Phone Company spying for the NSa

Posted on 08/11/2016 11:18:37 AM PDT by wny

I had my internet service upgraded today. The Frontier Communications tech was here to make some changes. After he was all set, while he was still here and his company truck still in my driveway, he asked my to connect to my network to see if all was well. I opened my iPad and as usual it listed a few local networks whose signal it was reading. It listed the usual few neighbors' networks that come up every time. It also listed:

"NSA mobile surveillance unit 981"

I've never seen this before, and since his truck left an hour ago, it hasn't come up,again. I took a photo, but I don't know how to post a photo...

If you REALLY want to freak out your neighborhood, name your WiFi “ISIS Cell #527”

One of my neighbors named his WiFi network “FBI Surveillance Van 815.” If NSA wanted to spy on someone, (a) that individual would most likely never know, and (b), if they were an American citizen, they would get one of their “partners” to do the work.

The phone cops are so 70s.

It was a great part of the plot in the WKRP episode with the bomb being at the transmitter.

In 2009 I was working in a branch office in a very liberal city. I took an old WiFi router and locked it down so that no one could connect to it (except Ethernet) and changed the SSID to something very derogatory regarding prezzy stompyfoot. Then I placed it in the window so that every business (including the city hall across the street) could “see” it.

It took two weeks before someone saw, complained, and our network boys started looking for it. The never found it.

It’s a joke. You can name your network anything that you want. Our apartment complex has ‘BrazziersHomeOffice’ ‘BrazziersIntern’ ‘PayForYourOwnInternetFreeloader’ and ‘PrettyFlyForAWIFI’.

Mine is “MAGA”.

I’m sure this is somebody’s idea of fun.
But don’t worry, just by being on FR you’re at the top of Hillary’s list for detention.

That would really screw with our paranoid lib neighbors.

I had a little old neighbor lady (she was nice enough) who had anti-frac and dem yard signs. I thought about changing to FracGaiatillSheBleeds but then I'd have to change 20 some-odd devices to that network name, and explain some things to my mother when she visits and signs in to my wifi.

The last thing the NSA would name their mobile scanning team’s routers would be anything like “NSA mobile surveillance unit 981”. You’d more likely see something like “Comcast Router #BCD789” or “Verizon Cellular Device 95639765” than that.

What you are seeing is some teenage kid’s warped sense of humor.

People do the same with the FBI.

Think, you could do it with the INS, IRS, BATF, etc., etc.

I’m thinking about doing the same thing, just for fun.

Or, as they told us, Never Say Anything.
