Did Communists Infiltrate the Catholic Church?
http://www.chuckmorse.com/communism_catholic_church.html ^ | Chuck Morse

As a traditional Jew, I'm deeply concerned over the plight of the Roman Catholic Church, which I consider to be the largest and most influential repository of conservative Judeo-Christian values in America today. I believe that those of us who care about the furtherance of a moral society have a stake in the future of the church as a moral force. The American church is under siege today, not only from the usual external forces but also from the weight of its own internal contradictions. The scandal of corrupt homosexual priests violating the innocence of minors in their care is, to put it mildly, a contradiction in Christian and Catholic practice and faith. When did this corruption inject itself into the system and why was the situation allowed to deteriorate to such a degree?

Much has been written regarding Communist methods of infiltration. The standard method was to "bore from within" which involved Communists disguising themselves as loyalists to an organization they sought to undermine. Once gaining entry, they would gradually and subtly change the values and principles of the targeted organization. The process of "change" can take a generation. Communists have exhibited unlimited patience and supreme confidence in the ultimate attainment of their goals. Examples in America include substantial inroads by Communists into organized labor, academia, the legal profession, race relations, cultural institutions, and the government itself.

When planning to infiltrate, the Communists probe for an institutional weakness to exploit and, in the case of the Catholic Church, perhaps they perceived the weakness to reside in the all-male celibate priesthood. Did Communists send their followers, particularly homosexuals, sexual deviants, and enablers, into seminaries to become priests in order to foster a homosexual culture within the church? Homosexuals, practicing their predilections in an overwhelmingly conservative Catholic community, while given protection by well placed minded superiors, could certainly contribute to the undermining of faith in Catholicism and could unquestionably shake the credibility and moral standing of the church itself down to its very foundations. Undermining Catholic authority has been a clear and often stated goal of the Communist left. Speculation regarding how the Communists attempted to implement their program is reasonable and necessary in order to better understand the present situation.

Two former Communists, Bella Dodd and Manning Johnson, spoke on Communist infiltration of the Catholic Church. Dodd, an important Communist party lawyer, teacher and activist, converted to Catholicism in April 1952 under the tutelage of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. Stating that the Communist infiltration was so extensive that in the future "you will not recognize the Catholic Church," Dodd also asserted that:

"In the 1930's, we put eleven hundred men into the priesthood in order to destroy the Church from within."

"Right now they are in the highest places, and they are working to bring about change in order that the Catholic Church will no longer be effective against Communism."

Manning Johnson, a former Communist Party official and author of "Color, Communism and Common Sense" testified in 1953 to the House un-American Activities Committee regarding the infiltration of the Catholic Church:

"Once the tactic of infiltration of religious organizations was set by the Kremlin ... the Communists discovered that the destruction of religion could proceed much faster through infiltration of the (Catholic) Church by Communists operating within the Church itself. The Communist leadership in the United States realized that the infiltration tactic in this country would have to adapt itself to American conditions (Europe also had its cells) and the religious make-up peculiar to this country. In the earliest stages it was determined that with only small forces available to them, it would be necessary to concentrate Communist agents in the seminaries. The practical conclusion drawn by the Red leaders was that these institutions would make it possible for a small Communist minority to influence the ideology of future clergymen in the paths conducive to Communist purposes This policy of infiltrating seminaries was successful beyond even our communist expectations."

As a radio talk show host and avid listener to talk radio in Boston, I've listened intently to comments by Catholics as the crisis has unfolded. Much has been said regarding the left dominance of the seminaries and a prevalence of the ideas of "liberation theology" which is a biblically contradictory Trojan horse within the Catholic gates. Establishment organs, such as the Boston Globe, continue to wring their hands over the homosexual activities of priests while supporting a homosexual agenda everywhere else. Hopefully, the Catholic flock will wake up and sweep the corruption out of their church in the same way that their founder, Jesus of Nazareth, swept the moneychangers out of the Temple.

I would not write off "AA-1025" so easliy.

In my personal experiences I have met more then a few priests who willfully entered the priesthood under false pretenses. Homosexuals - who were quite proud of themselves, and described the process of fooling their teachers in the seminaries (those who were conservative)....and pretended a type of orthodoxy so as to fly under the radar.

Also, I know of at least two priests whose parents were card-carrying members of the Communist party....and were quite proud of this fact.

As some authors have indicated - which tends to corroborate the AA-1025 story - is that gay men were used as one of the primary vehicles for infiltration. They were blackmailable (both in the 1930s and today), and so could be easily controlled, manipulated, and ordered about. Obedience to superiors, and the peer pressure of being "outed" within teh limited universe of their fellow priests was the vise which locked them into step. They had to obey.........to go along.......to follow and implement "policy", or face sanctions.

What they found was that the gay priest was the ideal vehicle for their plans. He had something to hide - which could be played upon, making him vulnerable. He had few true morals, so he could be easily corrupted. Even if he did have some morals, he could be gradually weaned of them, nad made quite useful.

Your remark regarding Catholic Charities is quite correct. There is very little which is Catholic about it, and charity............think "black hole for money".

