Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Character Studies From The Bible

Noah

New International Version (NIV)

20 Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. 21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent. 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside. 23 But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father’s naked body. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father naked. 24 When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said,

“Cursed be Canaan!

    The lowest of slaves
will he be to his brothers.”

26 He also said,

“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem!

May Canaan be the slave of Shem.

27 May God extend Japheth’s territory;

may Japheth live in the tents of Shem,

and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.”

28 After the flood Noah lived 350 years. 29 Noah lived a total of 950 years, and then he died.”

(Genesis 9)

Dear Heavenly Father,
We Praise Your Name.
You Alone Are Holy,
Wonderful, and Glorious.
Thank You For Giving Us Your Word,
Which, though sometimes is puzzling,
Always has something to teach us.

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According to Your Will and Promise.
We Pray For the People and Leaders of Israel,
that They Will Look to You for the Protection
and Prosperity of their Nation.
We Also Pray For Revival in our own Beloved USA.

We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

It would be a big mistake to do a Character Study of Noah and omit this embarrassing story.
This event happened long before the giving of the Law, but there are certain moral principles that should be observed by all, even without The Ten Commandments written in stone.

The most obvious one is "Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother." Instead of discreetly honoring his father by covering him, Ham left him in his nakedness and gossiped about him to his brothers! That was a profound breach of respect, especially after what the whole family had just experienced!

There is also a clue as to the term "Uncovered" that is used in the opening line of this story. This does not mean "nude" but something else, and is the term that is used later in Leviticus to describe illicit sexual activity. I don't even want to speculate about what that was, as it is not recorded in Scripture, as perhaps it should not be.

The point of the whole story is that Ham was profoundly disrespectful of his elderly, weak, and incapacitated Father, who had just, a season earlier, saved his life! The Canaanites, who were descended from Ham's son Canaan were known for their sexual immorality and have been a thorn in the side of Israel ever since.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Prayer is powerful, to the one praying and others. When we pray in faith for others, God knows and our prayer is a positive in the world. Let us sincerely pray for peace, love, kindness, goodness, healing and for forgiveness of our transgressions. We all sin and we pray to be forgiven and to be led in truth of God’s Word. Show Faith and happiness in this world where ever we are, in Jesus name amen.
