The German Bishops Conference addressed itself to a long process of talks about marriage and family by giving plenty of room for the local church. The chairman of the German Bishops' Conference, Cardinal Reinhard Marx (Munich-Freising) underlined in the context of the Family Synod in autumn the efforts of the bishops for "new approaches" and to "help ensure that doors are opened". In the universal Church, there is "a certain expectation" of Germany. He hoped that some issues would be addressed before the Synod, Marx told journalists n Hildesheim on Tuesday.
The Archbishop of Munich and Freising assumes after the Synod that a Commission would be further concerned with the relevant issues. Theological questions about marriage and family as well as on sexual morality could not be answered in a mere three weeks. "My hope is that then this results in a further discussion." The Synod must find a text that "would lead to further progress" in the discussion and also find a common position on fundamental issues. As far as teaching is concerned, one remains in communion with the Church, in individual issues of pastoral care, "the Synod cannot prescribe in detail of what we have to do in Germany". Therefore, the bishops wanted to publish their own pastoral letter on marriage and family after the Synod. The office of the bishops is not to wait for permits. "We are not just a subsidiary of Rome. Each Episcopal Conference is responsible for the pastoral care in their culture, and has to proclaim the Gospel as their very own office. We cannot wait until a synod state something, as we have here to undertake in this place marriage and family ministry. "

After the Synod, there will be more discussions, commissions etc., and eventually we'll get what we want. If we don't get it, we'll simply do our own thing anyway.
I wonder if the Catholic Church will experience a new schism if the German Bishops don’t get their way.
Kind of like what happened with Martin Luther. I think the German Bishops are way out of line. The German opera stage designers too - maybe it is Germany??
Hitler, Nietzsche, and Marx etc.. makes you wonder about the Germans. What say you Germans.
That may be the best case scenario.
If we do not get a new Pope and a strong Conservative Pope soon I fear a major schism.
We need not change the Church. There are plenty of dying Protestant churches people can be openly divorced, remarried and even involved in church sponsored sodomy. The Church of Rome need not find room for them in their pews.
It is difficult to get to Heaven. Most of us will not. That is written. Without following the faith, we are doomed to eternal damnation. Bishops are double damned when they deny the teachings of Christ and his Church.
The church has been through much worse than this. Believe it.
What would be an example of the Church being through much worse than the post Vatican II era? I think the closest would be the Arian days, but even then no Church Council jump started that mess.
Has Francis ever reprimanded this group? Or is he still just wagging fingers at those traditionalists who actually follow the Faith?

While on the subject of “opened ... doors”, one would think the German Bishops would be more interested in getting more than 10.8% of German Catholics (according to their own 2014 report) through them for obligatory Mass on the weekends.
