Well, sometimes they got it right. Don’t forget the Crusaders also sacked Venice and Constantinople which were Christian cities. Also, they frequently ended up just slaughtering local Jews instead of making the long trek out of Europe.
But the whole motive for the Crusades was different.
That was a right response to a serious threat.

Everything we do and say is based on making judgments about it. We simply cannot get away from judging.
The question then becomes what the purpose of the judging is.
Why not, the President isn't American.

Judging people ... I agree. Judging sin ... well, aren’t we called to do that? To call out our brothers and sisters when they err? We need to hold each other accountable. Otherwise, sinful behavior gets watered down.
Has this misguided, worldly Pope never read the entire Matthew 7:1-6 passage, particularly verse 5?
I also question if the Pope is familiar with 1 Corinthians 5:12 and 1 Corinthians 6:1-6.
Most of the Bible is a textbook instructing Christians how to judge others.
But this is the pope. My Catholic friends tell me the Bible isn’t important in relation to what a fallible man in an unfashionable hat decrees. So if you’ve got that going for you, i.e., blind obedience by church members, you can say/do anything. It’s good to be pope.
Yes we are, but not for the reasons that we usually do it.
It's usually to point fingers in judgment and condemnation and tear down, not realizing that within each one of us doing the finger pointing is the potential do engage in the same sin we are condemning in others.
We're all human and there is no temptation but what is common to man.

It's just a matter of circumstances and opportunities that we choose different paths, but that is nothing to brag on.
I look back at situations in my life where I could have really gone off the rails and ruined my life and I can now see that God was working in my life to protect me from myself for not letting those situations go where they could have.

True, we can’t judge what is in someone’s heart, only God can do that.
But we can, and must, judge what is in their hands (a sword), their body (a bomb) or their laws (Sharia).
In Matthew 10:16 it is said: “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
We cannot put our heads in the sand and ignore the threats against us.
It is our duty to help those that cannot help themselves, like those being persecuted by the Mohammedans.

Perhaps you’re missing the nuance here? Francis didn’t say, ‘Fellow Catholics, who ate WE to judge?’

1 Cor 5 9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. 12For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”
