I don't think it's "nuts". I think it is a good idea for people to be able to discuss certain doctrines without interruption. :)

Never ask a man if he's from Texas. If he is, he'll tell you. If he's not, why embarrass him?

is quite clear from the universal writings of the Church fathers in this period of time (3rd-5th Centuries), that the Bishop of Rome was recognized as the successor of St. Peter and universal pastor of the Church. Not entirely true. In 257 AD, the pope was Stephen. In a conflict against Cyprian (over baptism -- Cyprian believed baptism was efficacious only if performed by a pure-hearted priest, while Stephen claimed the ritual, not the priest, was what mattered.), Stephen appealed to Matthew 16 as the basis of his authority, claiming to sit in Peter's chair. Cyprian basically laughed at that claim and called the North African bishops to a council, where they decided that Stephen was fallible, and that he did not sit in Peter's chair. Not to be outdone, Stephen claimed that Cyrian was the antichrist, to which Cyprian excommunicated the Bishop of Rome (!). Kinda makes the Religion Forum on FR look tame.
Similarly, Iranaeus didn't care to submit to the pope, and the Council of Constance deposed a pope.
Just out of curiosity, do you as a Calvinist (if you are one) recognize Bishops?
I can't speak for Jean, but I, as a Calvinst Plymouth Brethren recognize elders-- autonomous to each local church, and plural to each church. I think Jean, as Dutch Reformed, would recognize Presbyters, but don't hold me to that.

The thread was not "denominationally" specific, it was topic specific.

"Jehovah's Witness doctrine of the non-Trinity is based on their purposely corrupted translations of the Bible" I would rephrase that: "The Jehovah's Witnesses' purposely currupted translation of the Bible is based on their doctrine of the non-Trinity".

Prior to my Dutch exam at WTS I prayed, "Lord, if you can construct a test I can pass, I'll be impressed!" He did, I was. I remember none of it. That's called education.

And I can't say that I would not post to a thread that purports to be Mormon Only. You know "technically"... I'm still a Mormon... ...Tee Hee.

Right. The Holy Spirit got the Scriptural truth to her,
in spite of the Witnesses' attempts. And then He pulled her out.

If you come to less than the triune God, then you've come to a different God. If this non-trinitarian may politely respond to a point ;o), this comment would seem to imply that Christians and Jews worship a different God. Is this what you meant to say? Or would you put Jews in a separate category?
And a comment about the article. I don't have the details readily at hand, but I've seen convincing evidence that at least some of the extant writings of the early church fathers are not authentic (either being psuedonymously written, or laced with interpolations). This makes it tricky to get an accurate view of the theological debates of the time.
If I were to aver a form of trinitarianism, I would choose some form of dynamic monarchianism.

There's your answer. (German speaking thread only. No english allowed). That way most will never know if they have been insulted. Just have to hope the moderators aren't bi-lingual lol No French though ok? i don't think that is going to work, remember the Germans aren't exactly in favour at the moment either. If Jimbo catches us speaking German, we might ALL get banned for good!

I invoked the "politeness clause" (see xzins' #4). And besides, I did have an invite (SD pinged me in #34, and also xzins' #351 on the "All Denominations" thread).
