Number 10 sounds a lot like where we are today.

Works are PROOF of our trust, not required for Salvation.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I think I acknowledged that. But the Bible DOES say that “Faith without works is dead,” so at some level, I am thinking that works ARE necessary, but not for earning salvation. I do not in any way seek to persuade you. I offered my thoughts. We are friends here!

Passover in 2016 was on April 22 (Nisan 14, so the crucifixion was on Nisan 15 and He arose three days later, on Nisan 18).

Justified in the eyes of God, or man?

Romans 3:20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God's sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.

To place one’s trust in / have faith in. The demons believe in God’s existence, but they have no faith or trust in Him.

More directly... to follow. The demons know who God is but refuse to follow and worship. We are not merely called to believe as a knowing but to believe as a following all He has commanded... and that is a doing.

And when we fail to do as He commanded, because of our saving faith He is faithful and just to forgive us our confessed sin. We confess our sin to Him and He is Faith full. If we were not already saved when we confess to Him, the process of forgiveness would require getting saved again so our faith would be connected to His Spirit in us.

IOW: We confess to Him, because we have saving faith IN His Promises.

To: freepertoo; itsahoot; reaganaut; amessenger4god; I want the USA back

When you’re in love with someone, you eagerly want to do for them, be with them, read their love letters, etc. For a Christian, it is the same. If we love the Lord, really love him and aren’t just being religious, we will love to do what He asks of us, trust Him when things don’t go the way we wish they would; we love to be in his presence and read his words

~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Thanks for this comment, freepertoo. I think you illustrate well the point I was seeking to make. To do works illustrates a condition of heart. In my opinion, if we are not doing, nor desiring to do the works, we don’t truly even have Faith; it is dead. It is ONLY the Faith that will save us - not the works.

But why works?

Sometimes when we are learning a new skill, we need to have the ability to see how well we are assimilating the material. When we are disciples, we are learning how to follow the path of Christ. I can look and see if my Faith is alive by seeing the outer measure of my works as well as my attitude toward doing them.

In my life the works are necessary so that I may use them as a mirror, as well as seeking to being a “Faith”-ful servant. I think all here are striving to hear those words from our Lord, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

Again, our salvation does not directly depend on the works, but they ARE necessary! - in my opinion. I truly respect it if anyone does not agree with this position. But since this is a discussion about this topic, I simply offer my thoughts.

Blessings to all who love our Lord Christ!

Just pray before reading that the Holy Spirit will show you what God wanted to get across to you.

He is ever faithful.

As one article puts it, what really should be said is "Preach the Gospel, and since it is necessary, use THE WORD."

FWIW, I think it took a lot of work to IN FAITH take the boy up the mountain, build an altar and raise the sword over him and then respond when the Lord provided another alternative sacrifice.

IMHO he DID do a bit of work here that we can point to and see. The works he did on that mountain are evidence of his tremendous Faith. He was WILLING to act - to work - in loving obedience and complete Faith in God’s will and direction.

1. "I must do _____ to be saved or keep doing _____ to stay saved."

In your scheme, is repentance one of those works not needed, to be saved?

10. "The Rapture is not in the Bible."

The 1 Thessalonians 4 passage is talking about the resurrection of the dead on the last day (something the typical dispensationalist seems to downplay, but the NT writers regarded as of great importance).

as Jesus and Our Lord’s prayer teaches us:
“...forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

that’s a work.

This is exactly the teachings you get from people that worship their own concept of Jesus and not the actual real person that is Jesus and His Father.

The real Jesus said over and over that works were absolutely necessary for Salvation. You have to earn salvation from HIM. You can’t get there on your own. Jesus Christ has to award you salvation after your works are judged.

He said so in Matt 25: 32-.

Notice also in verse 37 the people that will actually be saved don’t know they are saved until Jesus tells them they are.

Anyone that goes around proclaiming themselves to be saved, is actually usurping the judgement from Jesus and will be sent to hell for it. The best description I’ve heard goes like this, “The further someone is from God the more entitled to salvation they think they are.”

Look at all of you. You all go around proclaiming to the world you don’t have to do anything for your salvation and as a matter of fact you’re ALREADY saved.

Even though the real Jesus has stated, in his own words, if you didn’t do the works He commanded you to do, He would cast you out at the last day.

Matt 25:
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

You did it not.

Jesus Himself said that baptism was necessary to fulfill all righteousness. Even Jesus was baptized. And He said you couldn’t get into heaven with out it.

But low and behold, how many people will say baptism isn’t necessary for salvation? Regardless of what Jesus said....

This is going to happen as surely as the sun raises in the east..

Luke 13:
28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

He’s talking to “believers” btw.

But all those ranks of people He’s casting out have to be filled by somebody right?

Merely discarding the "new testament" would solve so many arguments about "faith" and "works."

But of course I know this won't happen . . . not until the reality stares you right in the face.
