Austin pastor claims Whole Foods cake had homophobic slur

AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — An Austin pastor says a cake he ordered from Whole Foods last Thursday had a homophobic slur written on the top when he received it.

The attorney for Pastor Jordan Brown says he ordered a cake from the Whole Foods store on Lamar Boulevard with the personalized message "Love Wins," but when he received it said "Love Wins F--."

"As a 30-year-old openly gay pastor, I have had to face years of discrimination and judgement for something that I had no control over," Brown says. He explains, that trauma resurfaced Thursday with the incident involving the cake.

In a YouTube video, Pastor Brown says he didn't realize what it said until he got into his vehicle. In the video he shows the box containing the cake was still sealed. Brown says when he told store management what happened they said their employee did not do it and no action would be taken.

Brown's attorney, Austin Kaplan, says after reaching out to the Whole Foods corporate office and receiving no substantive response for more than three days, they filed a lawsuit. "We had no choice but to do this because Whole Foods did not respond when we alerted them about the situation," says Kaplan.

"Pastor Brown never asked for this to happen. He continues to be overwhelmed by the feelings of pain, anguish, and humiliation because of this incident," says Kaplan. "He frequently shopped at Whole Foods, which makes this all the more shocking and disappointing. What really concerns him is knowing that unless some action is taken, this kind of thing could happen again, and that someone else might have to go through a similarly excruciating experience."

When Paul list off those who will not enter the Kingdom he quickly follows it with: and such were some of you. The “were” is extremely important because it speaks to having repented of the sin. That doesn’t mean no more struggles but it certainly means that you cannot actively and openly continue in that sin, especially go so far as to think that it plays a central role in how you define yourself as a person.

Anyone who is “openly gay”, who defines themselves by that aberrant sexuality, has not repented from their sins. They remain in what might be called the: and such are you still category.

That such persons are all too common just goes to reinforce that we are in a Romans 1:18-32 era.

I heard tonight that Andrew Ladd of the Chicago Black Hawks has been suspended for one game for a so called ‘homophobic slur”. If someone does not like what you say confront them like a man (or woman?). Take him outside and beat the crap out of him (or her?). This taking offense has gone too far.
Call me a name and I will either laugh or confront you. I ain’t gonna call mommy.

That’s been my experience every time I have asked for a custom cake at Krogers and Marsh supermarkets.

Roughly 110% of all hate crimes are perpetrated by the “victim”.

I read that Whole Foods has security camera video that shows the cashier scanning the bar code on the top of the box. When the “pastor” submitted the box as evidence, the bar code was on the side.

Further, it is, according to WF, company policy that the bar code will be on the top of the box.

So WF is suing for defamation and he is dead meat.

date of the article is 04/18/2016, not 04/20/2016.

There was an update to this story showing that this accusation is probably bogus.

Also Whole Foods video shows the bar code label was in a different position when the cashier scanned it.

That would be the specific vicinity.

It’s truly tragic that so many people have such a misconception of the pursuit of happiness that they basically confuse the whole of it with their sexual escapades.

God want us to have joy, to be holy ... not to be “happy” as the world defines happiness.

Austin itself is a liberal city, and seriously why even shop at Whole Foods, you go in the store to buy some bread and you end up spending 150 bucks

Anytime I have purchased a cake at a bakery I have always been shown what was written on the cake before paying for it.

It would also be interesting to read the order for the personalization the person had requested to be written on the cake. That will go a long way because he would have to go into detail about what he wanted and the words love wins is just odd.
