I've had both accidents and surgeries. Agree that going under the knife was a blink of the eye. Push of ther plunger and then I am waking up in recover, no sense of time passing.

Sort of the same with my most recent accident (Concrete face-plant while biking). Riding down the street, then remembering some EMS folks pulling me around in the back of an ambulance. In and out of consciousness until I stabilized in the trauma center. Do not remember anything out of body. That last one was a epiphany...

One doesn’t have to be near death to go “out of body.” My experience was when giving a talk at my church’s Lenten “Soup & Substance” series where we met and for that year several of us told about our spiritual growth and lives. I was in the middle of my presentation when I realized that I was looking at myself from just behind my right shoulder and then looking at the expressions on the faces of the 25-30 folks in the fellowship hall and seeing that they were actually listening to me. Then I popped back into my body and kept on with my presentation. That has been my only OBE experience that I know of, but it made me a believer that they do occur.
