FBI found no evidence Israeli spies penetrated White House phones

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The FBI investigated an allegation that Israeli spies had penetrated the White House and other government telephone systems, but more than a year of extensive work found no evidence of any breach, two senior federal law enforcement officials said Friday.

The two officials, who requested anonymity, said the FBI had identified no one to arrest during its investigation. One said the investigation is now inactive.

``There was extensive investigation, and there are just no facts to support the allegation,'' one of the officials said. This official said the investigation had ''100 percent complete support from the Justice Department and every other government agency'' that would be needed to check such an allegation.

The probe is technically not closed, this official said. But it was described as being in the ``pending inactive state because the allegation is so serious and in case something develops.''

At the White House, a senior official said the White House had no indication that its phone system was compromised.

Two senior law enforcement officials huh. Eric Holder and Lee Radek?

However imagine the benefit to Rodham IF nothing can be proven and the GOP gives the cold shoulder to Israel. The New York Jewish community feeling the sting of accusations against the State of Israel moves solidly behind Rodham and if her husband and the US government is being blackmailed and having espionage committed against, it is 'only' being done by our 'ally'.

Would this penetration be the one in which Bill Clinton and Monica S(lut). Lewinsky were reportedly recorded having phone sex?

This whole "scandal" has me confused. I can't imagine why Israel would be spying on us anyway. We already give them everything we have -- our best planes, etc. They don't need to steal our secrets, like China does. And it's often reported that we rely on their spys to find out what's going on in the middle east. So the whole thing sounded weird to begin with. Now the FBI says it's not true, and some of the posters here are complaining about yet another coverup. I strongly suspect there was never anything to cover up in the first place.

From the rest of the article:

Mark Regec, a spokesman for the Israeli Embassy said, ``I don't listen even to the phone conversations of my wife.'' He called the allegation outrageous and said, ``Israel does not spy on the United States.''

A former civilian intelligence analyst for the U.S. Navy, Jonathan Pollard, was convicted during the 1980s of extensive spying for Israel. Israel has tried unsuccessfully since then to have him pardoned by the U.S. president.

Someone at the AP has a sense of humor.

Also of interest is that the AP saw fit not to credit Insight magazine. New media vs. old, I guess.

No I think you have the classic soviet style disinfo op. Send eveyone running down an empty Rabbit hole. While you are continuing to infiltrate thru the computers. ( Missing Laptops?) The FBI is so dumb they can't figure out when they are being had. The Criminal Clinton Admin probably sit around laughing at them.

Perhaps they'd do it out of love, on our behalf, to spare us a disaster like Clinton declaring WWIII to stay in office.

I feel better now that the FBI has looked into the matter. There excellent findings at Waco and the Nuclear labs makes feel safe now that no one has penetrated our communication networks. Let's see first nukes and now communications.....Hmmmmmm

" ... just no facts to support the allegations ..." Sigh. Since ya gotta parse everything nowadays, I take this to mean they haven't found hard incontrovertible evidence usable in a court of law or "court" of public opinion that would 100% convince the most skeptical juror. Left unsaid may be that they've found a ton of credible or circumstantial evidence.

Why would Israeli spies have to go to all the sweat and bother "penetrating" the WH when they attend every meeting.

"no evidence". typical clintonspeak. no evidence means the television cameras werent broadcasting the events in prime time when they got caught. as suggested above the "top law enforcement officials" are clearly tongues wagging outside the FBI, most likely from Janet Reno's "justice" department. Naturally the AP runs this crap for them without critical examination. Carvillesque immediate response, while they try to put together a better story. The "evidence" was already given in the insight report. The fbi found a list of top secret phone #'s in the suspects possession. To DOJ this is "no evidence" because they managed to squash, not quash, the fbi effort to search further. More of what we ve come to expect after seven yars of Clinton treachery and negligence.

Agreed. If we retake the White House in 2000, it will take anywhere from 50 to 70 years to repair the damage this traitorous BASTARD has done to our country. If Gore wins, America will last -- tops -- 20 years.

Actually, Israel has lots of reasons to spy on the country that hands them checks with six and seven zeros on them!

The more they know, the stronger they can "negotiate" their position.

Do you believe this may be a reason for pussy-footing around the subject now that it is about to be plastered across the front pages (albeit a few) newspapers in the days to come?

Seems to me that the "American Jews" will soon have no choice but to vote Republiacn to prove their loyalty to America. I am interested in how this will play out in the heavily Jewish controlled press and media...what about you what do you think? Obviously you have had the light show you the way....do you think that the newest revelations will finally prove once and for all that the Democrats really do have "bad vibes" with the Jews and may be a tad sympathetic to the Palestinians? Do you think we can once and for all show Israel that the Republicans are the way and the answer to their security?

Do you think that George Bush is smart enough to tackle this problem? Do you think he is dumb enough to bow to the enemies of Israel?

I find this interesting, am curious as to how this will ...

  1. play out in the press...
  2. get spinned by the White House
  3. get tied to the "missing" computers (THX Maggie Halfbrite!)

I've been surfing around the news sites. Neither CNN nor MSNBC have anything about this story. I clicked on the headline for the story on the Fox site, waited 5 minutes, and then gave up. Same thing with Insight. Somebody's reading this stuff, and they aren't posting the AP story.

You are so obviously right.

The best way to handle any information from this Whitehouse is to assume it is probably a lie, and then discover the ways they will benefit from the lie. Same with the Russians. Their praise for Ayn Rand was a hoot.

``There was extensive investigation, and there are just no facts to support the allegation,'' one of the officials said

< Parse-o-meter=on > Allegations by definition are never facts, that is why they are allegations. Strictly speaking there are never any facts to support an allegation because as soon as facts are found its not an allegation anymore. Therefore its always a true statement to say allegations are false or there are no facts to support the allegation. < parse-o-meter=off>

My take on it is that with the cozy deal between Barak and The Thing. Isreal will not be upset, they know it's all smoke and mirrors. The key is Isreal Gov silence.

Since the "credible" FBI says there is nothing to it, then the silence by the I Gov. indicates they knew it was BS to cover other ops by the Clinton Criminal cyndicate.
