Statement from Association of Catholic Priests in Ireland is a Disaster
Creative Minority Report ^ | 5/9/18 | Matt Archbold

This is nothing short of a horror. And totally emblematic of the state of much of the Church today.

The Association of Catholic Priests, which is a doctrinaire liberal organization but, according to the National Catholic Reporter has 1,000 members, has worked to confuse Catholics on this issue with this horrific statement about the abortion debate going on in Ireland right now:

In the midst of the debate and discussion in our country about the forthcoming referendum to repeal the 8th Amendment of the Constitution, we, the leadership of the Association of Catholic Priests, issue the following statement.

As an association representing Catholic priests we fully endorse the Catholic teaching that all human life, from beginning to end, is sacred, and that every human person shares in the fundamental right to life.

We are also aware, and are constantly reminded in our ministry, that human life is complex, throwing up situations that are more often grey than black and white and that demand from us a sensitive, non-judgemental, pastoral approach. Also, as leadership of an association made up of men who are unmarried and without children of our own, we are not best placed to be in any way dogmatic on this issue.

We do not wish to tell anyone how they should vote. But we encourage both ourselves and any citizens who may be interested in our viewpoint, to do the best we can to acquaint ourselves with exactly what we are being asked to vote for, and what the possible consequences of our vote may be. Having done that to the best of our ability, and following it with the, often painful and difficult, task of consulting our conscience, let us cast our vote.

I've never been the property of anyone else.

That doesn't, however, keep me from stating that the concept that one man can own another as property is always and in every instance an absolute intrinsically-evil abomination.

‘unmarried and without children of our own, we are not best placed to be in any way dogmatic on this issue.’

just pandering to females, who are vociferous in haranguing men that they have no right to opine about abortion...

IN a similar manner. I don’t direct or drive trains, but seeing one deliberately sent crashing into obstacles or other trains tells me that someone screwed up in driving or directing a train.

Would, that it may be by the Grace of God that these pastoral ministers were born and that they have the ability to speak on this or any other issue. Perhaps it would do them, and us, well to remember what Jesus said regarding the harming of children.

I believe Ireland has a large rate of gay pedophile priests.

The RCC is literally falling apart before our eyes.

And have no knowledge of what being a husband and father are all about.

In a sense, he's correct, they are unqualified to counsel married people with families which makes the Scriptural admonition that leaders in the church MUST be married with their children being well behaved and obedient make a whole lot of sense.

Which makes all that about the Holy spirit protecting the RCC a bunch of nonsense.

God will not protect anyone who engages in unrepentant, willful sin.

He didn't do it in the NT church times. All one has to do is read Revelation 2&3 and see Jesus' opinion of churches which allowed sin in their midst and refused to deal with it.

NO ONE can expect God's protection with they willingly defy Him.

If these guys can’t find a way to say “If rending an umborn baby limb-from-limb is not wrong, then nothing is wrong!”, then they need to ask to be laicized and find another line of work.

Don't kid yourself. If this were on the ballot here American Bishops would not be saying any differently. A lot of them anyway.
