Now The End Begins ^ | January 30, 2016 | Geoffrey Grider

Among the many heresies and outright lies taught by the Word Of Faith movement, the false doctrine that Jesus Christ became born again after suffering in Hell at the hands of the Devil is among the most pernicious. This whopping lie is taught by is taught by Joyce Meyer, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagin, as well as nearly every other false teacher in the Word Of Faith movement.

Fascinating. I have never heard this before, and I have a long-time pen pal who follows these people (and a Mr. CreflonA. “Dollar,” who likes money).

“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” When Jesus said that on the cross, to the thief next to him, I don’t think he was referring to Hell.

This is a great learning moment for everyone to find the definition of the Hebrew and Greek words translated as “hell”.

“When Jesus said that on the cross, to the thief next to him, I don’t think he was referring to Hell.”

No, but check out the Creed:

“[Jesus] he descended into hell.”

it’s not the hell of punishment. http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p122a5p1.htm

1 Peter 3:19 (RSV/CE):

18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit; ****19 in which he went and preached to the spirits in prison,**** 20 who formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water.

It seems that heresies abound with the Word of Faith movement.

I know a fair number of people who follow these guys.

There’s just no talking to them. They get mad if you criticize or even just try to point out the errors in their teaching. The retort is that nobody’s theology is perfect, so we should just ignore the bad and go with what they have is good.

They also accept that anyone who has ever made a verbal profession is saved, no matter how bad their theology or lifestyle. Again, there’s no talking to them about wolves in sheep’s clothing. They won’t accept that anyone who has professed Christ isn’t saved.

I think the author of the article - and the evangelists he quotes in the video - are confusing Hell (of punishment) with Hades/Sheol or the Prison of the Patriarchs.

From some accounts of people who’ve died and came back that we are all going to go through some kind of Hell before we reach Heaven.

A profession of faith is the only requirement. I think catholics may view it differently and may stand to be corrected by one. But for protestants, the profession of faith is it.

Then there other things that follow as the way to live, But the profession is what saves you.

I have been part of the Charismatic movement pretty much for the last 40 years. At times I am more devout, others less. I have watched all these preachers at times over the years, and quite frankly, I have never heard them say any of this hooey.

In fact in my life, I have never heard anyone say that Jesus was born again. Every one of them has talked about how Jesus told Nicodemus, but it was never self directed.

Likewise, I have never heard one preacher say that Jesus suffered in Hell. I have heard several speak of Jesus going to hell and breaking the gates and setting the captives free, but never that he suffered one second of torment in hell.

The article, I would note, attacks some good Christian preachers, but never once quotes any of them saying what they are claiming they are saying. This is not an article on theology so much as one to create FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) about some of the best evangelists of the day.

You’re correct that a profession of faith is the only requirement, but I think what she means is it must be genuine. That many people who claim to be Christians in reality are not can be shown from God’s words, “I never knew you.”

There was 3 days from the time Christ died on the cross to the time he was resurrected....

Where was his spirit for those 3 day?

I have never it taught he went straight to heaven...hung out for 3 days and then came back.

I have heard it taught ...he pay for and carried all our sins with his death...

and that means he made the full sin payment for us of descending into hell....

Our payment for sin is not just death in body.. its on death our spirit descent into hell

Christ was somewhere during the three days from death on the cross to the resurrection.... where was he?.... he was paying for our sins

There was no reason for Jesus to be born again. That refers to a new life replacing a sinful one. Jesus never sinned. He did suffer, though. He suffered the full wrath of God for carrying all the sin of the world so you and I don’t have to.

See Luke 23 and the thief on the cross next to Jesus (as someone pointed out here). Jesus says, today you will be with me in paradise.

And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!” 43 And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”

I am not really familiar with any of those listed except for Joyce Meyer. I’ve enjoyed a lot of what’s she’s written and have heard her speak. I always wonder why she is put into the same category.

I admittedly haven’t watched Joyce Meyer for a few years, but Never did I hear her preach such a thing, nor does she preach the prosperity gospel, something else she has been accused of preaching.
It seems to me that when someone wants to criticize a tv preacher or two, they lump together every evangelist on tv. Heck, i have seen Billy Graham included with these people.
No, they are not ‘all alike’.

I have never heard any of those pastors make such a claim. Where are the sermons that prove it?
