'We will thank anyone who helps us stay in our country'
ROME - Syrian Catholic Church patriarch Ignatius Ephrem Joseph III Younan has said that he approves of Russia's actions as an attempt to resolve the Syrian conflict and defeat the Islamic State (ISIS). "The Russian intervention gives us a bit of hope in this tragic situation," he said. "Russia has helped Syria a great deal to retake and liberate cities and villages under the control of terrorist groups." "Syrian Christians are grateful to Russia," he said.
"Since it intervened, many things have changed on the ground." "We will thank anyone who helps us to remain in our country," he added, expressing gratitude towards the Russian Orthodox Church for its words of support to local Christian communities, "which we have not received from other parts with the same determination." "Our anguish and our screams of alarm is that something is happening in Iraq and Syria that has already happened in Turkey: Christians are disappearing in the very lands where Christianity was born."

Perhaps Vladimir Putin is more pro-Christian than any of us realize. Not saying that Putin IS a practicing Christian, but he does extend an umbrella of protection for them, which is WAY more than West European or North American leaders are doing.
This is Good news for once in Syria. Thank the Lord for their reprieve.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm
the Islamic terrorists are “fleeing” from Syria..
the Christians are staying...
This is significant. There are millions of Christians in the middle east, and the attitude of Europe and Obama is that they’ll let these people immigrate.
The vast majority don’t WANT to immigrate. They want to stay where they’ve been for 2000 years and more. Why should the middle east be emptied of Christians? Liberals want to eradicate Christians from the land where Christianity was born, whether it’s Syria, Iraq, Lebanon or Israel.
Russia is working to keep Christians in the middle east, Obama and Europe want to relocate them.
This is a case where Russia gets it right.

30 years ago who thought they’d live to see that headline?
How come they couldn’t seek help from the Pope?
truly a sad day
Putin is first, last, and always a KGB commie. He does what helps him out.
Yet at least he is doing what the west should have been doing, standing up for the Christians in the Middle East.
Amen to that.
So true.
I really believe that Putin would DEARLY love to have the position of TSAR reinstated and... OF COURSE he would be Tsar...another Tsar Vladimir.
and more’s the shame for the US
indeed
The Pope does not have an army like he did back in the days when Italy from Florence to Naples was part of the Papal States. Russia has an army and is was the Russian Government under Putin that commenced military action against the ISIS mohammedans. It is probably more accurate to ask where is England, France, Holland, Germany, Italy, i.e. Nato in all this, as well as U.S.
I am not for putting American ground troops in Syria but U.S. airpower could have definitely been used, in my opinion.
