Today on a gun discussion forum (talk.politics.guns) an anti-gunner tried to bolster the claim of "750,000" attendees at the MMM by claiming:
i was there....definitely more than 50,000.....once things got going, you couldnt even walk through the crowd...from one end of the mall to the other...it took me 2 hrs just to swarm my way through. My response was as follows:
With all due respect, I do believe you're lying. I've seen several dozen photos of the event, and in *NONE* of them do the crowds even *remotely* approach "one end of the mall to the other". Far from it.
Here's a screenshot from an ABC News video flyover of the MMM:
Note that the crowd stops at the uppermost white "tent", and green grass (unobscured by people) and a white sidewalk are clearly visible at the top of the picture. The stage for the MMM is at the lower part of the picture -- the photo shows the ENTIRE crowd, and it by no means extends from "one end of the mall to the other".
(Note that I had to freeze-frame the ABC video at just the right time -- they cut off the flyby moments after the empty grass behind the crowd came on screen. They were trying to give the impression that the crowd goes "on and on", rather than make it obvious that it starts and stops rather abruptly.)
For an idea what a *REAL* mall-filling crowd looks like, check out this:

This is an aerial photo of the "Promise Keepers" march, which official (not just rally-originated) estimates put at over one million, for real.
Note that the size of the MMM crowd is only a very small fraction of this -- the only way you could fit "750,000" people into an area the size that the MMM crowd fits into is if you buried them five deep underground.
Nice try.
Even the CNN site is honest enough to call it only
"tens of thousands".
EXCEPTIONAL POST! The Liberal Media is exposed again by....a FREEPER!
Nice job.
Here, I've taken the liberty of using landmarks from the MMM photo and superimposed them on the Promise-Keepers photo:

The green line marks the position of the sidewalk that appears in the upper portion of the MMM photo -- you can see the breaks in the trees where it enters and leaves the mall, and bits of it on the right and left sides.
The yellow outline therefore marks the area that the MMM crowd would have filled if viewed from the same angle as this Promise-Keepers aerial photo.
Note that the MMM photo and the PK photo are shot from opposite ends of the mall -- in the MMM photo, the Capitol building is just off the lower edge of the photo (and was clearly visible in the ABC news flyover video until it just barely fell off screen at the time I took my MMM screenshot).
Bump
I'd say your outline photo shows that there is no more than 200,000 max, and given the density factor that you would have for the larger crowd, I'll bet they're lucky if they got 100,000.
This post just gets better and better, GREAT work Dan Day!
2 + 2 = 4
You cold, insensitive b*stard! You'll be charged with a hate-crime for this.
if you buried them five deep underground
Dan, I hope your not implying anything here...???

Great Work!! I am afraid the 750,000 "magic number" will be another "big lie" repeated over and over until the sheeple accept it as gospel. Here in San Diego, the local news called our 300 TRT demonstrators "a handful of protestors", and they showed a clip of about a dozen of us way down the sidewalk. The media bias makes me SPIT NAILS!!!!!
FYI
Great one Dan, put it in my MMM/SAS/TRT - L.A. report.
I think what she meant to say was, "The crowd extened from one end of my imagination to the other."
That's two of us. I tried the same exercise a few hours ago and got pretty much the same result.
WHOO-HOO!!!
A big BUMP!!!
Thank you for posting this! BUMP!!
ABC caught lying again! Way to go Dan Day!
I am not an expert on estimating crowd sizes, but I did attend the Promise Keepers "Stand in the Gap" rally in Washington. The DC police were hesitant to give the 1,000,000 estimate then. Obviously they now use a "new" method of estimating crowd size. Probably has something to do with the "new" math or outcome based education. They poll those attending and taking a clue from the census questions ask their ages and IQ. They then added their ages and then the IQ, multiplied the results of one by the other and their you have it! A one million moron march.
You know ABC, got there orders from the administration to 'make it look BIG'. ABC, ALL ABOUT CLINTON, stays the course, right?
Somebody! send this stuff (w/ links to our discussion here) to the jokers at ABC, CNN, and elsewhere. Show THEM we are hep to their tricks. They may retract it if it makes the rounds enough on the Internet.
I know. I know. They are all liberals, hopelessly tools of Clinton and slanted in their view, but at least there must be some way to feedback (they always ask for viewer comments), and perhaps sending these comparative photos also to CSPAN and peppering them with on-air comments will also get the word out about what a LIE the national media propagates in their crowd estimates!

