I used to be very active on FreeRepublic, especially in 2003 during the Iraq War, and organized many rallies in support of the men and women who were being sent there (there are many posts archived on FR on these rallies that I helped organize).

However, when the lies of Iraq War finally dawned on me and when I realized that most Freepers are just blind-followers and cheerleaders for the neo-cons and their wars of naked aggression and occupation, I stopped posting.

However, today is a great day to see some here at FreeRepublic cheering on Ron Paul whom I believe to be the last hope for America. If he safely makes it to the White House, it will be a great great victory not only for the United States, but for the world.

****The commensurate increase in the Dollar price of Gold (now at nearly $800 per ounce) has left Dr. Ron Paul as one of the wealthier Congressmen in the House of Representatives.

Perversely, the only way that Dr. Paul would even need some ill-gotten “Retirement Fund” at this time is if he WINS... and his anti-inflationary policies, once enacted, restore the value of the Dollar and reduce the Dollar Price of his Gold investments.

But I think that Dr. Paul would be okay with that.****

Your post is so true. I spend a lot of time on an economics forum where the vast majority of people want the value of the dollar tied to gold, and believe in sound money.

I am about to get a significant amount of money, for me. If Ron Paul was not running, I would invest it in Euro’s or gold. However, I want Ron Paul to win and, as his chances get better, it makes those investments very risky.

Semper fi, Izzy. I too served in Iraq, back in 2004, and couldn’t agree with your sentiments more.

I like your tag line. It is almost the same as mine. Ron Paul will easily pass $4 M. today.

Thanks for dropping by this thread and posting. I think a lot of fiscal conservatives and libertarian small-government conservatives are responding to Ron Paul's message and getting active again in politics. It was exciting to see Dr. Braun get elected in to the House in Georgia, perhaps a sign that a message like Ron Paul's can be a winning one in 2008. This moneybomb indicates a broader movement with the means to promulgate a message. More people begin to see that there is more potential for Ron Paul to win the nomination than anyone had previously thought, perhaps even his own campaign.

Currently: $3.7M today, $6.8M for Q4.

If we hold in the $200K - $220K range as we have all evening, it should be $4.2M. And loose change.

Thanks, jmeagan.

Ron Paul has already surpassed $4 million today. He started out today at $2,773,017.02 and he is now (10:45 ET) at $6,812,356.40.

I am cheering him on to surpass $7 million total before tonight’s over.

Remember, remember the 5th of November.

Ron Paul won't win... but it's been a blast watching him make complete stuttering fools out of these nanny-state-loving, Socialist tyrants he's "debating".

Count me as one of them.

This thread has really changed the way I look at Ron Paul. I didn’t realize how unfair I and many other people here had been to the Congressman. I kind of assumed you all were pinkos and truthers, but Ron Paul himself certainly doesn’t deserve to be maligned so viciously and childishly.

Anyway, good luck with the effort guys.

Sorry, it will not happen. Sounds more like a Ron Paul SciFi novel.

Your tight, politicians are politicians ... but voters are voters. Politicians will never support smaller government and voters have short memories. Approximately 85% of the elected Federal Congress are politicians ... there are few who are Americans and believers in the American system of government.

Ron Paul doesn't have a snowballs chance in H..E..double hockey sticks of winning the Republican nomination. And this is where he has to be to win. The grassroots effort works better in State and Local elections ... at the Federal level grassroots has a hard time with third parties and they are always spoilers.

Peacetime may be a better time for Ron Paul and his belief of making a sustained run and a win. Not wartime. Too many people realize this is a war against terrorism ... not a game where you can pick up your marbles and just go home. I like Paul's belief in small government and getting out of the UN and abolishing the IRS, however his inability to see the threat posed to this country and the world by terrorism and fanatical believers of Islam nullifies any ability to achieve the other beliefs and goals at the present time.

I’m late to the party. Slammed at the office, and then my mother called to say her basement flooded, so I spent my evening at their place cleaning and dealing with insurance and the water restoration people.

But I got in in time to be “counted” for the day. It was heartening, after I saw the ping and remembered to give, to skim the thread and see so many old-time Freepers coming out in support. I don’t feel quite so afraid of admitting here that while I may have reservations or disagreements on certain issues, Dr. Paul is my favorite candidate in a long time.

Thank you for your service!

I agree with you that our national politics is too issue based. Even the word ‘compromise’ is lobbed around as if it is an act of cowardice. I don’t know if Ron Paul could reduce the political squabbling, but at least he won’t provoke it.

Thanks, that's very generous. We all support different candidates. But we should expect to close ranks as Republicans and support our nominee if at all possible. I do make exception at supporting a nominee who is diametrically opposed to so much of the GOP party platform. When we've stood for certain things, like the pro-life movement, for so long it is almost impossible to embrace a nominee who is pro-abortion.

Guy Fawkes is a hero for freedom. That you think that Guy Fawkes was a "terrorist" just shows how much of a big government statist you are.

If Ron Paul were even half as worthless as you say, you wouldn't spend your constant waking hours trying to defeat him with such vicious lies.

You're a good son and a strong supporter to make it a priority to donate. It's a shame the trolls work to ruin these threads (and some of them troll other candidate threads the same way) but their purpose is to intimidate people who might otherwise want to read or post on these threads. Of course, I understand why some people just don't have time to read through all this stuff they post; some people just don't have that much time to be online because they're too busy.

It's not about winning, it's about changing the nature of the debate. Thanks to Paul, Republicans will no longer talk about "tax credits, vouchers, or holding the line on spending." They're going to talk about abolishing entire obsolete bureaucracies, agencies, and at least reforming the tax code. And being more cautious on foreign policy and protecting our sovereignty.

I don't care if Paul wins because he has already won, in a sense. He has achieved his place in history, because has restored the old Taft-Goldwater-Reagan wing of the GOP. The GOP will have no choice but to court Paul, let him speak at the convention, get his endorsement, so whoever is the GOP nominee will have the coalition needed to beat Hillary. We need Paul and his supporters, this is what it's all about! 20 years from now future Republicans will embrace him just as Republicans are embracing Reagan's legacy now.
