This author, Mary Rezac, points out that there have already been FOUR major pushes in the past 50 years --- since the Second Vatican Council --- to get the Catholic Church to abandon Her constant teaching on Marriage and the Eucharist. Interesting that, although the dissenters have been ever-more-decisively "shut down" by Popes Paul V, John Paul II, and Benedict XVI, they never quite give up: they always come back demanding more argument, more "dialogue," more wiggle-room, couched as "pastoral practice."
Will Pope Francis will remain steady on doctrine? I think he will and must. That's the good news.
The bad news is that the dissenters probably know they can't formally change doctrine. Their strategy, at this point, will probably be to nod and mumble through any restatement of sound doctrine, BUT claim the liberty to adopt "pastoral practices" not in conformity with the doctrine. Cardinal Walter Kasper will pour on the smooth, buttery bafflegab on this "German Solution" strategy.
At 82, let's hope this will be his last bafflegab.
Oremus. Watch and pray.
I agree. I married a Jewish man, so no communion for me. I accept that. I have gone to church every morning this week at different parishes, and also participated in the Adoration of the Eucharist today. I want to keep the Catholic church and my faith strong.
May this synod be the 5th time!
“the Church”? You mean Ekklesia ?
Thank you for posting this. My faith has been weak as of late in trusting the Holy Spirit to protect the Church from error under this pope.
Unless you or your husband were previously married (or are incestuously related), I believe that you may still be able to receive a dispensation to regularize your marriage. I would recommend you discuss this with a knowledgeable priest.
So... only Catholics like the Kennedys who can pay huge amounts of to the Church for an “annulment” can get remarried.
Sorta like selling “indulgences.”
Shut down by Paul VI.
Shut down by JP II.
Shut down by Benedict XVI.
And now being pushed by Francis.
Sorry, I’m not getting this, communion is between you and God, no one else.
Not true.
Where do you get these faulty ideas?
Where do you think? Perhaps it's from the same Church that reversed a Kennedy annulment.
Yes, my husband was previously married and had children. But before that we were college sweethearts, and I never married, until he came back to me. He attended church with me on Easter, but he does not accept Jesus.
Thank-you for your concern. Happy Easter!
Are you not concerned about your husband’s salvation?
I think you have hit on something useful. Instead of avoiding the bishop of the Tucson diocese, as I have, and not being fully there when it comes to blessing the pope during Mass, I should beseech the Holy Spirit to bring this pope wisdom and pray a better more committed Catholic pope is waiting in the wings soon to strengthen the foundation of His church.
I’m not a Catholic....
But, if that’s the churches doctrine then why do so many wish to change it. The church says “no communion for non-annulled and remarried”. Accept it an move on or stop being a catholic.
Those are your choices. I support the church in their initiatives to keep married couples..married. If they relent on this, then it changes the whole culture of what the church advocates. I respect the Catholic Church for sticking to it’s guns on these sorts of issues.
If you want to be a catholic, then be a catholic. Own it...all the way. If you can’t, then don’t be a catholic. Seems kind of simple.
We pray together twice a day. It is a constant concern.
I wish you well.
Yeah crazy stuff. Remarried? Burn in hell. Abortion supporting liberal, salvation..
Did you have ham for Easter dinner?
(Sorry, couldn't help myself)
Given the terrible problems your denomination is having with its leadership, denying the Lord’s Supper to individuals who want to seek God seems the least of your problems...
As an example...

There are many more I could post. Those seem far more important issues, that if not changed will end what is left of the Roman Denomination.
