Illinois Bishops “Neutral” On Abortion
Pro-Life Corner ^ | 8/1/16

Posted on 08/01/2016 4:47:59 PM PDT by marshmallow

In a shocking development the Illinois Conference of Catholic Bishops have declared themselves “neutral” on a controversial bill that would force pro-life medical professionals and pregnancy care centers to tell mothers about the “benefits” of abortion and give mothers information on where and how to end the life of her child in an abortion clinic.

Pro-lifers have worked very hard to defeat SB 1564 since it was passed in May but the Illinois Bishops, by taking a “neutral” position, have essentially sided with Planned Parenthood and the Illinois abortion lobby in criminalizing any medical professional or care center worker who refuses to send a mother to an abortion clinic.

SB 1564 also mandates that health care professionals and care centers tell mothers of the “benefits” of abortion. The Bishops statement says about this mandate, we “Would rather not alter the law in any way.” The Rockford Pro-Life Initiative is trying to figure out what the “benefits” are of the crushing of the skull, stopping the beating heart, and the brutal dismemberment of a little girl or boy in their mothers womb, but the Bishops of Illinois seem to have found something they find beneficial about this.

We don’t know why the Bishops betrayed children in the womb, mothers, and countless pro-lifers who are on the front lines defending life. Is it federal funding, politics, moral relativism, the desire to be popular with the pro-abortion liberals who run Illinois, or have the Bishops just lost the will to protect the unborn.

How can these apostate Bishops be allowed to continue in their positions?

What's the text of this bill? Is there some kind of tit-for-tat? Are the abortuaries required to offer promotion and referral for non-babykilling alternatives?

That wouldn't make the bill OK, but it would provide a kind of --- albeit fatally flawed--- rationale.

Anybody know more?

I friend of mine left half her estate to her husband (who pissed it away making bad bets on the horses) and 1/2 to the Catholic Church.
I think she was crazy to do that. If she gave the whole of her estate to her husband he still would have pissed it away. But at least the money wouldn’t have gone for the destruction of our culture the way the Catholic Church has done.
I say this very unhappily as I am a born and bred Catholic and there is much about the Catholic Church I love. Just not a lot I like about the management of said church.

American Catholics are simultaneously enduring the worse president and the worse pope of their lifetimes.

Illinois bishops and priests and nuns have been advocating abortion since at least the 70s.... at least in the big Chicago Archdiocese.

I’ve heard pastors and Monsignors preach from the pulpit and preach at Community Organization events that social justice is more important than blocking a womans right to choose. A womans right to choose is part of the WHOLE CLOTH of social justice that they like to pontificate about.

Right... Now, you be real careful handling those rattlesnakes at your next church meeting.

I am so sorry that Bishop Doran of Rockford is now retired. He would not have been quiet about this. I am no longer in Rockford, but I wouldn’t doubt that he would still let his disgust be heard.

‘So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.’ Rev. 3:16

The schism is coming. True Catholics cannot much longer tolerate a heretical Pope and quisling Bishops.

Pope Francis?

Is this the Pope Francis you're talking about?

But he's a teacher, so what he says is important. He wouldn't talk like that if he supported abortion as a woman's "right"? Obviously, he does NOT support it.

We always notice when he says stuff that's dubious if not downright wrong-headed. Are we supposed to turn a blind eye and a deaf ear, when he defends the unborn child?

He talks it. He also walks it. When he became Pope, one of the first things Francis told his Almoner (top charity official), Monsignor Konrad Krajewski was to open a residential shelter just off of St. Peter's Square, serving all sorts of needy people but with a priority for pregnant women and street children.

This was in the news earlier this year when a Rom (also called gypsy or zingano) woman gave birth on the sidewalk near St. Peters' Square and the Pppe, hearing of it, directed that she as to be offered free housing for a year.

He's also requested Sisters of Life to set up one of their missions in Rome.

Could he do more? Of course. Is his alliance with prpulation-bomber ecology freaks (like the crew that rolled out Laudato Si) a problem? A big one.

But if anybody, president, premier, or prelate --- other than Francis--- had said and done what he has to uphold the right to life of the unborn, that person would be called a pro-life leader.

Think about that.

I have always appreciated your thoughtful and skilled apologetics. I have to disagree with you here. Francis has issued numerous statements that economic issues are equally important to pro-life issues. He has counseled us not to be obsessed with abortion, to the exclusion of other issues. I wondered if he would have issued the Bernadin “seamless garment” doctrine to Mother Teresa?

I’m not one of those Catholics who thinks Francis is the anti-Christ or was the result of an invalid election. However, I am one of those Catholics who cringes every time he speaks. He’s not inspirational; he’s disheartening to me. My soul literally aches for a Catherine of Sienna or a Thomas More to speak the truth to power and rebuke him for the politicizing the Chair of Peter.

I view Francis as a chastisement upon the Church. He is what the mystics from Jahenny to Emmerich warned us about when they said priest will fight against priest, Bishop v. Bishop and Cardinal v. Cardinal. Most of my friends in the St. Thomas More society in Maryland feel the same way, within varying degrees
