Why do Catholics harp on the “truth” of their church, rather than the truth of Christ?

Ding, Ding, Ding! WE HAVE A WINNER!

Everytime their is a name change there is a change in time and status. All these linguistic gymnastics are a relatively new line of thinking...and didn’t exist for the first...say 1500 years of the church. Weird how people keep referring the the founding cathers and their writings to best understand the constitutions meaning...yet the same deference is not given to the earliest fathers of the Church...

This is the truth of Christ. Christ gave Peter the Keys of the Kingdom, telling him to “Feed my sheep,” “Tend my sheep,” and “Feed my Lambs.”

But how did that establish the Papacy?

Just curious, really.

It didnt exist for the first 150 years, either, funny how it all started about the time of Constantine...

That commission from the Bible is for all Christians to obey.

Shouldn’t you be handling a snake or something?

And by the way, Peter, comes from the Latin word for rock. Jesus built his church on the rock, Peter.

Live with it. Or not. As I am right, I can invite you into the true faith, or you can flounder around in the dark. Your call.

Christ gave it directly to Peter. Please read that section again.

Just stating the facts.

Peter was forgiven and that is what is important.

Spot on. I cannot recall the last Catholic Masss I attended where the subject was, “Just look how awful those and Pentecostals ND Methodists are”...

And,of course you continue in the same vein. Yall are like Bill Clinton and parsing out the fantasy nuance of what the alternate meaning of “is” is.It’s as real as that other extreme of Political Correctness.

Exactly. Meanwhile, Islam advances.

The sad reality is not if, but when, we are attacked again, it will not matter what church we belonged to in the eyes of the Islamofacists.

Indeed. I sometimes wonder if obama has lurkers on FR. I bet they laugh their butts off at these threads. They would be so happy to see conservatives deviate from the real issues.

“Just look how awful those and Pentecostals ND Methodists are”...

Of all the many, many sermons I have heard, I have never heard ONE say anything negative about the Roman Church.

An outstanding exegesis. It is so clear in the scriptures, so res ipsa loquitor, that I am sadly reminded of our Jewish brothers and sisters, who had eyes, but could not see and ears, but could not hear.

Why are you sad for Jews? Are they damned if they die without Jesus?

The truth is meant to be examined, tested, debated.

That is what conservatives do. We dig for the truth.

Examination of the facts (their faith, if you will...and yes even atheists have faith) is verboten to liberals and muslims.

If they did test their faith, they would discover they are wrong...and that cannot be permitted.

This is very similar to the Mormon interpretation, who is that the rock referred to by Jesus was the rock of revelation.

Peter comes from the Latin... so what? The NT is written in Greek. Christ built his church on.... CHRIST. He is the Cornerstone. I can't help it if Rome has taught heresy and others believe it.

As for you being right, well, that's certainly a matter of opinion. You're wrong, but go ahead and keep believing as you will. Faith in Christ saves, not faith in a cult.
