Because Satan likes to beat us over the head with our sin and make it our identity.

My identity is in Christ, not the sin I struggle with.

Temptation is not sin.

“I think same sex attraction is a sin whether one acts on it or not.”

It’s a temptation put out there by the father of lies.

Being tempted is not a sin.

Anybody with SSAD (Same Sex Attraction Disorder) needs to pray for God to remove the evil vile thoughts and desires

God is so much more powerful than satan and one needs to call on Him in times of such temptations.

I didn’t word my comment very well. I don’t think I’m disagreeing with those who say the temptation itself isn’t sin.

All I’m saying is that it is only because of his sin that he has such an attraction. His attraction to other males is a result of his sinful heart. That isn’t only true of homosexuality. It is also true of the married man who has an attraction to another woman. It’s true of the man who covets his neighbor’s new car, too. Now don’t get me wrong I believe the Bible teaches that homosexuality is particularly abhorrent in a way that attraction to another woman or coveting isn’t.

Sin isn’t just the acts we commit, it’s an inward principle. Man doesn’t just commit sinful acts, his very being was corrupted in the fall. As an old preacher used to say, “The boy isn’t a thief because he stole the watermelon, He stole the watermelon because he is a thief BY NATURE.” That’s who he is, just as that’s who the homosexual is. As a result of Adam’s fall in the Garden, we are, every single one of us, sinners by nature. Outside of Christ there is nothing we can do to please God. Scripture plainly says that even our righteous acts are filthy in His sight. That’s because man’s very being has been corrupted. It’s only those who have the righteousness of Christ imputed who are pleasing to God. Even then, it’s His righteousness that’s pleasing, not our own.

I don't think I sinned.
I think it can be.
I don't believe so
I don't believe
it logically follows
it's my opinion
Again, I do not think

Well there's your problem right there, Dufus...No one should care what you think...It's what Jesus thinks and says that matter...

Just ask Jesus: "I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." – Matthew 5:28.

You notice the sin is looking at a woman...Looking at a man isn't even considered...It's an abomination...

Jesus taught that what was in the heart was sin no need to act on it. So yes. It is sin. Acting on it only makes it more sinful.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this explanation. I think that -— although the wording is different -— the idea of Christ’s righteousness being imputed to us, is, if not straight-up synonymous, then at least related to what Catholics might term being “incorporated into Christ.”

Tagline.

I agree with you. I think everybody has lustful or covetous thoughts whether they admit or not. Someone in this thread said he was attracted to Melania Trump ‘but doesn’t act on it’. If you’re attracted to another man’s wife, that is a lustful or covetous thought IMO. We all do it at some time or other. Thankfully, forgiveness is available to us.

I believe that difference is deadly. I’m leaving to go see my mother and won’t be back around today. I wish I had time to delve into why I said it’s deadly. Differences on Popes, Eucharist, and the priesthood aside, imputation more than any other reason, is why I’m a Reformed Protestant. It’s that critical.

These days, it simply depends on which denomination and church you attend.

You'll have to take it up with Jesus ...

Tell Him your theory

"Matthew 5:27-28
King James Version (KJV)
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."

“Look at a woman to lust after her” -— that’s looking at her for the *purpose* of or in *order* to lust.

In order to arouse sexual appetite.

... and for the most part have learned to "love the sinner and hate the sin."

I like to think I have, as well. It's really not that difficult, once you look honestly at your own sin.

Is My Same-Sex Attraction a Sin?

It appears that an apparent confusion between TEMPTATION and COMMITING is being made.

Purposely?

Beyond my telling; at this point of the thread.

But what does the Bible teach about homosexual feelings within the heart?

The specific you've shown.

The general format is:

What does the Bible teach about _______________ within the heart?

I believe my same-sex attraction will continue to dwindle in intensity as God continues to sanctify me.

I believe this to be correct.

Will it EVER go completely away?

Probaably not.

Paul asked for the thorn to be removed; but it never was.

That attraction proceeds from a fallen depraved heart.

Which each one of us possesses.