Thanks -- they must've had their special rose colored glasses on to count the crowd.
Travis, your crowd was a great bunch of Americans to be around, too -- with talk of individual responsibility & education instead of the "protect me" mentality of the MMisguidedM that doesn't make ANY of their children any safer today.
Put another way in keeping w/tone of this thread, from my scanning of events at MMM/SAS yesterday: # of mentions of personal responsibility/education at MMM --- 0
# of signs seen in crowd that mentioned personal responsibility/education ---- 0
# of times children at MMM were told to keep their HAND OFF GUNS, DUH!!! --- 0
I walked throw this crowd. The pictures don't lie.
And don't forget, that photo only shows about 75% of the Promise Keepers crowd. There were many more around the Washington monument and in the ellipse area near the White House.
Here's a bump.
That aerial shot does for the MMM what Paula Jones' testimony did for WJC's manhood: it puts things into proper perspective. Convex lenses - is there nothing they can't do?
Ed
Excellent job! Now if only Rush still had his TV show. Hey, why don't you send your photos to Bill O'Reilly or Britt Hume? That's the only chance you'd have of getting them on the air.
Another huge difference in the two pictures is the numbers of people who are standing amoung the trees off to the side of the mall. As I recall, the temps at the PK Rally were very high, so many men, those in my church included took to the shade under the trees. If you look carefully, you'll see that the crowd of people at the PK Rally in the treed area is as dense as it is in the center of the mall.
The MMM picture is not as clear, but it doesn't appear as if many people are lcoated in the groves.
Thanks again for your work. Again, I encourage you to send it to FOX.
Let's fix the font on a great thread!!!
I have not seen a single tv report on this event as of yet. I have heard nurmerous radio reports. This is the first video/photo items from the MMM i have seen. I knew when i heard 750,000 people it seemed kinda fishy. The original permit request by MMM was for 10,000. It was later revised upward to 100,000. 100,000 or a little more would not surprise me. But 750,000? Come on.
Maybe the MMM and their media allies have taken Louis Farakahn's "Million Man Math" course.
Good job.
I was driving past our State capitol building one evening, and saw a group of left-wing protesters, not more than two dozen in number, with the local tv station's camera crew on hand. When I got home I saw the "story" on tv: The camera shot was so close up that the group filled the screen, giving one the impression that a large crowd had turned out. My Dad says "I have never seen a news story of which I had personal knowledge that was wholly accurate." The same is true for me.
This AM on GMA, in the first half hour then again in the second half hour, Charles Gibson interviewed Donna Dees-Thomases. In both segments she claimed outright that 750,000 attended the MMM in Washington on Sunday. Charles Gibson made no effort whatsoever to question the numbers, although he claims to have attended, or reported, on several marches when he was based in Washington. It was abundantly clear by the crowd scenes they were no where near the numbers claimed ... and Gibson, better than most, would know.
The dead giveaway is the Washington Post website. If you go there, there are NO aerial shots, only closeups. Obviously, if there were a large crowd, the money shot (i.e. the crowd) would be on the front page.
From Salon.com:
"According to march organizers, 750,000 people attended the Mother's Day rally, although official estimates put the number at a vaguer "tens" or "hundreds" of thousands. The crowd was predominantly white and female..."
ROFLMAO!!! Has to be it!
Great post Dan.
OK, here's a question I have not heard asked...Who PAID FOR all this stuff at the MMM (milion moron-moms march)? It looks like there are HUGE tents and speaker columns... If it is true (as it looked to me) that there were fewer than 50,000 moron's (er..Moms) there they would have each had to cough up a ton o' cash to pay for all that equipment...once again WHO PAID FOR THIS???
re#4 nice job. someone should send this thread to the lamestream presstitutes, however, they don't really care and would not report the truth. at least they would know that we know they're liars.....
Right. The same people who helped them by pulling the plug on the FBI computer? Oops, I'm sorry, that was just a "glitch".
Maybe some of our beloved luminaries in Hollywood.
Truth Revealed, Not Concealed! Great Photo Comparison!!!
Bumping so others can see that you two have done an outstanding job debunking the lies regarding the size of the crowd.
Dan - simply awesome!!! Is there some way we can have this posted on the SAS website??? I think that would be a great thing. We also should forward this to GOA, keepandbeararms.org, NRA, Neal Knox, Ken Hamblin, Rush, JPFO, Fox News and MRC.
Nothing like a good cat fight to boost ratings, right?
Sorry ladies, but that kind of coverage is free and exposes the lies to anyone that sees the pictures...
Conservative Washington Times reports 500,000. So, I dont know.......
BTTT
It was good to meet you. BUMP
FYI BUMP!
I wonder how many of these "million" moms, marching to save our children from guns, would show up for a Roe vs. Wade anniversary event, dead-set on keeping the right to suck your baby into a sink? Just a thought.......
"I'll bet they're lucky if they got 100,000."
Over at Capital Hill Blues, Doug Thompson's rant got a figure from a park policman he knows. The guy said maybe 100,000; but certainly no more than that.
Here is a pretty good article from the National Post that exposes a lot of the lies about the MMM.
I'd say your outline photo shows that there is no more than 200,000 max, and given the density factor that you would have for the larger crowd, I'll bet they're lucky if they got 100,000.
Concur
I was there in the afternoon and guessed 100k to 200k. Connie (Clinton's A Liar) wrote in another thread some news media admitted it was only 150k).
bttt
Conservative Washington Times reports 500,000. So, I dont know.......
I don't think so
I was at PromiseKeepers
This event did not approach it in density or traffic.
Perhaps the missing 300 to 350k moms were shopping
but they weren't on the mall from 1:45 to 3:00 PM.
I say 100 to 200k.
WHO PAID FOR THIS???
The Bell campaign out of San Francisco.
Who, btw, advocates much stronger gun control laws than the "reasonable" acts, the MMM say they want.
They also are serving as the bagman for the MMM, since the Bell people are tax exempt. All donations to the MMM are funneled to the Bell Campaign.
Being there, I'd say it was 100,000 which included the number of tourists that were just there to visit DC and the museums.
Who paid for it?
The Washington Post told us who paid for it.
If yesterday was 500,000 then the October 4, 1997 'Stand in the Gap' Sacred Assembly was well over 2,000,000. Look at the pictures. Americans know the answer to evil is God in control, not gun control.
Put the 'Light' back in the schools, and darkness will disappear. "No weapon formed against Him shall prosper."

