And the militant Mormon asserted: "The real Jesus said over and over that works were absolutely necessary for Salvation. You have to earn salvation from HIM. You can’t get there on your own. Jesus Christ has to award you salvation after your works are judged."

The 'real Jesus' of your Mormonism, would that be the one who appeared to Joe Smith in the woods, in his bedroom, etc., or is this a Jesus not found in the Bible, because God' Word says no such thing as you assert. But Joe Smith did, when taking time off from taking other men's wives as his sexual servants.

According to the Bible, Jesus told Nicodemus the Gospel of Salvation in John 3:14-18 and connected it to the healing event found in Numbers 21:4-9 as example of His Way to Save. The Bible also illustrates the immediacy of salvation in the here and now with the scene at Pentecost and in the House of Cornelius. ... Joe Smith told Mormons that they might be saved 'after all that they can do to get worthy of salvation.' Joseph Smith proved to be a false prophet.

The “big name” preachers with Mega Churches all have one thing in common.

How often do they mention Jesus?

I went to Joel’s twitter account once and couldn’t find his name mentioned once. All I found was fortune cookie advice.

It’s a sad thought to see what our churches and their messages have become.

My church has it’s issues with women and their daughters dressing like they’re going to the Roxbury.

#27 >>>Works are PROOF of our trust, not required for Salvation.<<<

You know chapter and verse, so I will omit those for the sake of brevity.

If we love God (even if only by loving our neighbors) we will be compelled to do the Lord’s work; ergo, I submit the proposition that salvation DOES require works ~ if someone fails in their obligation to work in service to Our Lord Jesus, that person may be called a hypocrite, or even a heretic...

I know I only have an eensy tiny bitty micro nanno glimpse of our wondrous God, but what little I know has me spellbound.

LOL! God set it up very well indeed!

I think that is where we all are to some degree.

The more we learn about God, and the closer we get to Him, the more we realize that what we know is miniscule compared for what He has for us to understand.

Exactly! When I was little, my mom had a book titled “Your God Is Too Small.” I used to be fascinated with that concept and really did think about it a lot! I think I tried to read it one time before it was culled from the library, and it was way over my head, but the truth of the title always stuck!

# 79 >>Anyone that goes around proclaiming themselves to be saved, is actually usurping the judgment from Jesus and will be sent to hell for it. The best description I’ve heard goes like this, “The further someone is from God the more entitled to salvation they think they are.”

Look at all of you. You all go around proclaiming to the world you don’t have to do anything for your salvation and as a matter of fact you’re ALREADY saved.<<

Excellent Post! t y...

Isaiah 53
Hosea 4:6-7
Deuteronomy 28

There’s some harsh reality for Hebrews in denial of who their Messiah is.

And there’s a Shoah to come that will have them on their knees begging for Him per Zechariah 12.

“Pilate asked Jesus, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’Jesus replied, ‘You have said it’” (Mark 15:2).

We Christians love you, and want you saved.

Well I'll get the party started:

So now, before considering James 2, you have in favor of "grace through faith apart from works":

1. The general theme of the Bible

2. The entire sacrificial system of the Torah

3. Virtually every epistle in the New Testament

4. The Cross of Christ itself... Jesus died for your sins!

Considering #4, which is Christianity 101 (what Paul literally called "of first importance"), why do so many denominations in technicality reject that?  Jesus died for your sins, he literally took your sins in His body to the tree (1 Peter 2:24).  Tetelestai!  It is finished, debt is paid, Jesus sat down (Hebrews 1:3).

Catholicism and Orthodoxy have developed entire systems of sacraments, indulgences, and intercessions to have man again go back to the stage of having to continually atone for his sins through his own works.  It is like rewinding the Bible back to Leviticus.

If Jesus died for your sins (which again is Christianity 101), why are you trying to atone for them yourself?

Consider James 2:10:

"For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it."

James is exactly right and goes on to talk about mercy triumphing over judgment (12-13).  It is amazing to me that even though Jesus died for our sins (Revelation 1:5) to free us from the James 2:10 predicament (1 John 2:1) that so much of Christianity through the centuries drifted from the simple Gospel message of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, into a message of sacraments, indulgences, and other-than-Jesus intercessions.

Consider the current Catholic system.  If you commit even once any one of these sins without confessing before death you have a one-way ticket to Gehenna whether you believe Jesus died for you or not.  In fact, every single time you commit a "mortal sin" in Catholicism you become unsaved and are "re-saved" upon confession and priestly pardon.  Notice that this process completely decouples forgiveness from faith in Jesus' finished work.  Instead, the Torah system of the endless sacrifices of bulls and goats is replaced with the Catholic system of the endless sacrifices of the Mass, and priestly confession, and other sacraments, because no one can truly live up to the Catholic standard just as no one could live up to the Levitical standard.

In light of the Catholic system consider also Jesus' standard where hatred = murder and lust = adultery.  Are people so blind as to not see how at any given time the vast majority of Catholics would be unsaved under their own standard?

No wonder Paul referred to these as ‘an other gospel’ ...

Believe?

Require?

Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

John 6:28-29
Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?
Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

1 John 3:21-23
Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.
And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

James 1:27
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

"In your scheme, is repentance one of those works not needed, to be saved?"

Two points of clarification:

1. If by repentance you mean "stop sinning", then I agree that is a work and would say that is not necessary for salvation.

2. If by repentance you mean biblical metanoia, which means to change your heart and mind about Christ and believe in Him, then that is not a work, it is faith, and is necessary for salvation.

As an example, in Acts 2:38 and Acts 3:19 when Peter tells his audience to "repent" (metanoia in the Greek), he is calling on them to change their mind about Christ and become disciples. This is the plain meaning of biblical repentance and would be backed up by just about any lexicon, concordance, or scholarly article on "metanoia."

Now true metanoia will ultimately result in good works and an avoidance of sin, but metanoia is not, in itself, stopping sin, as if any of us could actually be perfect ENOUGH or sinless ENOUGH to warrant salvation.

The "stop sinning" definition of repentance, which has no biblical, Greek, or scholarly basis, negates the whole point of the Gospel: Jesus died for your sins and rose again.

"The 1 Thessalonians 4 passage is talking about the resurrection of the dead on the last day"

Agreed. But it's also talking about the rapture. Notice the whole, you know, "those who are alive and remain"-thing and the whole, "caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in air"-thing?

I didn't address pre/mid/post-trib, but simply made the point that the Bible does teach the rapture, unless of course you don't believe Paul meant what he wrote, or you feel entitled to take generous and liberal liberties with the text.
