Sen. Charles E. Schumer of New York, the Senate’s No. 3 ranking Democrat, is turning to the head of the Catholic Church for a little help with policy. “If they won’t listen to @SenateDems maybe they’ll listen to @Pontifex when it comes to #equalpay #FairShot,” Mr. Schumer tweeted Wednesday. Schumer also linked to an article from The Washington Post in which Pope Francis said Wednesday the fact that a pay disparity exists between men and women is “pure scandal.”

The Pope and the Senator might both be surprised to learn that equal pay for equal work has been the law since the Civil Rights Act of 1964. We don’t need any new law or policy.
The obvious reason that pay disparity exists is that men and women are not exactly equal! To those who argue that they are, including the Pope, I would ask why there are no female Catholic priests and why a woman has never been elected Pope!

I’m getting worried about the guy and I’m not even Roman Catholic. He’s pulled the dignity of his stewardship over the Roman church behind two gross misrepresentations with this and the “climate change.” This ain’t even an issue of classic Catholic vs. classic evangelical takes on Christian faith, as strained as the differences between those are. These are cockamamie in any book.
The priesthood has nothing to do with pay disparity. Sheesh.
And pay and working conditions are not the same in Pakistan and Dubai as they are in Pennsylvania and Delaware.
