” Christians.

According to him, there are 80 million in the USA ( roughly 1/4 of the population ), of which only HALF are registered to vote, and of which only a quarter of those registered bother to vote in the midterms.

If Christians stay home they are not following the idea of Pray and take some positive action toward change.

Laziness, Apathy and Ignorance tend to hand the Elections to the Democrats.

Search out www.123vote.com and the iPledge Youtube Video.

PRAY and Get out and VOTE! You Country is at stake.

I’ve not forgotten this summer when we were being kicked around by Huckabee and others like him. We’re going to call you Racist, homophobes, backwards, holding the country hostage, we’re going to cheat to defeat your candidates, but you better vote for us in November. If you don’t, Christians will be persecuted and puppies will be gassed. Of course I’m going to vote, but not for my worthless GOP rep or senator.

Then give Christians someone they can vote for.

Sick rinos do not get their votes and never will.

A little persecution now and then is good for the soul.

Stand firm in our faith and follow the Lord’s lead.

Like Peter in the garden, we must do as He asks, not as our human conscience desires.

In each instance the author mentioned, we can and should use these episodes of persecution to evangelize.

For example:

The Little Sisters could stop providing health care and spend that money instead on outreach and mission work spreading the Gospel. POWERFUL statement of faith at work.

Hitching Post Wedding Chapel should make a portion of EVERY ceremony a description of what Christian marriage is and its origin....including every scripture condemning homosexuality and extolling virtue. Be sure to include that we are saved from our sin, not in it. How many Gays or Lez’s will line up for that ceremony?

The IRS and churches....the only power the IRS has over churches is that of the tax deduct-ability of member donations....a weak weapon indeed...drop the non-profit status and be wholly free from the rat bastards and speak the truth shouting it from the roof tops.

The baker could put appropriate scripture on EVERY pastry and invoice that extolls virtue. Let them choke on it and let it lay sour in their stomach.

Our children should flee the government schools in their millions to be educated in the church schools. It is easier to do today than in 140+ years with home schooling clubs everywhere and charter schools in many states.

Bottom line.

Persecution will harden the body of Christ.

Persecution will turn an insecure, whining, flabby, mewing milieu of “go alongs/get alongs” into a hard core disciplined and confident army of God peopled by true soldiers of Christ roaring like lions.

Let the minions of Hell hammer away. Let the weak be burned and beaten away. Let the heat and fire forge the faithful into a sharp sword of the Lord whose edge does not dull.

Sure, get out and vote.

But we have far more powerful tools at our disposal. If we truly stand with God, who can stand against us?

But that is just my opinion and what the heck do I know.

Contrary to what the author might want, Christians have no duty to vote at all, let alone to vote for the party of Nero over the party of Caligula.

80 million evangelical Christians...

That is NOT "just" those whom the Liberals call "The Christian Right". That number includes all Black Baptists who go to church on Sunday to sing, shout, dance, clap their hands and fall out in the Spirit, and then go to the voting booth on Tuesday and vote for a Party that espouses killing little unborn babies and same/sex marriage. That number also includes the professing Christians who might, or might not, have any strong convictions.

On my way out the door to church right now so can’t write much but… there are many issues with this article - several commented upon already. I doubt that 80%, Huckabee is not a reliable source (IMO), Jesus told his disciples when his return would be - the “any moment” nonsense does not fit with what the Bible teaches and what the early church fathers believed (”after the tribulation of those days, antichrist in temple declares himself God, the Great Tribulation of antichrist begins, martyrdom of believers, everlasting Gospel of the Kingdom preached by the 3 angels warning those on earth not to take the mark, the sun, moon, stars go out, THEN “lift up your heads because your redemption draws near”, after wrath of God falls on Day of the Lord judgement). Politics will not save America. Ted Cruz (and I’d love to see him as pres.) will not save America. Our problems are moral/sinful and we need to repent as a nation as well as “vote correctly” but somehow voting correctly always seems to come WAY ahead of repentance for most politicians. Most want America “saved” so they can continue their comfortable life style not so they can give it ALL for the Savior and lay down their lives even unto death. Yes, I believe we should get out and vote our conscience but regardless of whoever is in Washington our calling doesn’t change as believers. We exhault the Savior, equip the saints and evangelize the world. Jesus warned us of what is coming. We may be able to delay it to a degree but it will come. If the dragon can’t gobble up the child of the woman, remember, he goes after her off spring - Christians. There, flame away!

no one.

Faith wothout works is dead.

We need to be reminded of that NOW perhaps more than at any time in recent history.

A few devout Christians I know are so absorbed in their religion that they really have no idea what is going on in the real world and hide behind religion rather than take up the voting battle.

Faith without works is dead.

Exactly.

This is why I have ZERO respect for most of the "Christians" I have encountered.

God gave us this great republic.

It is like the story of the talents.

God gives us a brain with which to think and a body with which to act.

If we do neither with those gifts, we are spitting in his face.

I imagine God looks upon those to lazy to learn about what's going on around them, and too lazy to get off their rears and do something as simple and easy as voting as a waste of his great gifts.

Why do we get RINOs to vote for?

Because too many people pay no attention to primaries.

They'll spend their time listening to some idiot "preacher" proclaiming, "there's something wrrrroooonnnnggg with this world", then do absolutely nothing to right it.

I've about had it with most "Christians".

Maybe I'll become a Muslim.

With them, the religion and the government are the same.

With a Caliphate you don't have to waste your time voting.

Churches should publish voting guides with candidates that most closely match their doctrines.

I really hate the threat the left has used to control non-black churches (they just don’t care and have never been confronted over open campaigning in their churches) over politics by using the IRS and tax exempt status.
