Who, then, is our enemy?

There are two answers. All the saints and popes throughout the Church’s history have given the same two answers, for these answers come from the Word of God on paper in the New Testament and the Word of God in flesh in Jesus Christ.

I agree wholeheartedly. People in the modern culture are too easily tempted.

Sin. All sin is the Devil’s work, though he usually uses the flesh and the world as his instruments. Sin means inviting the Devil in. And we do it. That’s the only reason why he can do his awful work; God won’t let him do it without our free consent. And that’s why the Church is weak and the world is dying: because we are not saints.

Sin. What a challenge for all of us. Frequent reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist, along with prayer strengthen us.

Are we armed and ready for the fight against the devil and sin?

And bookmarked, too. Excellent article.

JMJ333, I am afraid you misjudge me. We are all stained with sin. And I definitely know I am.

Time to go to Confession again! (Laughing!)

Thank you!

I say the prayer to St. Michael at the end of each decade of my rosary after I say fatima prayers.

I also like the St. Michael prayer for the church and for souls. Good in these troubled times! =)

O glorious prince of the heavenly host, St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the battle and in the spiritual warfare we are waging against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the evil spirits.

Come to the assistance of men, whom Almighty God created immortal, making them in His own likeness and redeeming them at a great price from the tyranny of Satan. Fight this day the battle of the Lord with your legions of holy angels, even as of old you fought against Lucifer, the leader of the proud spirits and all the rebel angels, who were powerless to stand against you.

Neither was their place found any more in heaven. And that apostate angel, transformed into an angel of darkness who creeps about the earth to encompass our ruin, was cast headlong into the abyss together with his followers.

But behold, the first enemy of mankind, and a murderer from the beginning, has regained his confidence. Changing himself into an angel of light, he goes about with the whole multitude of wicked spirits to invade the earth and blot out the name of God and of his Christ, to plunder, to slay, to consign to eternal damnation the souls that have been destined for a crown of everlasting life.

This wicked serpent, like an unclean torrent, pours into the hearts of men of depraved minds and corrupt hearts the poison of his malice, the spirit of lying, godlessness, and blasphemy, and the deadly breath of impurity and every form of vice.

These crafty enemies of mankind have filled to overflowing with gall and wormwood the church. They have laid profane hands upon her most sacred treasures. Make haste therefore, O invincible Prince, to help the people of God against the inroads of the lost spirits, AND GRANT US THE VICTORY!!!!

Amen

Thanks for the ping, Polycarp! I DO like St. Michael the Archangel. Folks today have been so conditioned to see angels as fluffy sweet creatures (Touched By An Angel), that they forget their Scriptures. Whenever an Angel appears in the Bible, the first words uttered are "Fear Not". Now why would the Angel say that if its presence were not powerful and full of foreboding? It's like "Jesus the Kitten", Angels have been made to be cuddly creatures in our culture.

Well, I'm more of a lurker than a writer. So many of you find just the right things to say at the right time. By the time it takes me to compose my thoughts one of you has already expressed it far better than I could.
