Pro-Francis journalist Mollie Wilson O'Reilly asks the pope to stop making every pope a saint saying that it is a pretty big coincidence for all of the popes since Pius XII ahem, Venerable Pius XII to have been men of uncommon heroic virtue.
Writing in the liberal Catholic magazine Commonweal (February 8) she adds, "If the modern Church really has managed to elect an unbroken string of papal saints in the past century, well, thats impressive, but considering that the pope is the one who gets to make that call, its also a bit...suspect.
In 2014, Pope Francis canonized John XIII ( 1963) and John Paul II ( 2005). Paul VI ( 1978) is on the docket to be canonized 2018 and Pope John Paul I ( 1978) was recognized Venerable last November.
1 Corinthians 1:2 To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours.
The latest pope will be joining “Saint” Lucifer.
When everyone is a saint, no one is a saint.
“Unbroken string” ?! 2 popes? With 2 in between? No mention of Pius XII, a holy man who saved thousands of Jews and during WWII! What about Benedict XV, isn’t his cause opened? Throughout history saints are made in uneven bunches because, yes you are right, the living pope must select not only by “miracles” but what benefits the Church at that time. The author of this article is very short sighted.
That’s the Bergoglian plan.
