Besides asking a question of EWTN, I am not sure of how to find the answer. I think other people might want to know the answer.

I always wonder about a woman who is told it’s not a baby and believes it.

Except sin against the Holy Spirit which seems to be Apostasy with subsequent attacks on belief and believers, Conversion to Islam, perhaps.

That's the Catholic answer.

Wanna argue over something you heard in the past knock yourself out but there is no other Catholic answer no matter what a priest, nun, deacon, or even pope may have told you.

The nuns taught me (long, long ago) that God is willing to forgive *any* sin if there is *true* contrition and, when possible, the sin is confessed to a priest and the penance is fulfilled.

“....An example would be Nancy Pelosi, who claims to be a good Catholic, but strongly supports abortion as a right (???)....”

Naaaa.....the vile, demonic Botoxian is NOT a good example as it’s a demon straight out of the pit of hell. Whatever it is, it sold it’s soul to the Satan a loonnngggg time ago for wealth, fame and power. Pure evil manifested in the flesh. It smugly wraps itself in some sort of Catholic mantel to appear as an “angel of light”...just like its Big Daddy. Hopefully, the Grim Reaper will soon send it back to the Pit...real soon, hopefully.
A better example might be some poor Catholic girl that’s practically being forced/pressured to have an abortion by her peers & family and then regretfully does so. Then, she realizes the evil of it, repents and seeks forgiveness from it.

Abortion incurs a latae sententiae excommunication.

It used to be that priests had to request the faculty to remit the excommunication from the bishop on a case by case basis, so the penitent typically had to confess twice, once to request the faculty and once to receive it.

I believe that now Pope Francis has extended the faculty to remit the penalty to all priests in confession, so it's effectively like confessing any other sin.

So I was taught. What troubles me is that the damage goes on, even snowballs, and sometimes there is no undoing it, ever. As an example, let's say Charles Manson's parents abused him and made him the lunatic he was. Then they had a change of heart and deep contrition later on. Nevertheless he went on to cause horrible murders. How can the parents believe they are forgiven, and what exactly does forgiveness mean in such cases? Their son is still in the grip of Satan. (Presuming here that he is hopelessly insane.) What about his victims, and their loved ones?

Unless you’ve become a Catholic recently, I think you should respect our caucus designation.

In both Catholic and Protestant Christianity, forgiveness involves repentance and turning from your evil ways. In fact, is repentance really repentance if you don’t turn from your evil ways.

Abortion is no different than any other murder in terms of forgiveness.

I’m guilty of that too, Champion. I didn’t see the cc tag for some reason. Sorry.

The sins of the fathers pass on to the 3rd and 4th generation. A statement of fact.

A pregnant woman smokes, drinks, eats too much sugar and has diabetes. The baby suffers and has more obstacles to overcome than a healthy baby from a healthy mom.

The same is true of cultural errors. A culture that reveres astrology or some false doctrine suffers for generations.

What I’m saying is, if I were Manson’s parents, forgiveness wouldn’t be any comfort at all. Indeed it would be extremely hard to believe.

The sin of abortion can be forgiven, but American justice requires that abortionists (including politicians and judges) be indicted, tried, convicted and sentenced for crimes against humanity, genocidal murder and treason.

To be forgiven, you must repent. And that means rejecting your sinful ways and change. You cannot be forgiven for sins you have no repentance about.