Technically, Weakland is STILL a Bishop.

And Weakie was the one who found Merton dead in the shower, as he tells the story.

I don't know why but I'm thinking of Paul Shanley and the notes he wrote to the Boston bishop threatening blackmail if the bishop took Shanley off of his 'street prowling priest' job.

[One area I've been thinking of doing research on is the teaching and nursing orders. I hope I find that there is a resurgence going on there.]

In the past, did these orders care for children that would be labeled "Autistic" today?

Not sure about this particular conspiracy theory, but the general idea of the threat of Ccommunist infiltration was/is real. In 1937, in the encyclical “Divini Redemptoris” Pope Pius XI forbade Catholics worldwide from any association with Communists, even socially. Later Pope Pius XII declared that professing or promoting Communism constitutes apostasy and that the sacraments must be refused to those who actively participate in Communist publications or propaganda.

In the glory days of the USSR, it was commonly thought among conservative intellectuals that the only two great institutions that could prevent Communist dominion of the world were the USA, of course, and the Catholic Church because of it’s antithesis to Communism, based on individual redemption, the sanctity of life, and God as the ultimate reality and source of truth.

Communism and Catholicism are diametrically opposed, as Pope John Paul II also pointed out, so it makes sense that the church would be a major target for the Communists. If we take a look at most of the bishops today, it’s not completely unbelievable that such a conspiracy of some sort, perhaps with unwitting collaborators of liberal social causes, has been at work for quite some time.

...and to bring my verbose post above to a more common level, a nearby parish of mostly regular, nice, average Catholics has a few members who are self-proclaimed “communists” (one even declares himself an “anarchist”). One of them controls the music ministry and another the religious education program.

Pray for them. Who knows? Your prayers just may bring about a re-conversion in their lives. (But for me, I’m thinking that would be an extremely difficult task.)

How about if I pray for you?

Seems to me  that the services required are a better fit within the domain of compassion and altruism, normally served by the Church.

http://www.amazon.com/Not-Shot-Fired-Jan-Kozak/dp/189264701X

The New American magazine, July 5, 1999
Communist and socialist elements within a parliament initiate "policies and legislation which strengthen the hand of grassroots revolutionaries." They also connive to punish those who oppose the planned coup. "Meanwhile, grassroots revolutionaries whip up the appearance of popular support" for the revolutionary agenda "through strikes, rallies, petitions, threats, and - sometimes - sabotage. The 'pressure from below' by the small number of revolutionaries and their larger number of dupes is then used to 'justify' the centralization of power in the hands of the executive branch of the state. Wishy-washy politicians are intimidated, and the 'pressure from above' intensifies.

Each legislative victory results in new demands for even stronger legislation, which is relentlessly pursued by communists and their dupes in parliament - who claim that they are acting in the name of the popular will. The cycle continues until opposition is completely powerless, intimidated, or liq! uidated - and the revolution is a fait accompli."

Book Description
Jan Kozak explains how the people of Czechoslovakia were manipulated into voting themselves into slavery. Through targeted mass agitation, a free government was transformed into a totalitarian dictatorship -- legally! Today more than ever, the revolutionary methods described by Kozak are being targeted against American liberties.

As a guy who spent his grade school years as an altar boy and his high school years as a seminarian, I have a theory or two about the homosexuals and pedophiles that seem to manifest themselves in the ranks. I never experienced any of it first hand and suspect it's quite as normal as any segment of society. That is, a miniscule number of people can effect an enormous amount of harm. I have often suspected that enabling bishops also have some of the twisted gene coursing through their veins.

Regarding the communist aspect of this, I guess I don't know first hand, once again. There isn't any question that many of the pastors and curates I have bumped into from time to time are beyond liberal. Yet, I've also bumped into more than a few priests who were and are conservatives, both religiously and socially. I even met a Jesuit who is a member of the NRA and quite a fan of free enterprise in the business world.

That doesn't stop me from cringing in revulsion when I hear a sermon by some clown decrying the west in general and the unique culture of the United States in particular.

Is it because of the infiltration of the church in the 1930s? That seems an over simplification. Then, if that is partly so, I'd say they blew it with one Karol Wojtyla and one Joseph Ratzinger. These were and are throw backs, as it were. With luck the believers in truth, justice and the American way will prevail over those men of the cloth who want to have it all crash down in the delusion that crashing institutions will fall in such a way so as to miss their destroyers.

Thank you very much for the ping, narses.

I remember, about 10 years ago, a co-worker gave me a book to read about this very subject. Supposedly a nurse had found a journal, written by a dying priest, in which he chronicled how he was a communist and part of the conspiracy to infiltrate the Catholic Church. It was scary then, and it’s scary now.

"I would recommend reading AA-1025: The Memoirs of an Anti-Apostle"

THATS the book! (See my post 345) I remember that it was a chilling read.

I'm sure communists were not the only ones trying to bring down the church - but add in the modernism, homosexuality, and the changing cultural climate, and it has made the church more vulnerable. However, as somebody else posted, the groups who want to see the church fall are "prematurely blowing taps". Pope Benedict is turning this ship around!

God bless Pope Benedict!
