Organized religion can be its own worst enemy.

Deceptive headline: the stat refers to one in four who do not attend church.

Not believing in churches would be a more appropriate reaction.

Surprised it’s not 3 out of 4.

Agnostics should not be lumped together with atheists.

There’s hope for agnostics.

True. There’s no reason you can’t reject religion (what people say about God) and still believe in God. I don’t think anybody has it 100% right about God, because people cannot comprehend the infinite.

I fall into the category of lack of trust in Churches. The article itself points out that current church practices are a “social service” industry with a focus on fund raising. The true “relationship” is with God and obedience to his commands. Which acts we are to perform are set out in scripture. Performance of the latter will probably go a long way towards solving a lot of our ordinary “relationships.”

The entire article is very sloppily written.

Sorry to see it happening, but modern knowledge doesn’t agree with a seven day Bible creation story.

As other studies have also found, younger people are more likely to be skeptics than older people. Barna says that today, 34 percent of all skeptics are younger than 30.

Go to your average church which caters to young people. They get everything they want -- their rock-band music, no liturgy, no sense of tradition, and as often as not a pastor who doesn't bother dressing up to go to work (as in my church).

They get everything they want, except for the foundations of Christian tradition which give religion meaning. They get bored, and they move on to the next.

No wonder they're skeptics.

What would make you trust a local church?

It is up to each of us to find a sound biblical church to belong to. It requires investigation on the part of the believer in order to make this decision .

Prophecy's full-filled..... “the love of God going cold” just as Jesus said it would.

Barna reached out to 23,000 churched and unchurched adults for the study...

Off topic: Why do they say "reached out" when they mean "contacted". For some reason that phrase just rubs me the wrong way. I "reach out" to grab the ketchup bottle at lunch. I "contact" my grandmother once a week.

John 6:44”No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. 45”It is written in the prophets, ‘AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT OF GOD.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me.…

I'm thinking on it. I will not enter a mainstream Presbyterian Church favoring sodomites; as St. Paul advises "Come out from among them." "What have Christians to do with Belial?" That much I know.

“Sorry to see it happening, but modern knowledge doesn’t agree with a seven day Bible creation story.”

I’ve also noticed.

Younger people have a social life largely based on social media so they’re not as subject to pressure from local norms as exclusively as they once were.

And because of that they don’t bend to pressure from outside their group as much as they once did.

We have 3 former athiests attending our church right now. All 3 were saved just in the last year. One you would never haved guessed he was an athiest before. In one of our Sunday School lessons he said that he always felt there was a God but didnt want to admit it because of his friends who were also athiests. He also said that other athiests sometimes felt that way but would never admit it for fear of ridicule and that atheism was like a religion in itself....