My wife and I were meeting friends for lunch (Dim Sum) in downtown DC on Sunday -- we had planned this without remembering the date, as we were just looking for a time before my wife's friends were moving away from town.
My impressions:

Excellent job, Dan! Are you from the Belleville area? This guy, Glenn McCoy, lives in Belleville and won a prestigeous award this year for his excellent political cartoons. He won out over many liberal artists. I recently bought his book - a must have! His cartoons keep the liberals in Belleville frothing at the mouth... hee hee.
From the Washington Post article "Many Moms' Voices Are Heard on Mall" this morning:
"Her challenge drew a massive wave of cheers from the chanting, swaying crowd of several hundred thousand, who packed the Mall from Fourth Street NW to beyond Ninth Street."
If you look at a detailed map of the Mall you can calculate that the area from Fourth Street to Ninth Street represents about one third of the Mall area - which extends from 1st Street to 15th Street. From the photos you will also see that a lot of the "march" area is taken up by tents. My conclusion is that the numbers were less than a quarter of those at the Promise Keepers event.
As for the "sponsors'" claim of 750,000, why should we be expecting the DemocRATs to stop lying now?
Who are you going to believe? Them or your lying eyes?
From what I have read and heard the whole thing was financed by liberal cause financier multi-millionaire George Soros
Hey folks I was lucky enough to be there. There is no way on God's green Earth that there was 750K million moms. I'd put the number closer to 100K with 150K max.
As for the SAS rally we had 2 or 3K.
Hope this helps.
They are lying about more than the size of the crowd. Their whole program is a lie.
Nice pic! LOL
from one end of the mall to the other
Maybe the reporter said, "from one end of them all to the other," and whoever transcribed it just misunderstood.
"Being there, I'd say it was 100,000 which included the number of tourists that were just there to visit DC and the museums."
Doctor Raul is a DC Vet, and if Doc says it's only 100,000, I'm going with that spin-free number for my statistics....
..Especially since it backs up my estimate based on Dan Day's great aerial photo comparison work!
The whole media is a lie about EVERY issue Texbob, not just this one!
Metro reported 250,000 riders in the system typical for the day is 150,000 i would say there were 200,000 moms in DC and nowhere near a million nation wide dZ
ICU, I was there too, we got there around 9:30 am and the Metro was full but not overloaded, we got on at the Vienna/Fairfax stop, the first one and the parking lot was nearly empty. I have never been able to park in the main parking area.
No way 750,000, I would say maybe 55,000 or less. When we got to the mall, we didn't see huge amounts of people and 750,000 ppl. would have surrounded us at the west end of the Monument. A friend of mine says they compare numbers to the 4th of July of 600,000 and that is end to end. We need to set the Times straight. What an outrageous lying sack of ****.
Larry Pratt, GOA Executive Director says, Gun Control is God's Judgement Upon a Nation
I can help.
I appreciate the time it took to post the photograph and answer the question. I walked up Constitution Ave. with a long-time DC resident who was sure the MMM had far less than 100,000 due to the available parking and other factors that he pointed out along the way. I am glad there weren't because many said hateful things as we passed by - - in front of their own children!
CNN's version of 'fair and balanced'(Nice picture, though)--
'A Mile Long'--now that's 16 blocks if my public school wasn't lying to me.
"The massive crowd, which gathered under clear sunny skies, stretched more than a mile along the Mall, from the Capitol to the Washington Monument.
The National Park Service, stung by past disputes over its crowd estimates during other mass rallies in Washington, declined to give an estimate as to how many men had gathered. The Promise Keepers organization also declined to estimate how many men attended."
God knows.
"My Dad says "I have never seen a news story of which I had personal knowledge that was wholly accurate." The same is true for me."
Same here--they ALWAYS miss some really key point.
The whole thing was a bust; besides being an American Farce. No bigger farce, though, than Rosie O'Donnell and her kindred hogs.
Great post and excellent work!
It matters not about the size if the crowd. What matters is the reaction of our representatives and senators in congress. My guess is that they will pass some form of gun bill before the the election. These republican bastards are only concerned about keeping their seats in congress.
Throw all of their worthless asses out now.
