"One the other hand, I will testify that I have also learned a great deal in these conflicts. And I have come to moments of such deep appreciation of what God has done for me in Christ it has given me a blessing of praise and giving glory to God."Amen to that! I read most every thread on the RF and there are many gems to be had if you can stand the heat in the kitchen.
"So I think if all you are seeing is bitterness and acrimony, you may be missing some important aspects of what goes on here."
It's been said here many times that all this so-called bickering distracts us from the real threats.ie:islam, isis etc.
I doubt anyone here would deny there is a very large and ugly spiritual war looming. So when I see many arguing for the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice and the assurance believers should have of their salvation over against those who deem said assurance a 'sin of presumption' I can't help but think this is akin to a platoon of soldiers about to go over the top whilst arguing about wether they should wear their helmet.
What goes on here is VERY important and I am gratefull to God for those He has here preaching HIS Word.
By God's grace they know who they are!

Reminds me of the Mormon threads, where they are taught not to answer the question that is asked, but answer the question you want them to ask. NOW they don't even whimper if you strike them!
If the above link does NOT function; try THIS one. Click on the second image.
Timeline... Subject...

2:02 "We really aren't obligated to answer everyone's questions..."
3:57 "You already know MORE about God and Christ and the plan of salvation than any who would ATTACK you."

A. This Sacrifice is called the Mass very probably from the words Ite Missa est, used by the priest as he tells the people to depart when the Holy Sacrifice is ended. PROBABLY???
I'm glad that has been defined since Jesus implemented it!

Rome changes words and meanings and hopes no one notices
'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone,
' it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.'
'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.' 'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master - that's all.' |

They do the sacraments out of love, not to earn their eternal salvation. We PROTS see it THIS way:
They do the sacraments out of fear, to KEEP their eternal salvation; of which they are not sure of to begin with.

Its based on being honest.I hope my mission statement includes this as #1; but I'm afraid that many times I feel like I have to use a 2*4 to get the 'honesty' across.

So, YOU are the judge of millions of Catholics? Jesus is our only judge, you would usurp His authority? Good luck with that. I will pray for you.

It sounds like youre berating the different gospel instead of preaching the gospel. My old math teacher taught me arithmetic; but still pointed out where I had gone wrong in my application of it.

People can fall into the trap of believing they are saved by believing they are saved, rather than simply believing and obeying the Messiah (who gave everyone commandments and will judge us based on them). People can fall into the trap of hoping they are saved by Obeying the CHURCH, rather than simply believing and obeying the Messiah; PERIOD.

Therefore he is, indeed speaking with the authority of God, and it is God, of course, who actually allows the transubstantiationNo; no; NO!
Only Thomas Monson speaks with the authority of God!!!
In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet, for our salvation depends on them.
1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say Thus Saith the Lord, to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by mens reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may advise on civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidencythe highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidencythe living prophet and the First Presidencyfollow them and be blessedreject them and suffer.
I testify that these fourteen fundamentals in following the living prophet are true. If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captainhow close do our lives harmonize with the Lords anointedthe living ProphetPresident of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.
