Communion Alone is ‘Not the Solution’ for Divorced and Re-Married Catholics, Says Pope Francis
The Catholic Herald (UK) ^ | 12/8/14 | Madeleine Teahan

Pope Francis has given an exclusive interview to the Argentine daily La Nacion

Holy Communion is not the solution to the pastoral challenges facing divorced and re-married Catholics, Pope Francis has said.

In an interview with the Argentine daily newspaper, La Nacion, in which he discussed the family synod, the challenges of his papacy and reforming the Roman Curia, Pope Francis said: “In the case of divorcees who have remarried, we posed the question, what do we do with them? What door can we allow them to open? This was a pastoral concern: will we allow them to go to Communion? Communion alone is no solution.

“The solution is integration. They have not been excommunicated, true. But they cannot be godfathers to any child being baptised, mass readings are not for divorcees, they cannot give Communion, they cannot teach Sunday school, there are about seven things that they cannot do, I have the list over there. Come on! If I disclose any of this it will seem that they have been excommunicated in fact. Thus, let us open the doors a bit more.”

The Pope continued: “Why can’t they be godfathers and godmothers? ‘No, no, no, what testimony will they be giving their godson?’ The testimony of a man and a woman saying ‘my dear, I made a mistake, I was wrong here, but I believe our Lord loves me, I want to follow God, I was not defeated by sin, I want to move on’. Anything more Christian than that? And what if one of the political crooks among us, corrupt people, are chosen to be somebody´s godfather. If they are properly wedded by the Church, would we accept them? What kind of testimony will they give to their godson? A testimony of corruption? Things need to change, our standards.....

I reject that Priests can give an annulment for a marriage that happened before God, who was in attendance.

Maybe you should read the Bible....’do not be deceived’ as it says in verse 26 and moving on to I John 2:27 you will find that the Holy Spirit will teach you the Word of God.

So I am not problem, it is a lack of reading God’s word that is the problem....

Scripture is interpreted correctly when all verses pertaining to a subject are compares and studied....The Bible will interpret itself to you, as you allow the Holy Spirit (Comforter) to show you. Keep listening to other men/pastors/priests and those who can be deceived and you will end up in HELL>..read it for yourself, you may be surprised what’s in there.

Just because some idiot at Forbes writes an article saying Hitler was left does not make him a historian, anymore than you standing in a garage makes you a car!

.....Yet strange enough, we have politicos who by their support for abortion, have NO problem waltzing down to recieve Jesus in Holy Communion which is so very wrong, yet some bishops let them walk.

In Catholic theology (I know...you have no time for it), marriage is a sacrament. Like all sacraments (there are 7), certain conditions must be met for the sacrament to be valid.

An annulment is simply a judgement that some of those conditions were not met and therefore the sacrament was invalid.

I am not a Catholic critic - so can your paranoia.

As for grace, you surely don’t even know what it’s all about. You are in heated surrounding calling grace “twisted.” You are not even considering the difference between a marriage of Christians versus a marriage of people who are not Christian versus those who are mixed versus those who later accept Christ. ALL THINGS ARE BECOME NEW.........ALL THINGS.....NEW...........

Pope Francis ought to go back and renew his confirmation vows. He promised then to be a soldier of Christ. That meant to not be soft, liberal-brained, and goofy.

One has to stand up for what is right. We cannot be guided by flighty feelings. Jesus was clear about divorce. Homosexuals are doing something that is wrong. Hold the line. Do not be misled.

“The Bible will interpret itself to you”

I wonder what notion could have sent more souls to Hell than this one.

Deut 29:29 and

2 Timothy 3:15, 16, 17

…15and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

The theology of marriage is "legalism"?

it can be - it’s the application. Your interpretation of it would be legalistic, indeed, at least as it should apply to some cases.

This is what happens when you assume everyone in a certain church is saved (never been the case in all of history) and when you worship a religion, and not a Savior.

In Fulton Sheen’s book Communism and the Conscience of the West he states that Satan will make an ape of the Church that will LOOK like the Church but be devoid of divine content. Isn’t this focus on poverty and social “justice” to the exclusion of the overwhelming spiritual poverty a heresy.
