Cardinal Praises Hospital’s ‘Outstanding Professionalism’ Following Charlie Gard’s Death

Following the death of Charlie Gard, Cardinal Vincent Nichols of Westminster offered his condolences to the baby’s family.

The cardinal also praised the hospital, which had waged a successful legal battles against the parents to prevent the child from receiving experimental treatment elsewhere and, in the end, to prevent the child from dying at home.

The prelate said:

I am deeply saddened by the news that little Charlie Gard has now died. I offer my sincere and profound condolences to his parents who have treasured him with such a strong and undiminished love. I assure them of my prayers and those of the Catholic community. We pray that our heavenly Father, who most certainly welcomes the soul of their beloved son into heaven, will comfort and strengthen them and all their family and friends.

Not sure whether Nicholls is sucking up to Francis or the increasingly anti-religious rabble in the UK. Maybe both.

This is among many other reasons I stand against the Catholic Church.

Absolutey disgusting.

Where was Bergoglio? Hugging muslims or homos? Or just sucking up to the U.N.?

Big difference between Bergoglio and Pope John Paul II’s defense of Terry Schiavo’s life. But then again, JP II failed to discipline Bishop Lynch for his participation in Terry’s murder.

So who do you stand with?

Sanctions on the judge and the hospital staff should come from the United States government.

JPII died a few days after Terri, no?

Lynch was a train wreck. He installed TV cameras in the showers of a seminary where he was rector. He paid a triathlete employee of his a huge settlement for sexual harassment. Just before he retired, he celebrated Obergefell. In a statement, he lamented that he could not “promise” that the Church would someday perform “sacramental” gay marriages.

IMHO, the fact that Lynch was ever made a bishop should have absolutely precluded the canonization of JPII. But what’s done is done.

JPII “disciplined” only a few bishops in 28 years. And his hand was forced. The South African who was caught using a homosexual message board, and Weakland. And the crazy African who ran off and got married and started a new church.

The hierarchy is not the Church.

I read the statement and I think the Cardinal was mostly referring to the Docters and nurses who took care of the baby. I bet the nurses were heartbroken.
The Church has plenty of bad Bishops and Cardinals, and Nicholls might be one of them but his statement is too general to come to any conclusions about his intentions without being a mind reader.

They killed him.

Why is someone praising their *professionalism*?

Would he feel the same way if they refused to treat him so he died?

I’ve seen some reports saying “yes” and others saying “no”.

How many elderly people are routinely being denied “expensive” care at this hospital and are thus being given a death sentence? The Liverpool Care Pathway was developed in the 1990s as a model of treating the terminally ill in the UK, but in many cases was a pathway to death for many elderly who were capable of living quality lives.

The hierarchy is not the Church.

Then what is the church?

How does it exist outside of the people who comprise it?

They are one constitutive element of the Church.

You seem to have interpreted what I said to mean “the hierarchy is no part of the Church.”

This is typical of you. I.e., always eager to pretend that whatever a Catholic says is patently preposterous. That’s why it is so easy to identify you as a bigot rather than an honest questioner.
