Our Lady of Fatima, May 13

"I Am of Heaven" The First Visit, May 13, 1917

The flash of light that commenced the first apparition looked like lightning to Lucy. She told her younger companions, Francisco and Jacinta, that they should hurry home and take with them the flock of sheep they were tending, before a thunderstorm began.

A second flash of light soon followed, and this time, the children suddenly saw a Woman standing on a small holm-oak, only a few feet away. She seemed to Lucy to be about 18 to 20 years old, wearing a white gown embroidered with gold. She radiated brilliant clusters of light, and Her face was supernaturally beautiful.

Sister Lucy's fourth memoir gives this account of the opening dialogue with Our Lady:

"Do not be afraid. I will do you no harm."

"Where is Your Grace from?"

"I am of Heaven."

Sister Lucy asked what was wanted from her.

"I have come to ask you to come here for six months in succession, on the 13th day, at this same hour.

"Later on, I will tell you who I am and what I want.

"Afterwards, I will return here yet a seventh time."

On the subject of Heaven, Sister Lucy then asked:

"Shall I go to Heaven too?"

"Yes, you will."

"And Jacinta?"

"She will go also."

"And Francisco?"

"He will go there too, but he will have to say many Rosaries."

The Virgin then gave a glimpse of Her purposes when She asked the children:

"Are you willing to offer yourselves to God and bear all the sufferings He wills to send you, as an act of reparation for the conversion of sinners?"

When they indicated their willingness, the Virgin told the children:

"Then you are going to have much to suffer, but the grace of God will be your comfort."

The memoir then describes the extraordinary effect as Our Lady opened Her hands, radiating "a light so intense ... its rays penetrated our hearts and the innermost depths of our souls, making us see ourselves in God ... more clearly than we see ourselves in the best of mirrors."

Then, moved by an interior impulse which was communicated to them, they fell on their knees and said together:

"O Most Holy Trinity, I adore Thee. My God, my God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament." The first moments passed, and Our Lady added:

"Recite the Rosary every day in order to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war."

Lucy asked whether the war would still last a long time, or if it would soon end.

"I cannot tell you yet, as I have not yet told you all that I want."

At the end of their conversation Our Lady began to rise serenely, going up towards the east until She disappeared in the immensity of the sky. The light which surrounded Her seemed to open a path for Her among the stars, and for this reason the children said sometimes that they had seen Heaven opening.

"…After having taken our lunch and said our prayers, we began to see, some distance off, above the trees that stretched away towards the east, a light, whiter than snow, in the form of a young man, transparent, and brighter than crystal pierced by the rays of the sun. As he drew nearer, we could distinguish his features more and more clearly. We were surprised, absorbed, and struck dumb with amazement. On reaching us, he said: "Do not be afraid. I am the Angel of Peace. Pray with me." Kneeling on the ground, he bowed down until his forehead touched the earth. Led by a supernatural impulse, we did the same, and repeated the words with we heard him say:

(PARDON PRAYER) " My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You.!" Having repeated these words three time, he rose and said: "Pray thus. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are attentive to the voice of your supplications." Then he disappeared…"

FIRST APPARITION OF OUR LADY - May 13, 1917

"…in the Cova da Iria….we saw what seemed to be a flash of lightning." "… …there before us on a small holmoak, we beheld a Lady all dressed in white. She was more brilliant than a crystal glass filled with sparkling water, when the rays of the burning sun shine through it."

"… ‘ Do not be afraid. I will do you no harm. … I am from heaven. … I have come to ask you to come here for six months in succession, on the 13th day, at this same hour. Later on, I will tell you who I am and what I want. Afterwards, I will return here yet a seventh time’ " "Shall I go to heaven too?" " ‘Yes, you will.’ " "And Jacinta?" " ‘She will go also.’ " "And Francisco?" " ‘He will go there too, but he must say many Rosaries.’ "

" ‘Are you willing to offer yourselves to God and bear all the sufferings He wills to send you, as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and of supplication for the conversion of sinners?’ " "Then you are going to have much to suffer, but the grace of God will be your comfort.’" "…we fell on our knees, repeating in our hearts:

( EUCHARISTIC PRAYER) "O Most Holy Trinity, I adore You! My God, my God, I love You in the most Blessed Sacrament!" "… Our Lady spoke again: ‘’Pray the Rosary every day, in order to obtain peace for the world, and the end of the war.’ "

I am admittedly confused. The 'secret' I posted is new to me. Something along the nature of 'a Pope' Pope JPJII? being killed???

