“5. Man has a natural desire to live forever.”
That sounds more like wishful thinking than a proof.
I agree. Not everybody wants to live on for an eternity.
Mark for later. Thanks for posting.
Most people do make efforts to prolong their lives and flee death, as well as yearn for ways to make their lives meaningful and memorable to others. But there are a handful who would consider this merely to be raw instinct brought about by a felicitous collision of matter. The biblical texts, properly understood, shed a great deal of light on what otherwise is more difficult than seeing through a mug of stout.
Heavy & contentious topic. :) There is a concept of “Karma” in Hindu tradition. In Persian/Zoroastrian is called “Kar_e Maah” (result of our actions/deeds). It’s part of Natural Law. What attracts & what repels. Re-incarnation, as in coming back to Earth, being part of material life, as we know it? I’m not so sure. But, personally I believe there is a distinction between soul and body; the former may just move on..
My intellect constantly reflects on that. Oh, I thought it said lack of knowledge.
thx
I’ve experienced a number of things in my life that seemed to take an eternity. Eternity is overrated, that’s for sure, and largely a product of fear of Death. I think Freud had some things to say on the fear of Death, if anyone is interested in searching the matter and exercising the sentience given to them at birth.
Dont usually read any of the religious posts but this is an accurate comment from my perspective..... and you can sure get roasted on this site for saying things like that.
Bump for later
Christianity is the one faith and philosophy that can save mankind. There is no other faith or belief that gives itself out of love such a level of forgiveness.Islam is the anti Christ.
AMEN to that!
Will translate both into “trite:”
1.) There are some people who think only in materialist terms.
2.) Without the biblical texts one can only grope for Truth.
being separated from family and friends through death usually upsets everyone. Living here with disease and evil, no thanks. Being with loved ones, in love, joy, and peace plus being with God where nothing we know now applies (new science) sounds like fun to me.
“The FALSE DOCTRINE of the “immortality of the soul””
Good post yosemitest.
The article begins at length about the existence of God. It should then turn to God’s word to support its premise. There are more verses to refute this idea than what yosemitest provided. I suggest anyone really interested in the topic read this book. Given the verses already provided and this resource, I don’t see any point in adding to it. Those really interested in truth will pursue on their own.
