Services have been held by Greek Orthodox worshippers in the land of Christ's birth.

Dear MarMema, That is the most beautiful ikon of the resurrection I have ever seen. Thank you for the visual blessing on this sacred day!

It looks as though today is also the day the siege of the Church of the Nativity ends:)

Glory to God! I was hoping for a release/rescue of the Burnhams today, personally.

Christ Is Risen!!

Paschal greetings to all and especially to the Orthodox Christians who have me on their bump lists.

My parish is 75 miles away, so, as usual we stay in a hotel from Holy Thursday..

I have only been stuggling for Orthodoxy for eight years, and, each year, PASCHA reminds me of the one thing needful.

Here's an interesting science thing that my husband finds fascinating.
As the sun sets on Pascha this evening, the planets Venus, Saturn and Mars will be seen in a perfect triangle, measuring 3 degrees on each side.
The last time this happened (without the sun in between) was in 2 BC, and many scientists think that this alignment was the star that the Magi saw as a predictor for the birth of Christ.

Christ is Risen!
Christos Anesti!
Khristos Voskrese!
Hristos a Inviat!
Al-Masih Qam!
Kristuusaq Unguirtuk!

(The next to last is Arabic and the last one is another traditional Orthodox language--Yupik! Our mission, another mission and two parishes in Kansas are sending support to a Yupik seminarian at St. Herman Seminary.)

I forgot to mention in my above post that the triangle in the story is directly above Bethlehem. From here

"..on May 5, something even more spectacular will happen. The bright planets Mars, Saturn and Venus will group together to form a perfect equilateral triangle in the western sky. This dazzling configuration will be visible almost everywhere on Earth. In the Middle East, this pyramid-shaped specter will hang directly above Bethlehem.

Oddly enough, more than 2,000 years ago, this same grouping of planets may have caught the attention of the Biblical Magi. On April 1, 2 B.C., the planets Mars, Saturn and Venus came together to form a perfect equilateral triangle over the city of Bethlehem."

I guess if you're even a little superstitious, this whole thing along with the Church of the Nativity thing happening today is all kind of wondrous.