Common sense prevails the Church is being attacked even from within. The liberal agenda and an evil anti-Pope will prevail. But we know who wins in the end. It is how we choose to act in the confusion and upcoming world conflicts of religion and politics of how we are judged. Remain strong in faith and prayer I suppose is all we can do no matter how scary it gets.

The third secret was so bad that Pope John XXIII passed out after reading it.

Read the books written by Fr. Malachi Martin. I've heard him speak on many talks shows before his untimely demise. He may have been murdered.

I've heard the same about the secret and Pope John XXIII.

I've never read any of Malachi Martin's books. Does he discuss the third secret?

I was told otherwise, It was Bishop Sheen who had the larger audience.

Looking into it ... and found this interesting story.

"God love you" - The famous signoff of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, the Auxiliary Bishop of New York who starred in the popular prime time religious program LIFE IS WORTH LIVING/DUM/ABC/1952-57 that taught lessons of life and morality. In 1953 Bishop Sheen was commenting on Communism and stated "Stalin must one day meet his judgment." Stalin had a stroke a few days later and died within the week. "Uncle Fultie" Sheen aired opposite "Uncle Miltie" Milton Berle of the TEXACO STAR THEATRE on NBC network. Both Sheen and Berle worked for the same boss: Sky Chief. (Sky Chief also being a blend of Texaco gasoline).

God love him! My grandmother never understood why Sheen was never made a Cardinal.

American Catholic’s Saint of the Day

May 13, 2006
Our Lady of Fatima

Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, three Portuguese children received apparitions of Our Lady at Cova da Iria, near Fatima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon. (See February 20 entry for Blessed Jacinta and Francisco Marto). Mary asked the children to pray the rosary for world peace, for the end of World War I, for sinners and for the conversion of Russia. At the beginning of 2003, the third visionary, Lucia dos Santos, was still living as a Carmelite nun.

Mary gave the children three secrets. Since Francisco died in 1919 and Jacinta the following year, Lucia revealed the first secret in 1927, concerning devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The second secret was a vision of hell.

Pope John Paul II directed the Holy See's Secretary of State to reveal the third secret in 2000; it spoke of a 'bishop in white' who was shot by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows into him. Many people linked this to the assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II in St. Peter's Square on May 13, 1981.

The feast of Our Lady of Fatima was approved by the local bishop in 1930; it was added to the Church's worldwide calendar in 2002.

Comment:

The message of Fatima is simple: Pray. Unfortunately, some people—not Sister Lucia—have distorted these revelations, making them into an apocalyptic event for which they are now the only reliable interpreters. They have, for example, claimed that Mary's request that the world be consecrated to her has been ignored. Sister Lucia has agreed that Pope John Paul II's public consecration in St. Peter's Square on March 25, 1984, fulfilled Mary's request. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith prepared a June 26, 2000, document explaining the “third secret” (available at www.vatican.va).

Mary is perfectly honored when people generously imitate her response “Let it be done to me as you say” (Luke 1:38). Mary can never be seen as a rival to Jesus or to the Church's teaching authority, as exercised by the college of bishops united with the bishop of Rome.

Quote:

“Throughout history there have been supernatural apparitions and signs which go to the heart of human events and which, to the surprise of believers and non-believers alike, play their part in the unfolding of history. These manifestations can never contradict the content of faith, and must therefore have their focus in the core of Christ's proclamation: the Father's love which leads men and women to conversion and bestows the grace required to abandon oneself to him with filial devotion. This too is the message of Fatima which, with its urgent call to conversion and penance, draws us to the heart of the Gospel” (The Message of Fatima, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, June 26, 2000).

Pray the Rosary

15 Promises Our Lady gave for
praying the Most Holy Rosary

  1. Whoever shall faithfully serve Me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces.

  2. I promise My special protection and the greatest graces to all who shall recite the Rosary.

  3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.

  4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

  5. The soul which recommends itself to Me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

  6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

  7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.

  8. Those who are faithful in reciting the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.

  1. I shall deliver from purgatory, those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

  2. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.

  3. You shall obtain all you ask of Me by the recitation of the Rosary.

  4. All those who propagate the holy Rosary shall be aided by Me in their necessities.

  5. I have obtained from My Divine Son, that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors, the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.

  6. All who recite the Rosary are My sons, and brothers of My only son Jesus Christ.

  7. Devotion to My Rosary is a great sign of predestination.
